Chapter 279

Chapter 279

As soon as Isabella and Matthew got home, Isabella received a call from Bianca.

"Isabella, Citrus has a fever and her temperature just won't come down."

Bianca's voice on the other end sounded panicked.

Isabella's face changed. Just as she was about to say something, Matthew took the phone from her.

"Where are you?"

"At home. The nanny had an emergency and took leave, then Citrus suddenly got a fever."

"She keeps crying."

Bianca's voice choked up.

Matthew said calmly, "let's meet at the hospital."

"I'll send a driver to pick you up. Don't panic, the child will be fine."

Then Matthew immediately made another call.

Isabella gripped Matthew's hand tightly, "won't that take too long?"

"Little kids are so fragile."

"Don't worry." Matthew put his arm around Isabella's waist. "I'm having someone who lives near Bianca pick her up. That'll be faster."

"If she drives herself, it'll be more dangerous."

Hearing Matthew say this, Isabella thought it made sense, but she started blaming Joshua in her heart.

"Where's Joshua?"

"Something happened at home and he's still not back?"

Matthew had also forgotten about Joshua lately. Seeing Isabella getting angry, he quickly called Joshua.

When the call connected, a young woman answered.

Matthew immediately looked at Isabella.

Isabella's face changed. She grabbed the phone and said coldly, "where's Joshua?"

"Where is he?"

The young woman laughed lightly, "Joshua's taking a shower."

Hearing this, Isabella hung up right away.

She glared at Matthew fiercely, "this is your friend?"

"Scumbag."

Matthew tried to calm Isabella down, "there might be a misunderstanding here."

"He's your friend, of course you're taking his side." Isabella punched Matthew's arm twice hard before feeling a bit better.

"Citrus won't have a father anymore."

Matthew quickly agreed.

"Come on, let's go to the hospital now."

Only then did Isabella calm down. Right now, Citrus was the most important thing.

When they got to the hospital, Citrus was getting a needle in her forehead. She was crying so hard her little face was bright red, which broke Isabella's heart.

Matthew quickly patted Isabella's back.

At this moment, Isabella couldn't even find words to comfort Bianca. That was her own child—watching your child suffer like that, not everyone could understand that kind of pain.

Fortunately, the nurse was experienced and managed to get the needle in, but with the foreign object on her body, Citrus kept turning her head.

Bianca held Citrus and comforted her for a while before the child calmed down a bit.

During the IV drip, Citrus couldn't sleep quietly and needed someone to hold her and walk around.

At one point, Matthew wanted to help hold her, but Citrus started crying right away. Clearly at a time like this, she only wanted certain people.

Seeing the child like this, Bianca started crying.

Watching her cry, Isabella's tears started flowing too.

Matthew looked at the two crying women and sighed inwardly. He said gently, "the doctor said the child's condition is relatively mild."

"If the temperature comes down, she can be discharged tomorrow."

But his words had no effect. Isabella and Bianca kept crying.

Finally, Matthew gave up and stopped talking.

After Isabella calmed down, she looked at Bianca and wanted to mention Joshua, but in the end she swallowed her words.

"Let me try."

Bianca had been walking around holding Citrus for two hours now. Her arms must be exhausted. She and Bianca were sisters, so their scent would be similar.

Bianca shook her head, "Isabella, you're pregnant too. You can't overdo it."

"Now that we know what's wrong with the child, you and Matthew should go home."

Isabella frowned, "Bianca, are you confused?"

"You're telling me to go home?"

"Are you trying to make sure I can't sleep?"

Bianca looked at Isabella with red eyes, her nose starting to sting again. In this world, only Isabella was truly good to her.

"Isabella."

Isabella heard the grievance in Bianca's voice, took a deep breath, and comforted her, "stop crying."

"If you wake up Citrus, that'll be trouble."

Bianca looked down at Citrus and sniffled.

Since it was a private room, Matthew wasn't worried about Isabella getting infected, so he let her stay.

More importantly, as Isabella herself said, if she went home, she'd probably feel even worse. Better to let her stay at the hospital.

After the IV was done, Citrus fell into a deep sleep, and Bianca's hands were finally free.

Isabella quickly massaged her arms, "looks like Citrus's temperature has come down."

She looked at Matthew, "go get the doctor to check."

Matthew obediently went out.

Once he left, Bianca hugged Isabella. "Isabella, I'm terrible at picking men."

Hearing this, Isabella's heart jumped. She had a feeling Bianca knew something.

She said gently, "what about Joshua?"

"He's still not back?"

Isabella clearly felt Bianca's grip tighten around her. Isabella knew there must be a problem between them.

She cursed Joshua in her heart, "tell me, did he do something to betray you?"

Bianca let go of Isabella and said mockingly, "he said he needed to go abroad to handle some family matters, but a few days ago his first love sent me lots of photos of them traveling abroad together."

"Isabella, you know what?"

"When I saw those photos, I felt like such an idiot."

"I thought I'd finally found the right person, but he turned out to be just as bad. Playing with my feelings."

Hearing this, Isabella was furious too, "did you talk to Joshua about it?"

"Isabella, does something like this need discussion?" Bianca said through gritted teeth. "He already lied to me."

"If I ask him, the answers will just be the same old excuses."

Hearing her say this, Isabella also told her about the phone call today.

Bianca was so angry her hands were shaking, "scumbag."

"Citrus won't have a father anymore."

Standing at the door, Matthew thought to himself—they really are sisters, saying the exact same thing.

He said gently, "the doctor's here."

Only then did Bianca and Isabella stop talking.

The doctor took Citrus's temperature and said gently, "it's come down for now."

"But children are different from adults. Adults can tell you where it hurts, but children can only cry, so you need to be extra careful when taking care of her."

"If the child shows any unusual signs, you must call us."

Bianca nodded quickly, "okay."

"Thank you, doctor."

The doctor smiled, "no trouble at all."

Actually, the hospital had nurses who could watch over patients, and there was one outside now, but Bianca wasn't comfortable leaving the child with a stranger.

After the doctor left, Isabella leaned against Matthew and fell asleep.

The nurse came in too, but Bianca, like the nurse, didn't sleep.

Matthew looked at Bianca and said quietly, "Joshua isn't that kind of person."

"You two should call and talk it through."

At the mention of Joshua, Bianca's face immediately darkened. She stared at Matthew, "Matthew, don't bring him up, or I'll curse you out too."
