Chapter 68 - Ninety-eight of a hundred memories

"Do you know what time it is?" Yvo cut him off which made him stop writing.

"Are you dreaming? Go to sleep. Stop blabbing and go back to sleep!" he shouted at him and was about to hang up the call.

"Don't you dare hang up," he threatened Yvo.

He heard Yvo's firm curses on the other line and the crash of what was something.

"You wake me up in the middle of the night and suddenly talk about financial statements and looking into Hidalgo Group?" he complained, but he ignored it and continued reading.

"I'll introduce you to a sexy woman."

"I don't care! I have a sexy woman right here!" Yvo exclaimed.

"She's 39-24-26," he said again.

The other line was silent for a moment which made him shake his head.

"It's been a while since I graduated. I can't remember... The redemption cost is the initial acquisition cost minus the appreciated depreciation and times..." He heard this explained to him, so he started writing while listening to Yvo.

"To put it simply, there are two approaches. The economic approach and the accounting approach. The economic approach is ... simply put, you deduct from your assets little by little over time. That's a simple way of putting it. The accounting approach is a bit difficult. You take the assets you have... it's the same way of putting it..."

As Javier listened to Yvo's explanation to him, he began to piece together what Megan had done earlier. He didn't even have a hard time doing that because Javier was so smart about anything. That was nothing to him.

"Percepta..." Javier said while staring at the companies he wrote on the sticky notes. He seemed to have heard it before.

He suddenly remembered what his ex had told him about a company that could be Megan's solution to get big money without being sold anything.

"There's a company named Percepta that went bankrupt two years ago. Another company acquired it and started mining six months ago. They're going to hit it big soon. If you have money, invest in that quickly. I'm only telling this to you..."

[The night where Javier was supposed to meet Megan at the bridge, but he came late.]

Meanwhile, Javier awoke to the sound of his cell phone. He angrily answered the call without looking at who the caller was.

"Yes..."

"It's me, Ava..."

His gaze rose from looking down.

"You're still at the resort, right? Where are you? I'll come over there," she told him softly as if he didn't know what her intentions were to him now.

"I have plans," he replied coldly to the woman.

"Just give me 10 minutes. I have something to tell you," Ava insisted to him.

Javier raised an eyebrow at what he heard.

"I don't have anything to hear—"

"I want to see you, Javier. Just give me 10 minutes..."

Javier tightened his grip on his cell phone when he heard that. To this day, the woman still knew how to take him.

When Ava told him where she was, Jaavier lazily went to the place. In the distance, he could clearly see her on the bridge above the sea. He stared at her first before approaching. He wanted to condition himself before facing her. He wanted to be strong enough to face her.

When she saw him approaching her, she immediately smiled at him as if everything was fine with them.

"Javier..."

He looked at Ava coldly and did not speak before facing the sea. He had no intention of speaking because it was just a waste of his time.

"I thought you might not come—"

"You have 10 minutes. What do you want to say?" he cut her off.

He also seemed to want to break even her hope in him. He knew she wanted him to stop what he was doing to destroy her life little by little.

He glanced at his watch for a moment and nodded. "You can start now."

"Did I make you like this?" Ava asked him, so he looked even colder around.

"Yeah, I did this to you. You were such a warm person. You've become such a cold person. I did this to you."

Javier looked at his wristwatch again and ignored what the woman said. He didn't even want to hear it. He didn't want to hear her voice anymore.

"It's already been a minute. Shouldn't you get to the point?" he coldly said to Ava.

He heard her deep sigh beside him. He didn't want to see her anymore, so he kept his gaze on the vast ocean.

"Let's take a boat ride."

He looked at her quickly. He saw her reddened eyes but that did not reason enough for him to pity her. He hated Ava even more, that he wanted to vomit.

"I want to get on a boat and go to the end of the ocean." Ava continued. He just shook his head and looked at his wristwatch again.

"2 minutes," Javier uttered coldly.

"We said we'd do that. You said you'd take me on a boat ride. That we'd go to the end of the ocean. We would go see what's at the end of the world. You said that. You didn't keep that promise."

Javier's jaw tightened at what he heard. He wanted to denounce her with promises she had not kept. He wanted to denounce her with a sacrifice she did not reciprocate, instead, turning her back on him.

He wanted to say everything he felt for the woman, but he couldn't. He didn't want Ava to think that he was still hurting from what she had done to him because he was sure she would think that he still loved the woman.

Again, he looked at his watch.

"Three minutes."

He heard her heave a deep sigh but still, Ava continued speaking.

Hearing her made him sick! He hated the woman. He did not expect her to be like this because of the desire to rise. He could not now imagine that he had been able to love such a woman. He didn't think it would be like this after all he had done for it.

That was what he thought was enough, but he was wrong. For Ava, who had high ambitions, Javier would never be enough for her.

"Nine minutes," Javier uttered after her long speech to him.

He saw in his peripheral vision that she looked at the sea. Even for a moment, he did not look at her and had no intention.

"I wonder what's down there. The bottom for me is the gutters. Even that's too good for me. Is it better down there?" He heard her say that, so he got even angrier.

He already had a hunch of what she would do when she just said she wanted to see him, yet he went to her but with hesitations.

Ava looked at him again with her pitiful look. She was an expert at that.

"Aren't you curious? I'd like to go in and see."

Javier nodded to himself and looked at the watch again as if he heard nothing.

"Ten minutes."

"Javier..."

"I'm going," he said and turned his back on the woman. He would never be driven again.

"Don't go. Don't go, please. Don't go to Megan!" Ava shouted at him, but he just kept walking away.

But he was completely stunned when he heard that something seemed to have fallen into the sea, so he looked at it. He was confused when he just saw Ava's sandals.

"Fucking... Ava!" he shouted angrily and jumped into the sea.

For the nth time, Javier saved Ava again. He did his best to save her again. Even though he knew it was a trap again just the first time. Even though he knew it was another one of the woman's shows. Even though he knew it would ruin him again.

Javier did not know how he would feel as he stared at the woman he hated. She is still unconscious. Fortunately, he was able to get help in that area and immediately took Ava to a small clinic in that province.

He turned his gaze to Ava's hand with the IV attached. His hand went numb when he felt a desire to hold Ava's hand. One of the reasons he didn't want to see her anymore was that he became weak suddenly in front of her.

He seemed to want to give up and reclaim the woman. He seemed to want to give up and love the woman again.

He blinked twice as he stood up and was about to leave her, but Ava suddenly spoke.

"I wasn't sure..."

He looked at her out of the corner of his eyes. She woke up and sat up while looking at him.

"You haven't gotten over me, have you?"

He quickly looked at her sharply. He wanted to hurt the woman if only he could.

"That's why you've been lingering around me." Ava continued.

Javier swallowed nothing but pain. He immediately removed from his mind the desire to reclaim the woman and pretended to laugh sarcastically.

"You seem to be mistaken—"

"Then why did you save me? I have nothing to do with you. I'm trash. You should've let me die. Why did you save me?" Ava cut him off. The anger in his heart welled up again and seemed to be eating him up.

He immediately averted his eyes from Ava and cussed inside his head multiple times. Because even he himself did not know why he saved the woman.

"I'm going to come back..."

He looked at Ava again because of what she said. Their eyes met immediately.

"I'm going to come back to you. Not now, but soon. I'm going to come back to you, so trust me and wait."

Javier's jaw tightened even more because of what he heard.

"How far is your bottom?" he firmly said to Ava while looking at her like he loathed her. "How far do you plan to fall? Is there no limit to how low you will fall?"

"Javier..."

"You should have told me sooner before you tested me. Then I might have wavered," he told her and quickly turned his back on her before his tears could flow.

"Javier..." Ava called to him gently, so he was even more upset.

"Ninety-eight of a hundred memories. Wasn't it enough to step on all that?" he asked firmly again and looked at her.

Javier's eyes were full of anger and pain because of Ava, and he couldn't hide it anymore.

"You should have left two as good memories. Then I wouldn't have thought my first love was that low. I wouldn't understand, but I would have forgiven you. Then a life of thinking you were everything wouldn't feel so fucking unfair!" Javier said in vain and immediately left with his broken soul.

That was what had been in his heart for a long time. The memories of the two of them that Ava just threw away and trampled in front of him so easily. He could never understand why. He could never understand why it led to this, but he knew in himself that he could accept it.

He just wasn't sure when.

When he had gone out, William appeared to him. He was looking straight at him, so he also looked straight at the man. A few more moments and Javier decided to leave.

Javier was exposed to the music and parade of various mascots. It was bright even at night because of the amount of light. It was a provincial festival that was held only once a year, so he watched the parade for a while.

Moments later, he was stunned when he remembered his conversation with Megan earlier. He quickly glanced at his watch and saw that it was six o'clock, so he immediately ran quickly to where she was staying, thinking that it had come home from waiting for him.

He lost that in his mind!

Javier felt even more guilty when he saw no one there, so he ran again to the place they were talking about. When he reached the bridge, he felt even more guilty when he saw Megan there sitting and asleep.

He slowly approached the woman and then knelt in front of her. He touched her hair and then gently stroked her cheek causing the woman to wake up, and she immediately looked at him.
