Chapter 105 Goodbye Sarah
Chapter 105 Goodbye Sarah
Soraya
When I opened my eyes again, I was in Evander’s office. There was no noise, no screeching in my head—nothing. And I felt peace. It felt like I could finally breathe again.
What the hell was that? I wondered. I actually thought I was dying.
That was when I looked at the ground and found my body on the floor.
Oh my God. No. No, this couldn’t be happening.
I was dead.
I looked at my body, and I actually wasn’t moving.
That was when the door opened, and Evander walked in. Immediately, he saw me on the ground. He fell to his knees. Milo was behind him.
“Soraya,” he said my name as he pulled me up from the ground and into his arms. “Soraya…”
He placed his head on my chest, but he didn’t say anything.
“No,” Evander said as tears began dropping from his eyes uncontrollably.
“What did you say happen?” he asked Milo.
“She just came in here screaming that there were bees everywhere,” Milo said, panicked. “And I could see how terrified she was. What’s wrong with her?”
“She’s dead,” Evander said without taking his eyes off me.
No.
Milo walked to where I was. “No. She can’t be dead.”
I watched as Evander took the blindfold off my eyes, and he held me close to his chest.
“I should have been here,” he cried, still on his knees, me in his arms. “Soraya, please…”
He whispered into my ear, “Wake up, please.”
“Evander,” I called his name, but he couldn’t hear me or even see me.
What the hell was happening?
He carried me up quickly, rushing me out of his office. I followed behind him, and so did Milo.
Evander held me tight as he ran to the infirmary. He placed me on the bed.
“Doctor!” he yelled. “I need all the doctors!”
He kept calling my name. He kept trying to give me CPR, trying to revive me.
The doctors came, and after a couple of minutes, they turned to him.
“I’m sorry… she’s gone.”
“Evander…” I yelled his name from where I stood, but he couldn’t see me.
No. No, this wasn’t happening.
Please. This wasn’t happening.
I stood close to my lifeless body and just stared at myself.
Everything happened so fast. It was the noise in my head, and my soul felt like it was being pulled out of my body.
No. No. I wasn’t ready. I wasn’t ready to go.
“You’re not dead.”
A voice came from behind me, startling the hell out of me.
When I turned around, I found Sarah.
She stood a few steps away, looking ravishing. She looked so beautiful—an insane kind of beauty, unreal.
“Sarah,” I said, her name barely a whisper.
“Hi, Soraya,” she waved.
She was still in her school uniform. Her hair was in pigtails. She looked exactly like she did the day she died.
I pulled her into a hug, holding her tightly.
“What’s going on?” I asked. “Why am I dead?”
She smiled.
“You’re not dead. I just pulled you out of your body. I needed to talk to you, and that was the only way.”
“What?” I said, frowning.
“The bees… that was me. I’m sorry. I know I shouldn’t have done it, but—”
“It’s fine.”
I didn’t want to look at Evander, who was broken on the floor, screaming.
“Maybe we should get out of here,” Sarah said.
I shook my head. “No. What about Evander?”
“You’ll be back in your body in a couple of minutes.”
“But he thinks I’m dead.”
She nodded. “Everybody thinks you’re dead. Once your soul is pulled out of your body, you are partially dead.”
“What?”
She nodded again. “I am so sorry. I really am sorry. I never should have done it, but it was the only way.”
“How have you been?” she asked.
“Not fine,” I replied.
She lifted a brow. “Why are you not fine? I mean, look at me.”
I pointed to my body on the bed. “I am dead. I cannot be fine.”
She laughed. “I have missed you so much.”
“Sarah, how are you here?” I asked.
“I’ve always been here, Soraya.”
“What?” My voice cracked.
“My soul never crossed over.”
“Oh my God. Why?”
“When I died, my soul remained here,” she said softly, “and I’ve been seeing everything that has been happening. Well… not everything. My soul was restricted to one place in the school, and I had been trying to access every other place.”
I stared at her, frozen.
“I had been trying to talk to you… to Evander… to the staff. But nobody could see me or hear me.”
She looked down briefly.
“It took me so long to actually leave the infirmary where my body was first brought. I have been here, trapped in this… school.”
“Oh my God,” I whispered. “I had no idea this was happening to you.”
“I didn’t know,” I said in a low voice.
“Of course you didn’t.” She smiled at me.
Even in death, Sarah was still as cheerful as she was when she was alive.
“Walk with me,” she said.
And we began walking around the school.
“Your burial is coming up,” I said quietly.
She nodded.
“If you get buried… will you be able to cross over?”
She nodded again with a bright smile. “And I would be able to see the Moon Goddess.”
“Well… that’s if I don’t go to hell.”
“Why would you say that?” I frowned. “You are too kind to go to hell.”
She smiled. “You know, you have to stop beating yourself up, right? You’re not responsible for my death.”
“How did you know?”
“Because I was trapped in the infirmary doesn’t mean I couldn’t hear what was going on. If I paid attention… I could hear how everybody condemned you, blaming you for my death.”
Her voice softened.
“And you have to stop blaming yourself. Because you are not responsible.”
“But did you see who did it?” I asked quickly.
She shook her head. “I didn’t. But I have a clue.”
“Really?”
She nodded. “That was why I had to contact you. Soraya… whoever killed me is still in this school. And the person is still roaming.”
My stomach dropped.
“Well… it’s kind of more of a spirit, not a person.”
“What?”
“The spirit is possessing somebody."
"So the person is innocent.” I said but she shook her head again, more serious now.
“No. You have to find it… and you have to kill it, or it will kill again.”
“And how do you expect me to do that?”
“You are strong, Soraya, stronger than you think. If you don’t want what happened to me and Cole to happen to anyone else, and you don’t want to be blamed, you have to find the spirit and its host, and you have to kill them.”
“What if the host is—”
“I know what you’re thinking. The host is never innocent in situations like this.”
“Have you seen Cole?”
“I think he crossed over immediately he died. Some souls don’t get trapped.”
“But why are you trapped then?”
“Because my business wasn’t finished here, and I need to tell you the only clue I have of the spirit. It’s called a rabbit wolf. It has the face of a rabbit and the body of a monster.”
I couldn’t speak. It was exactly what the professor was talking about today in class.
“You have to go now,” Sarah said quickly. “If not, you would be here permanently.”
“Thank you,” I said, taking her hand in mine. She smiled at me.
“I’ll miss you so much. But maybe one day we’ll meet again.”
I hugged her, and when she pulled back, she hit me so violently on the chest I felt my soul literally retracting into my body.
