Chapter 267
Chapter 267
Chase had temporarily cleared Isabella of suspicion and sent people to investigate the whole matter.
The investigation revealed that the person who was hit was an old man, and he was seriously ill.
People around the old man said their family was harmonious.
But careful investigation still uncovered some clues—the company where the old man's son worked had shares owned by Ash!
But aside from this one point, nothing else could be found.
Chase wasn't stupid either. He immediately went to find Liam and learned from their conversation that on that day, Liam had driven himself and went out with Ash and the others—none of them had brought drivers along.
"Dad, you've been set up."
Liam's face also looked terrible.
"I know. He's trying to get leverage over us."
Father and son locked eyes, and finally compromised.
When Cleo saw the two return together, she asked nervously, "Is everything okay? Was it Isabella and her people?"
"Mom, it wasn't." Chase was still thinking about being schemed by Ash, and his mood was really awful right now.
Liam also said in a heavy voice, "Just be quiet."
Cleo was hurt by their attitudes, "What do you mean? Who am I doing this for? Isn't it all for you guys?"
"Shut up!"
Liam said coldly, "Are you afraid people don't know about me hitting someone to death? Chase, explain the details to your mother."
Chase patiently explained Ash's scheme.
Cleo's eyes widened, "How dare he? He's just a regional manager under our Moore Group. How can he?"
Chase leaned back on the sofa and let out a heavy breath, "Why can't he? The fact that I got out so quickly shows he definitely has other connections behind him."
Cleo opened her mouth, looked at both of them, and finally sat down with a frown.
"Won't you father and son be very passive from now on?"
Neither Chase nor Liam spoke.
Upstairs, Isla clenched her hands tightly.
Worried that Cleo might not think clearly and spill everything, Liam could only make things sound more serious.
"That Ash is laundering some things. If it's really discovered, we'll all die."
Cleo's heartbeat quickened. She quickly covered her chest, staring at Liam and Chase with complete confusion.
"I know how serious this is, but if you know too, how did you let him scheme against you? According to what you're saying, when Matthew was still around, this Ash might have already been doing shady things. How come Matthew didn't get implicated?"
She really thought Liam and Chase were somewhat useless.
Both Liam and Chase's faces darkened at Cleo's words.
Cleo was scared by their looks and took a deep breath, "Fine. Let's just think about what to do next."
Isla had already returned to the bedroom. She sat leaning against the bed, brows furrowed. Once involved with the kind of thing the Liam family was talking about, the Morris family might also be implicated.
She touched her belly. Nothing was developing as she had expected.
Was this life worth gambling on?
She and Chase weren't officially married yet, and she truly didn't know about the things they had done.
She couldn't let the Morris family get dragged into this, or she'd lose her last support.
After making up her mind, Isla got up directly.
"Isla, you're awake?"
Chase had just opened the door and saw Isla getting up from the bed.
Their eyes met. Isla's emotions were complicated, but she didn't show it.
"Yes, I want to go out for a walk. Why did you come back so early today?"
Chase sighed, "Ran into some trouble."
He put his arm around Isla's waist and said gently, "Do you want to know about it?"
Isla lowered her eyes and smiled faintly, "No. I'm still pregnant, and my emotions aren't as stable as before. You don't want your child to be emotionally unstable after birth, do you?"
Chase looked at Isla's visible baby bump, and his smile looked much more genuine.
"True. Let me listen."
He then hugged Isla and pressed his ear against her belly.
Isla stared at Chase smiling so tenderly and was momentarily dazed, but she quickly collected herself.
"It's only been a few months, still early."
After chatting for a bit, Isla said gently, "I stayed at home for a while, and since coming back, my sleep quality hasn't been good. Tomorrow I want to go home and stay for a while."
Chase frowned.
Isla held his arm and said softly, "You've been so busy lately. I don't want to badmouth Mom, but ever since you took over the Moore Group, she's been unhappy with me no matter what. I think instead of constantly fighting while pregnant, I should go back first. When the baby is born, I'll come back. I think by then, when Mom sees the baby, she might soften."
Hearing the first part, Chase was indeed unhappy, but seeing Isla being so thoughtful and putting herself in such a humble position made him feel some pity.
"That's just how my mom is. But you're right. My mom's temper has been off lately. For you and the baby, I'll take you back to the Morris family tomorrow."
Seeing Chase agree, Isla smiled and rested her head on his shoulder, "Honey, you're so good to me."
Chase contentedly held Isla's waist.
He and Liam had also planned that since Ash had schemed against them like this, they would take this opportunity to completely control the Moore Group and make Ash's side contribute as well.
If he was busy with company matters, he really couldn't look after Isla.
Chase looked down at Isla's belly again, feeling very pleased. His child would be better than Matthew's child from birth!
The Moore Group underwent a series of reforms, especially the things Matthew had previously proposed—Liam and his son would try every way to change them.
Ava was aware of the Moore Group's big moves and was very angry, "They're completely trying to destroy the Moore Group. Dad, are you really not going to do something?"
Isabella also looked at Hayden.
Hayden was very calm. He ate his meal and said peacefully, "I know."
With that, everyone at the table fell silent.
Bianca and Isabella exchanged glances, then lowered their heads to eat.
Ava was a bit agitated. She could sense that Hayden was also very angry today, so she didn't press further.
Soon Jett handed two document folders to Ava.
Ava looked at Hayden, "Dad, what's this?"
"Open it and you'll see." Hayden put down his knife and fork, took a sip of water, and said quietly, "What goes up must come down. Liam has gone mad."
