Visit my father in prison

Today would be the first day I would visit my father in prison.

It’s not something I anxiously expected, but I felt like it was an obligation I’ve been carrying with me since he was arrested, even if he didn’t even deserve it. John, my father, is not exactly the model of parenthood that anyone would want. In fact, he is anything but. For as long as I can remember, he was involved in illegal activities, and his last arrest was the result of his involvement with the black market for banned substances.

Going to see him brings me bad feelings. I still remember the feeling of despair and anger when he took my son from me, just weeks before he was born. It was a betrayal that I will never forgive and the only way to try to get my son back was by setting up his prison. When I get to the prison, I go through the family security process. The sound of the gates locking behind me sends a shiver down my spine, but I keep my composure. I wasn’t there for him, John didn’t deserve anything from me, not after all he did to me, and I’m only here for my son. Finally, I reached the drawing room, watching my father sitting on a metal table, surrounded by other inmates and their visitors. Your eyes light up when you see me, but not like before, when I was little. His Appearance now was a mixture of evil and arrogance. I kept my posture and even returned his damn smile.

He knows why I’m here, he feels it, and he’s going to try to hurt me somehow. At first, I said nothing to him. John began to talk alone about trivial matters. Avoiding any other kind of conversation with me, trying to keep my focus. When I turned my face, looking anywhere but him, I felt his cold touch on my hand, leaving me in shock. He tries to apologize, saying he did what he did because of the circumstances, but his words fall on deaf ears. I wasn’t interested in his excuses, all I wanted most was my son back in my arms and nothing more.

"So, Julie, when you finally decide to visit me, you still feel entitled to keep your mouth shut and not talk to me, huh?" he says with a cynical smile.

"Make no mistake, John. I’m only here because I have to be," I replied coldly.

"Oh, don’t be so hard on your old dad. I just wanted the best for you. You know that, right? And that crazy plan of yours to turn me in to the police. Don’t look at me like that because I know you have your finger in it," he said as he realized that it had moved me. I took a deep breath and tried to throw away all the feeling he caused me feelings. "You’ll never forgive me for it, Isn’t that right?" he said, his sarcastic tone cutting the air.

"Forgive? I don’t expect to forgive you, John. You took my son from me, remember? You do not deserve my forgiveness, you ended up with the best part of me, "I say firmly, struggling to contain the anger that is bubbling inside me, and the tears that insist on wanting to descend just at that moment.

"Oh, go ahead, Julie. Keep pretending you’re a perfect mother, who fought for her dear son. But we all know the truth, because you’re no better than I am," he rolls his eyes and shrugs "Ever since he got back to his charming little prince, he barely thinks about his son, he just wanted to miss that punk out that Drew doesn’t even know who you are!" I feel as if he has slapped me in the face, and a knot forms in my throat causing a tear to flee and quickly dry from my face, I take a deep breath and lift my face in his direction, refusing to let him see me weaken.

"I’m not perfect, far from it. But one thing I know, John. I would never do to my son what you did to me, or anyone else," I approached him "Just like you did to my mother and Ellen, remember her?" John’s face contorted in a way. Which I felt hit him in his wound "Know that I will have Drew with me, whatever it takes, and this is just the beginning, Dad." I get up without saying anything else, for there was nothing more to be said between us. He had his chance as a father, and he wasted it without even caring.

As soon as I left that place, I felt a mixture of relief and anxiety. Prison seems less oppressive when one is outside its walls, but the weight of the memories of what I talked to my father, continued to torment me. My steps were quick as I walked through the parking lot, eager to get out of this place and back into real life. As I approached my car, I saw Jordan waiting for me that strange scene, because I remember very well he had stayed at home when he left. His face is tense, but his eyes shine with a hope that I have not seen for a long time. He approaches quickly when he sees me, and I notice him holding something in his hands.

"Julie, you need to hear this," he says, extending me a folded piece of paper my "We got a clue about Drew." My heart jumps in the chest as I take the paper and my unfolded. The words before me are hard to believe. A witness had gone to Ryan’s house with information about a boy that matched Drew’s description. That was suspicious, but Jordan said he and his friend investigated and everything pointed to being true information.

"That’s amazing," I whispered, the tears rising in my eyes. "That means..." Jordan takes my hand and looks into my eyes.

"It means we’re closer than ever to finding our son, Julie. But it also means we need to be cautious. We cannot risk acting impulsively and losing everything." I signed, understanding his words.

"So what do we do now?" I asked him anxiously.

"We will continue to investigate, gathering all the necessary information we can. We need to be one hundred percent sure it’s Drew before we act. And when we decide to act, we’ll make sure we have everything planned to keep us and him safe." explains Jordan, his determination evident in every word.

"So let’s do this, let’s find our son and bring him home, where he belongs." I took a deep breath, trying to contain the avalanche of emotions that threatened to consume me. With a determined smile, Jordan agrees.

Together, we drove to the car ready to face what was waiting for us outside. And as always, it wouldn’t be easy, but it would be a journey we’re willing to take, no matter what. Because in the end, our family would be reunited again, and nothing else mattered, nothing more.
