Chapter 272
Chapter 272
"You and your father should know better than I do what happened to me overseas."
"If you're asking why I came back, it's simply karma—what goes around comes around."
Matthew was already giving Chase plenty of face by saying this much.
Chase still stared hard at Matthew. How could he have come back just fine?
His mind raced, and fear grew in his heart.
Chase moved closer to Matthew, "that's not true."
"I didn't hurt you."
"Matthew, when you weren't at the company, if I didn't take over, others would have wanted our company too."
He quickly added, "like recently, that Ash guy at the company—who knew he was that kind of person?"
But Matthew didn't want to hear Chase's nonsense. He said flatly, "tell it to the police."
"Matthew, you can't do this to me."
"My parents are already locked up. If I get locked up too, Grandpa definitely won't be able to handle it!"
Chase tried to use Hayden to threaten Matthew.
Matthew just sneered, "you don't know yet, do you?"
"All that evidence against your parents came from Grandpa."
"Impossible!"
Chase refused to believe it. If that were true, then his whole family would be completely done for. It shouldn't be like this.
Their family never lacked food or clothing. Even the worst outcome shouldn't be like this.
"You're lying to us."
"I want to see Grandpa!"
Watching the frantic Chase, Matthew found it laughable, "Chase, what makes you think Grandpa would like you more?"
"When you were persecuting my family, did you consider Grandpa's feelings?"
"You did all this. If you'd been a bit slower, Grandpa might have let you run the company, but you were too hasty, too carried away!"
Chase still refused to believe it, but even so, he was taken away.
Matthew immediately called a meeting. Seeing so many unfamiliar faces at the meeting, he had Riley contact the previous employees right away.
Fortunately, the compensation Isabella provided was generous enough. Many of the fired employees were still waiting and watching, and when Riley contacted them, they were willing to come back.
Matthew had originally wanted to go home early to be with Isabella, but Chase had created so many problems that he needed to handle them personally.
He stayed busy until evening. When he got home, Isabella wasn't in the bedroom, and Matthew frowned.
Thinking that Bianca was also at home, he figured they must be sleeping together. Matthew immediately frowned and called Joshua.
"What?"
"Alone?"
Matthew asked back.
Joshua rubbed his eyes and laughed, "I'm not married, of course I'm alone."
"Come pick up your wife and kid tomorrow."
Matthew said coolly.
Joshua quickly caught on and laughed on the other end, "Matthew, you really use people and throw them away."
"When you weren't here, Bianca and Citrus stayed by Isabella's side the whole time. Now that you're done using them, you want to kick Bianca and them out. You really have no conscience."
"Think about your unmarried status," Matthew said lightly.
Joshua went silent on the other end, "you're really mean."
"I'll come pick them up tomorrow."
Getting the answer he wanted, Matthew felt a bit better, but lying in bed alone, he felt empty inside.
Forget it, he couldn't scare Isabella.
Isabella slept until she woke naturally.
"Isabella, Citrus has already cried once, but you still managed to sleep. Looks like you're really at ease now."
Bianca said with a smile, holding Citrus.
Isabella's lips curved up too. She really hadn't thought about this.
"Is Citrus asleep?"
"She's awake." Bianca looked down at Citrus with a smile, "look."
After playing with the baby for a while, Isabella went to wash up.
When she came downstairs, she was very surprised to see Matthew at home too.
Seeing Isabella come down, Matthew was happy. He got up to take Isabella's hand.
Isabella didn't pull away, but asked curiously, "why haven't you gone to the company yet?"
"I heard from Mom earlier that the Moore Group was really messed up by Liam's family."
"No rush."
Matthew said gently, "Riley's still there."
Thinking of Riley, Isabella smiled too, "speaking of which, Riley has been through life and death with you."
Matthew also smiled, "as long as he does good work, I'll never shortchange him."
"I'm almost done eating. What do you want? I'll make it for you."
But Isabella looked at Bianca, "you help Bianca hold Citrus for a bit."
Matthew looked at the baby in Bianca's arms, then looked back at Isabella.
Isabella smiled, "you're not in a hurry to go to work anyway, so hold the baby for a while."
"Don't forget, your two babies will be coming out soon. Practice a bit first."
But Bianca seemed uneasy about letting Matthew hold her, "Isabella, I'm not sure about this."
Isabella stared at Matthew, "did you hear that? Bianca's not sure."
Matthew felt a bit helpless, but didn't refuse. Instead, he looked seriously at Bianca, "don't worry, I'll hold her carefully."
Bianca finally handed the baby to Matthew.
Matthew carefully held Citrus. Meeting the baby's big eyes, his expression softened.
Citrus even smiled at Matthew.
Watching from the side, Bianca found it strange. She said slowly, "even when her dad holds her, Citrus throws a fit."
"I didn't expect her to smile when Matthew holds her."
Looking at the smiling Citrus, Isabella was in a good mood, "since Citrus likes being held by Matthew, let him hold her more."
"Consider it practice."
Seeing that Citrus wasn't crying, Bianca had no objections.
Matthew also thought Citrus was quite cute and didn't cry much, so he was happy to hold her.
Thinking about having two babies of his own, he felt the pressure mounting.
When Joshua came, Matthew finally went to work.
At lunch, Hayden asked about Isla at the dinner table.
Ava looked at Hayden and said slowly, "Dad, we're not really sure how Isla is doing."
"She's probably recovering at the Morris family."
Isabella's eyes flickered. Was Isla really recovering at the Morris family?
Come to think of it, with Liam's whole family in prison, all their assets would eventually go to the baby in Isla's belly.
Isla had won!
"When Matthew gets back, have him go with me to the Morris family."
Hayden said slowly.
Ava nodded slowly, "Dad, what if Isla doesn't have the baby?"
Hayden sighed, "whether she has it or not is her freedom. I'll just ask. If she has it but doesn't want to raise it, I'll give her some money. We'll keep the child, and I'll have someone help raise it."
