Chapter 44 Black Widow
Chapter 44 Black Widow
The next day, as soon as Klein walked into the company, a dark figure jumped out from the corner.
"Klein, I..."
Jeremy's hand had just landed on Klein's shoulder when Klein threw him to the ground with a shoulder throw.
Jeremy hit the floor hard, producing a dull thud.
People passing by who saw this and heard that sound winced—that must have really hurt.
When Klein saw that the person who had ambushed him was Jeremy, he quickly helped him up from the ground.
"Dude, what's gotten into you? You know I'm very sensitive to sudden attacks like that."
Klein brushed the dust off Jeremy while Jeremy's face twitched in pain.
"You're really strong. No wonder you could take on so many thugs by yourself."
Jeremy's words made Klein pause.
"How do you know I dealt with a bunch of thugs recently?" Klein looked at Jeremy in confusion.
"Because you saved my sister! When I heard Nova tell me what happened yesterday, I was scared to death."
Jeremy's tone was full of gratitude. In his excitement, he even wanted to hug Klein and kiss him on the forehead.
Klein reacted quickly, grabbing Jeremy's lips as his face came closer.
"So that's it. I told her not to tell you to avoid worrying you, but I guess little girls like to tell their brothers everything."
Klein understood now. He noticed Jeremy pointing at his own mouth with a pained expression, tears even welling up in his eyes.
"Sorry, I used a bit too much force. But I really hate being kissed by men—it might mess with my sexual orientation."
Klein let go. Jeremy's mouth was a bit red and swollen from being pinched.
Jeremy didn't mind the roughness. He rubbed his lips and said gratefully, "Bro, you're my best buddy. You don't know—she's my only sister, my only family in this world."
Klein's expression turned odd. "Then why would you let your only family member go pole dancing? Those places are full of thugs—not exactly safe."
"What did you say? Pole dancing?"
Jeremy's voice instantly rose, drawing looks from passersby, all with strange expressions.
Seeing Jeremy's shocked expression, Klein scratched his head awkwardly.
"She didn't tell you? Well, I shouldn't have said anything."
"I've told her so many times not to do that kind of dancing! Why won't she listen to me? Damn it!"
Jeremy angrily pulled out his phone.
Seeing his angry expression, Klein guessed there would be quite an argument. To avoid attracting even more attention, he pulled Jeremy into the elevator.
"I've told you so many times! Don't go to places like that! Do you even listen to me?"
Jeremy roared into the phone, while Nova's voice came through—soft but firm.
"You have no right to interfere with my freedom. I like dancing, and I want to earn my own money!"
"Fuck! Today you want to pole dance, what about tomorrow? Aren't you afraid someone will point a gun at you and make you strip..."
Jeremy and Nova had a shouting match.
Klein quietly covered his ears. The argument between these siblings reminded him of Jennifer and Kenneth—that father and daughter also often fought about her career.
"Alright, Jeremy, you keep arguing. I need to get out." Klein waved and walked out of the elevator. As he stepped out, he clearly heard Nova, who had been arguing moments ago, burst into a different kind of scream.
"Is that Klein? Oh my God! Jeremy, let me talk to Klein—I forgot to get his number!"
But Nova's wish didn't come true. After she said that, the elevator doors were about to close, and Klein had no interest in continuing the conversation.
However, just before the elevator doors closed, Klein clearly saw Jeremy staring at him with a wary look.
Klein's mouth twitched slightly.
"That jerk Jeremy—why is he looking at me like I'm a thief? Is he worried I'll seduce his sister?"
Klein rolled his eyes and walked into the office.
Not long after, Klein hadn't expected that after complaining in the morning about how Jeremy and his sister's relationship was just like Jennifer and her father's, he would actually see Jennifer that afternoon.
"What are you doing here? Why are you here, too?"
Klein looked at Jennifer and Carol on the sofa and couldn't help but complain.
Could this woman, Carol, have actually gone to the police, suspecting I stole her underwear?
That was Klein's first thought. But he couldn't show the evidence, otherwise Carol would definitely go crazy asking why he had installed cameras in her room.
What Klein didn't expect was that Jennifer was here for something else.
"I came with Jennifer. She said they got some information from interrogating those five assassins yesterday. I happened to have some business at the company, so I rode over in her police car."
Klein's expression shifted. He sat on the sofa and gestured to Jennifer to continue.
"Those five guys are from an assassin organization called Black Widow. They received orders to assassinate Carol. But they didn't expect to get caught as soon as they entered the villa... What's with that look?"
After Jennifer finished, she noticed Klein's expression had turned strange, his eyes full of doubt.
"This is what you police got from the interrogation?"
Klein's tone was full of skepticism. Black Widow was a second-tier force in the dark world—mediocre in his view, but definitely not something an ordinary police station could get information from, since these assassins were professionally trained.
Jennifer's expression became dejected as she rested her chin on her hand. "Of course not us. I tried interrogating them—these guys were tight-lipped. My father somehow found a guy who got the information in less than ten minutes. I don't know how he interrogated them—he only told us the results."
Carol's eyes showed curiosity, while Klein looked like he understood.
It must be that special FBI department.
