Chapter 39 The Dance of Temptation

Chapter 39 The Dance of Temptation

Klein raised his hand and firmly blocked the slap the fat guy swung at him. His palm gripped the other's wrist tightly, and with just a little force, the fat guy grimaced in pain.

The fat guy yanked his hand back and glared at Klein angrily, the fat on his belly jiggling along with the movement.

"Fuck, do you know who I am? How dare you get in my way—do you have a death wish?"

One of his lackeys next to him said arrogantly, "Our boss is Victor. He owns shares in half the bars and clubs in this city!"

Klein ignored them and directly reached out to pull Nova behind him. He looked Victor up and down, his eyes full of disdain.

"So do you know who I am?"

Victor sneered, his tone dripping with contempt. "I don't give a fuck who you are. In this area, no one dares to cross me!"

Right after he finished speaking, the green-haired punk who Klein had scared off earlier leaned close to Victor's ear and quickly whispered a few words.

After hearing what he said, the arrogance on Victor's face instantly froze. His expression changed several times, but he quickly steadied himself, viciously kicking the green-haired punk in the stomach and putting on a tough front with a cold face.

"So what if you're a cop? I've had my eye on this woman for days. Asking her to keep me company is giving her an opportunity! The pocket change I drop is enough to keep her fed for life. What's she got to complain about?"

"Even if I beat you to death, I've got the best lawyers. I'll still walk out of here without a scratch. What can you do about it?"

Klein suddenly let out a cold laugh. He reached out and pushed Jennifer, who was standing beside him, forward a step, placing her directly between them. His tone was as casual as if he were talking about something trivial.

"Sorry, but I'm not a cop. She is, though. And she's the daughter of Police Chief Kenneth. If you've got the guts, go ahead and try messing with her too."

Jennifer was caught off guard by being pushed forward. She froze for a moment, then realized what had happened and turned to glare at Klein furiously.

Victor's gaze fell on Jennifer. His eyes lit up at first—clearly, he was stunned by Jennifer's looks and figure. Compared to Nova onstage, Jennifer had a more spirited air that made her even harder to look away from.

But when he thought about her identity as the chief's daughter, Victor's expression instantly became hesitant. His fists clenched and unclenched—in the end, he didn't dare actually offend her.

Despite her annoyance, Jennifer immediately pulled out handcuffs and looked at Victor with cold eyes, her tone carrying the natural authority of a cop. "Now, are you willing to come back to the station with me and have a little chat about how you just harassed someone?"

Victor knew clearly that the police chief's daughter was someone he absolutely couldn't afford to mess with. If this really went to the station, he wouldn't gain anything. He gritted his teeth hard and left a threatening remark.

"Fine, you win. I'll remember this!"

With that, he snorted coldly, glared viciously at Nova, and stormed out of the bar with his group of lackeys.

With the crisis resolved, Nova's anxious heart finally settled, her face full of gratitude.

"Sir, thank you so much. If it weren't for you, I really wouldn't have known what to do today."

Jennifer stood to the side watching this scene and couldn't help rolling her eyes internally, her face full of exasperation. It was clearly her identity that scared those people away, yet this girl only knew to thank Klein. Was it just because this guy was a bit handsome? This was way too biased.

To thank Klein properly, Nova enthusiastically pulled him and Jennifer to sit in the seats closest to the stage, where they could clearly see every movement onstage. After settling them in, Nova returned to the stage. The music started, and she began her pole dance.

She wore a tight short dress, her body supple and alluring. Her hands gripped the pole as her body slowly rotated around it, her waist moving with an easy sway. Every movement carried just the right amount of seduction, her motions smooth and enticing.

The lights shone on her, outlining her graceful figure. Nearly every pair of eyes below the stage was on her, every move catching people's attention.

Whistles and cheers from men occasionally rang out from below the stage.

Klein sat below watching quietly, unable to help muttering to himself that Nova really was quite a stunner, with a pretty face and a great body. But thinking about Jeremy—bald and greasy, always loud and brash—he couldn't help wondering if they were really siblings.

Just as Klein's mind wandered, Nova, onstage, suddenly slid down the pole and walked straight toward Klein's position. She bent down, crouching in front of Klein in an extremely seductive pose, swaying her hips in a slow dance right in front of him, her body gently brushing against his side.

A faint perfume scent drifted into Klein's nostrils. Nova lifted her head, a seductive expression on her face, her eyes locked on his, her movements growing bolder and bolder.

Klein's breathing hitched slightly, an inexplicable heat rising in his chest. But he knew clearly that Jeremy was at least a colleague at the company—he couldn't possibly do anything inappropriate with a friend's sister. He maintained his composure throughout, showing no response.

Seeing that despite all her teasing, Klein remained unmoved, a flash of disappointment crossed Nova's eyes. But she didn't continue, slowly standing up and returning to the stage.

Jennifer, watching from the side, quietly spat out the word "slut," her tone carrying some displeasure. Nova happened to hear it and looked back at Jennifer with a triumphant glance.

She admitted this woman's figure and looks were no worse than her own, but in terms of body flexibility and dance appeal, she considered herself far superior.

When the entire dance ended, Nova quickly walked to Klein's side, enthusiastically inviting him to have a drink together to properly thank him for the rescue.

Klein simply shook his head in refusal.

"Jeremy and I are colleagues. We work at the same company."

Nova looked surprised after hearing this, then showed an understanding smile.

Klein continued, his tone concerned. "That Victor won't let this go easily. He's probably still waiting nearby. I'll drive you home—it'll be safer that way."

For her own safety, Nova didn't turn him down. She nodded repeatedly and thanked Klein again.

The three of them left the bar together. Klein first drove Jennifer home since her place was closer. Throughout the ride, Jennifer barely spoke, still upset about being pushed forward earlier. When they reached her door, she just gave a simple goodbye and got out of the car.

After dropping off Jennifer, Klein drove Nova toward her apartment. They chatted casually along the way and soon arrived at her building.

After the car stopped, Nova unbuckled her seatbelt and turned to look at him:

"Today... thank you. If it weren't for you, I don't even want to think about what would have happened."

Klein shrugged. "No big deal. Mainly, I was thinking I could brag to Jeremy later about my heroic rescue story."

Nova laughed, then said seriously, "Either way, I owe you one. If there's ever anything you need from me, just say so."

Klein nodded. "Alright, then take care of yourself. Try not to do this kind of work anymore."

Nova softly replied, "Okay," pushed open the car door, and got out, waving goodbye to Klein.

Just as Klein was about to turn and leave, Nova suddenly rushed forward, stood on her tiptoes, and planted a big kiss on his forehead.

"This is my thank-you gift. Don't read too much into it." Her face was a bit red as she finished speaking in a low voice, then turned and ran back to the apartment entrance.

Klein stood frozen in place, still feeling the lingering warmth on his forehead. He gave a helpless, bitter smile, silently praying that Jeremy would never find out about this, or with Jeremy's personality, he'd definitely make a huge fuss about it.

Watching Nova enter the apartment building, the smile and relaxation on Klein's face instantly disappeared, his expression gradually turning cold. He didn't leave immediately but instead spoke coldly toward the bushes not far behind him.

"Stop hiding. Come out. You've been spying for quite a while now—you must be tired."

As his words fell, four or five burly men suddenly burst out from the nearby bushes, all holding clubs. Leading them was the green-haired punk who had been waving the butterfly knife in the bar earlier.

The green-haired punk stared at Klein, his eyes full of anger and malice, speaking viciously. "You're not a cop at all—you lied to me! Victor said we have to teach you a harsh lesson today!"

He paused, glanced toward the apartment building, and continued, "We originally planned to wait until you left, then kidnap that woman. Now it's perfect—we can take care of both things at once. Don't think you're walking away in one piece today!"
