Chapter 173 The Biggest Ingredient
Chapter 173 The Biggest Ingredient

So, while it was good to talk to a doctor who knew what he was talking about, and understanding a bit more about what was and wasn’t possible was good, I had felt in the long run that we didn’t have any more answers than we’d had before, basically. We still needed to raid his lab and figure out what the fuck he was doing and how to stop him.
“You know, he thinks of himself as some brilliant scientist. The truth is, however, that he’s not. He might be smart, and he could even be brilliant in some things, but this kind of science isn’t one of them.” I looked over at Hedi and the others who’d come to our house from the guest house after our talk with the geneticist.
“You had mentioned that the way it worked for Andilonians and Ilonians to breed was that they had to be mates. This caused a chemical reaction that made them compatible with each other. If they are not mates, then it won’t work. Dekon had an Andalonian who was helping him, Torin, who was a psychotic bastard. He was trying to breed me with him or whatever, or even himself; who the fuck knows. Anyway, my point is that he was furious that it wasn’t working. He thought that Andilonian should have been compatible with me, and only when he injected his blood directly into my veins did he expect something negative to happen. So, he was clueless about how it really works; that's my point, I guess.”
“Yeah, it’s amazing what a mate bond can cause to happen. Without that, though, there are a lot of pairings that will fail. So, if he is trying to combine non-mates, he will not be able to force it to work. Men like him would never account for a mate bond. No doubt, to him, he thinks that is some stupid weakness rather than the strongest thing there is.” I nodded at Selenia’s assessment.
I could feel my mates’ distress. No doubt me speaking about what that Andilonian and Dekon did to me had upset them. I understood this, and I fucking hated thinking about it. The problem with that was we needed some of that information in order to catch him and finish all of this bullshit. So, that meant I needed to fucking suck it up and try to get all of this to work.
Suddenly Joshia says something, “Wait, did you say Torin? You met an Andilonian named Torin?”
I nodded. “Yes, he was nuts, and he was a cruel, evil bastard who liked to hurt me and other women. It was his blood Dekon used to subdue my Ilonian and me.”
Several of them looked at each other. “Okay, we knew him. He was kicked out of the family of the leaders of the Andilonians. They have members on the council, but they also act like your leader, and Alpha does with the Andilonian people. They forced him to leave because of that very tendency. So, I’m honestly not surprised he found another person who was as sick and twisted as he was. Did he get away?”
I shook my head. “When the Ilonians came to ‘rescue’ me, they stabbed him with an iron blade and ended up killing him.” They all nodded.
“Sometime, we should let the family know. We don’t really have anything to do with them; they are not really open to us hybrids, but they should still be notified. I’m not sure they’ll care, but whatever.” I nodded.
“You know, we had originally been told that the Ilonians had been wiped out completely. Then we had been told that the Andilonians were the ones who wiped them out, and they were all just evil bastards. Now, honestly, I’m not sure what to believe about any of it. There are plenty of Ilonians alive, although they separated themselves. I can understand the desire to wipe them out, though. I have no clue about the Andilonians, as the only one I ever met was Torin. You guys have said it’s not the same.” They nodded.
“Honestly, I think you have good and bad on both sides of the conflict. The Andilonians are inherently rather brutish bastards, and the Ilonianas, from what I remember, tend to be snobbish and superior. They are both Fae, and from what I have seen and learned, most Fae don’t get along with each other at all. So, there have been conflicts and wars for generations. So, there’s truth and lies in all of it. The important thing is just to be around people who you care about and are good people, no matter what their species.” I nodded.
“That was very well said, Samaria.” She smiled at me.
“You know humans do that as well. They might not be conflicted by species, but they always get conflicted with skin color, nationality, and all of that bullshit. So, I guess it’s rather universal if you think about it. So, I guess in the long run it’s not all that important. As far as I’m concerned, what species they come from has no bearing on whether the hybrids will be welcomed into whatever my dad ends up helping all of them build.” I saw heads nod all over the room.
I looked at my mates, and then at my new friends. I thought about Nicole, Bishop, and Sean. So many things had been changed, for the better in my opinion, by love. That love could be mate bonds, friendship, or just families. Yet, there were so many things that it made stronger and more resilient. You can’t just cancel it out and get rid of it and think you can do without it.
I had gone most of my entire life without it. Raised in foster homes and shit without an ounce of love. I had survived, but my life was empty, and it wasn’t until I found Allen and The Bar, developed friendships and all of that, that my life began to improve. I never had any inkling that my mate was standing beside me.
Then when they pulled me into the mate bond with them. My life changed overnight. At first I had no idea what it all meant, but now, looking back over it, it was the best thing to ever happen to me. Now, I had two mates who I adored and who adored me back. We had three beautiful babies who we loved and were growing every day. We had two more who were going to grace our home very soon and just add to the amount of love that we filled our home with.
I had found the love of family for the first time, and now I had friends I loved. I could never imagine now going back and losing all of this. It has made me strong. It has made me resilient. So, to me, love was the strongest ingredient. Dekon would never understand that. That was why he was going to lose.
