Chapter Two Hundred and Five.

Chapter Two Hundred and Five.
Ember's POV

I sniffed and cleaned the tears that dropped from my eyes again. I was not in a good place right now. I was never in a good place, but this whole situation made it worse. I couldn't believe I was leaving every single thing I called my life because I can't stand the idea of the life I have been living for the past twenty seven years. I was a grown ass adult and should be able to put my feelings in check.

Instead, it was all boiling over without me having anything to do. It's as though I was watching my own life play out in front of me and not being able to do anything about it.

The train will be leaving this place in a few minutes and I will get to say goodbye to my old life. But it hurts. It hurts so bad. I don't have anything in my life that I would miss. The only good thing that has ever happened in my life was Asher. He was like a light that came into my life to stay. But I was only redacting back into the darkness that I was used to. This whole thing was all because of me. And I was sure he would've been glad that I had left already. Someone spoke into the microphone that it was time for my train to start loading up, so stood up.

I removed my phone from do not disturb to see if there was anything again. I was hoping he called again. Or maybe even dropped a text.

That was when missed calls started to come in again. This time around, not only from him. Charlie, Gwen and even Raffa. My heart skipped a bit.

I stopped in my walk and was about to call Gwen back to ask if there was any problem when her call entered again. I picked the phone.

“Hey. I missed your calls.” I can't even believe my own voice right now. I sounded so raspy and croaky too.

“Where are you?” She asked. Her voice was shaking and she sounded scared.

“What is going on? Are you okay?” Fear gripped me. I have never heard her talk like that.

“You need to come back…” she broke down again. “We've been trying to reach you since but to no avail.”

“Why?! Talk to me. You're scaring me here.” I said feeling myself spiraling. “Is A….Asher okay?” I whispered the last part.

“No he's not. So you better get your ass back here right now and clear up the shit you started.” It was Alex that spoke this time around. His voice was very hard. He sounded angry.

“I'm sorry….I can't come back. I...”

“Can you get over yourself?! I don't know what happened between you guys but you need to get here within the next few minutes. My friend got into a very fatal accident that might claim his life! I don't care how he feels about you but if my friend dies, I'm going to fucking kill you with my damn hands, you hear me?” He roared into my ears.

But I lost him in the accident part. How?... My hands were trembling, goosebumps covering up my skin.

“Ember, please. I'm sorry for that. Just come back. Where are you? I'll come pick you up wherever you are. We are at the hospital in town.” She said worriedly. I dropped the call and rushed away from where I was, all the ideas of leaving town draining away from me. The only thing that was on my mind was how I would be able to get to the hospital in one piece, and that too really fast. There was no other thought.

Oh God.

It's all my fault. It's me again. This was why I wanted to leave. How the hell am I even alive right now? The man I love is somewhere fighting for his life because of me.

When I was outside the train station, thank goodness there was a taxi waiting. I didn't bother to ask, I just got in.

“The hospital.” He must know what I was talking about because there is only one big hospital in Hollow town apart from the clinics around. He started to drive.

How am I even going to face him? My hands felt clammy and my body felt itchy too. I can't believe this is what is happening right now. How?

By the time I got to the hospital, I rushed out of the cab and stumbled into the busy hospital. The emergency room was full. He should be somewhere here right?

I was checking the people in the cubicles in a haze even though I was being shouted out to leave when I heard my name being called.

“Ember!” I turned back and it was Gwen. She rushed at me and pulled me in for a hug. I felt a little bit of comfort that she has not even turned her back on me and blamed me for his condition right now.

“Where is he?” I asked shakily as I pulled myself away from her. Her eyes were tear glazed.

“Still in the operating room.” She said in a small voice.

“Oh my God.” I cried. “I didn't know. I swear. I told him I would leave. I thought he knew. I was supposed to leave before…..” I started to talk but she said I should calm down even though I could not. She made me enter an elevator that took us up to where the OR was.

By the time we stepped out, I saw people standing outside the OR waiting. I could recognize Alex, Raffa, and Charlie. There was a man that looked exactly like him, his father. And a woman who was crying profusely. She must be his mother.

What have I done?

Immediately Alex saw me, he started to walk angrily towards me. But he stopped when Gwen got in front of me. I cowered in fear but didn't say anything. I just stayed there.

“We already spoke about this Alex.” Her voice was stern and firm.

“Pray he recovers. And I mean fast. Else…” I don't need to be told of the silent threat that was edged to his words.
