Chapter 125
Chapter 125
Rachel didn't know what to say to make them happy and satisfied.
She hesitated, about to speak.
Ethan lazily glanced at them as he walked in from outside.
"Celebrating without me?" Ethan smiled as he approached.
Isaac shot Ethan a cold look. "We were thinking of sending you abroad."
"Sending me away? Why?" Ethan feigned ignorance.
Rachel felt relieved as Isaac's attention shifted to Ethan.
Dinner followed, and after they finished eating, Rachel went upstairs.
Today, Vera hadn't given her any trouble, which was a pleasant surprise.
After dinner, Rachel went upstairs to get some sleep.
She opened her bedroom door and lay on the bed, accidentally touching the ointment Kevin had given her.
Rachel applied a bit of the ointment to her fingertips and then to her neck.
She applied it several times, covering the bruises on her neck with the white ointment. A minty scent filled the air.
Rachel felt good and soon fell asleep.
...
The next day, Daisy called her, the ringing woke Rachel.
She finally got up to answer it.
Daisy's joyful voice came through. "They landed safely. I just spoke with them. I wanted to let you know so you wouldn't worry."
Rachel's lips curled into a smile. She stretched in the warm sunlight and replied, "Got it, thanks."
Rachel got out of bed.
Daisy laughed, "You didn't just wake up, did you?"
Rachel felt a bit embarrassed and coughed, "Yeah, I stayed up late last night."
"What did you do?"
Daisy wanted to chat more, but Rachel was too sleepy to keep her eyes open.
Her brain struggled to stay awake, but Rachel soon fell back asleep.
She slept until evening.
When Rachel finally got up, she realized she had slept the entire day.
She had lazed in bed all day, even with Vera at home.
It seemed Ethan's presence had diverted some of Vera's attention.
Otherwise, why hadn't Vera bothered her?
Rachel felt a bit happy thinking about it. She freshened up and got ready to go out.
As she stepped out, she saw Vera downstairs, snacking on sunflower seeds and watching TV.
Noticing Rachel, Vera glanced at her.
Rachel went downstairs, and Vera remarked, "Just getting up now?"
"Why didn't you wake me?"
"Would it have mattered? You'd just stay in bed anyway. But let me make one thing clear!" Vera tossed the sunflower seed shells into the trash and stared at Rachel, her tone serious. "In the Smith Manor, my husband, son, and I won't bother you, and you don't bother us."
"Let's just be strangers under the same roof."
Rachel's lips curved into a smile. She was more than happy with that arrangement.
"Fine by me. I never wanted to argue with you. It's you who kept giving me a hard time."
Vera's face stiffened, and she huffed, turning back to the TV.
Rachel couldn't understand why Vera had suddenly stopped fighting with her.
Maybe Vera was afraid of being kicked out. Or perhaps it was because Ethan was back, they had no time to deal with her.
Rachel decided to cook something.
She couldn't just laze around all day.
When Rachel entered the kitchen to cook, the maid's eyes turned cold as she glanced at Rachel. "Cooking isn't your job. Get out!"
Rachel noticed the maid's hostility. She hadn't even said anything yet.
"I'll just help out. My husband will be home soon."
The maid sneered, "You slept all day and now want to cook to impress? Not happening!"
"What do you mean by that? I can cook whenever I want. Who are you to tell me otherwise?" Rachel's face hardened with anger.
The maid's face darkened. "You'll just get in the way!"
"If you can't learn to speak respectfully to the lady of the house, you won't work here anymore." Rachel coldly stated. "We don't need disobedient staff."
The maid shouted, "Who are you calling names? Just a pretty face with no skills! What right do you have to insult me?"
Rachel's face darkened, ready to retort.
At that moment, the maid moved closer. She seemed ready to smash a bowl.
Rachel saw the bowl slip from the maid's hand and shatter on the floor.
Just then, Isaac came home.
Rachel fell to the floor, pretending, "I just wanted to cook a meal for my husband. Why did you have to be so rough with me..."
The commotion in the kitchen drew everyone's attention.
Isaac saw Rachel on the floor, surrounded by broken ceramics.
Isaac glared at the maid, who was trembling and quickly explained, "Mr. Smith, I didn't mean to, I..."
"You didn't mean to? Then what's this all about?" Isaac demanded.
The maid shook her head. "No, Mr. Smith, I didn't do it."
"You've always been hostile to Rachel," Isaac said coldly.
The maid panicked. "It was a misunderstanding!"
"You're fired. Get out of our house." Isaac pointed to the door.
Linda was also frightened by the scene.
She watched as Isaac helped Rachel up and carried her to the couch.
Vera, not wanting to get involved, went upstairs.
Isaac checked Rachel for injuries but found none.
He said, "If this happens again, call me immediately!"
"Okay." Rachel forced a smile at Isaac.
Isaac patted her head. "Sorry you had to go through that."
"It's okay, honey. She didn't mean to. Maybe I..." Rachel tried to make excuses for the maid.
Isaac was furious. "You're still defending her?"
