Chapter 67 - Too Good For You
[The night wherein Megan went with Javier to the province.]
Sometime later, Javier opened the player and turned up the volume. He sees in his side of the eyes Megan's periodic glance at him as if she wanted to say something to him. He didn't even bother to ask himself that.
They traveled for about three hours until they reached the front of the mansion of the Hidalgo. Megan and Jamilah are still asleep.
He stopped his car just in time when he saw Ava just getting out of another car. She was with someone, so he didn't go down first and waited for what would happen because Ava seemed to be drunk, her gait faltered as the man supported her.
Sometime later, the two stopped in front of the gate and had something else to talk about. Javier thought it would end there but he was wrong. He was surprised for a moment when Ava suddenly kissed the man.
That was long, something that made Javier's flesh tremble again with rage. He was no longer surprised there. What else could he expect from this woman? But what he wanted to know was why and what was going on. What a trash gold-digger.
Javier waited for the man to leave. Even before Ava could enter, he immediately got out of his car. He intentionally showed up to Ava to let her know he saw what happened. They stared at each other for a moment before he sneered at her.
There was a look of shock and fear on Ava's face at those times, especially when he turned towards the passenger's seat to open for Megan who was still sound asleep. When he opened the passenger's seat, Megan woke up immediately. He bent down and approached the woman who almost hit their faces again then removed her seatbelt.
"You're home. Wake up," he said to the woman then looked at her with another sigh.
"Did I fall asleep? I must have. I can't believe I slept in someone else's car," she told him with a laugh and then got out and saw Ava.
Javier could clearly see the shock in Ava's eyes. He smiled even more because of that.
You know what I'm doing, Ava. You should know. So, you can prepare.
"Thank you." Javier heard Megan say, so he turned his gaze to her.
"That's what I should say, right?" the woman asked him. He didn't answer that and nodded tiredly.
"I'm leaving," he said tiredly to the woman before walking back to the driver's seat.
"Let's meet again, you and I," he heard Megan say to him again, so he stopped walking.
Ava remained watching them. He turned his gaze to Megan again.
"I'm suddenly curious about you. Let's meet again, you and me. Tomorrow and the day after," Megan told him while smiling, so he smiled as well and nodded.
And then you fell... on my trap. Easily. Megan Hidalgo. Why...

[The day wherein Megan introduced Javier to her father.]
"Get rid of that young man. Give him what he wants. If you can't get rid of him easily, lock him up for blackmail. If you need muscle, call William."
"Dad!" Megan shrieked at her father.
Javier looked at the crying Megan before looking at the old man.
It doesn't influence him anymore. He would be even more surprised if the old Hidalgo accepted him after everything he said. The rich can afford to make something easier because they have money. Something that Javier could never swallow.
A few moments later, Pantaleon Hidalgo finally left with William. Megan followed so he was left there with Ava. He smirked as he stared at the food.
"Is your world that good even if this is how you're treated?" He starts. He noticed Ava sitting down again.
"What a waste. He left all the food. It's the best brunch I've ever had. Shall we begin with the negotiations? How much will you pay me to get lost? A 50 million?" He asked Ava who remained looking in the other direction.
He saw her reddened eyes the moment she looked at him. He smirked again and continued eating.
"You should hold a meeting with people in your town and come up with a new repertoire. I'm getting tired of the same story." He said lazily to the woman while just playing with the food on his plate.
"Why are you doing this? What are you after? What are you trying to pull, you bastard!" Ava roared at him, so he quickly looked at her.
"What do you think?" He firmly asked Ava with his heavy heart.
Every time he sees the woman, it gets so much heavier that he can hardly handle it anymore.
"Do you want money? Should I give you money? A 50 million? Sure, I can give you that. Do you want more? Tell me anything. I will give it to you," she desperately asked him, but Javier could only hear an insult, so he looked at Ava even more sharply.
He didn't answer, so the woman went even crazier. Sometime later, she suddenly looked at him again. Her eyes were full of fear and anxiousness.
"Are you after... revenge? Are you being childish and taking revenge for betraying you? What would you gain from that? At least benefit from it. Just ask for money!" Ava shouted at him again, but Javier remained silent as if he didn't care what the woman was saying.
He drank more water for a while.
"You sell your body for money anyway."
He was shocked when he heard that thing from Ava. He could feel his heart getting heavier.
"Be smart. Think about Jamilah. You only live once. You can just take the money and live a posh life too!"
Javier almost dropped the glass on the table, almost breaking it. The anger in his heart for Ava could not be matched by anything, even if he hurt her. He only wanted one thing; he wanted her to experience hardship again so that she would remember from which mud she came.
"You've gone insane," he firmly uttered and looked at her with his burning eyes.
"That's why I plan to bring you back. I don't know how fancy and luxurious and great your world is, but it's no place for you. Someone like you shouldn't be there," he told the woman firmly.
Javier's eyes were full of hatred and anger for Ava, especially when he mentioned her name.
"Javier!"
"Don't fucking even say my name! If someone like you stays there as if everything is fine, all justice, hope, order, and dreams will be lost in this world. The dark world that you detested when you were a lawyer, which angered you and made you despair will come if someone like you stays there," he continued as his tears had almost flowed from the extreme anger he felt.
He almost stood up and threw the swab on the table.
"If you won't come down, I'm coming up. I'm coming up to get you," he threatened and looked at her again.
"Stop harming the world. Pack your things before I get there," he threatened the woman and turned his back on her.
But before he could finally leave, Ava spoke.
"So? Where do I belong? Where is that? That sewer? That endless sewer filled with crap?"
Javier grinned sarcastically and faced Ava again.
"No. Even that is too good for you," he finally told the woman then left.
There he also completely left his love for Ava which was completely replaced by anger, hatred, and revenge.

[The night wherein Javier went to see Megan at the resort.]
"Are you after... revenge? Are you being childish and taking revenge for betraying you? What would you gain from that? At least benefit from it! Just ask for money! You sell your body for money anyway."
Javier could not forget what Ava had said to him and that was repeated over and over in his head like a broken record. He tightened his grip on the steering wheel as he looked straight at the road.
He now goes to Megan to see her and help the woman defeat Ava. After what he heard while talking to Megan, he couldn't let go of it. Especially since he knew he had a lot of aces. He knew that Ava and William had had an affair. He knew Ava would do anything just to keep herself on top. And he wouldn't let that happen after it did ruin his life.
He suddenly remembered William went to him one night at the bar where he was working just to threaten him. As if he would be immediately frightened of its warning.
"I saw an animal documentary on TV a few months ago. A large jackal chased a small coyote and bit its tail. The coyote headed to a cliff because it didn't want to get eaten. If the jackal didn't let go, it would fall with the coyote. That was the only choice for the coyote. How tragic." William told him as if he did not know that he was the one the man was referring to.
William is threatening his life.
Javier ignored that and continued wiping the shot glasses while looking at the man. He had no interest in listening to the man and did not know what he meant to him.
When Javier did not speak, he continued to tell the story.
"I didn't get to watch the end because I had to go out. I wonder what happened to them. I wonder once in a while. If the jackal is wise, it would have let go of the tail. If it was foolish, it would've fallen off the cliff with the coyote and died. What do you think it did?" William directly asked him while looking at him intently.
Javier just grinned and shrugged as he continued cleaning the shot glass.
"The jackal probably fell off the cliff and died with the coyote. It was probably much more foolish and reckless than you think," he simply replied to the man.
His gaze deepened on him as if he didn't like his answer.
"It's an animal, but it must have been afraid of death. Don't you think it changed its mind at the edge of the cliff realizing it would really die?" William insisted to him which made him shake his head.
He looked at him quickly.
"No, I don't think it did that. However, it probably told the coyote that it was fortunate they could go together. And that at least it didn't have to die alone," he smiled back at the man and looked him straight in the eyes. He seemed to want him to see there what he meant.
When Javier arrived at the hotel where Megan was staying, he immediately saw the necklace of the latter hanging on the wooden board in the tree. He approached it and saw Megan's full name and her birthday on the wooden board. A few moments later he went to the front door and there he saw many notes on the door.
DO NOT DISTURB. DO NOT KNOCK ON THE DOOR.
Javier glanced at his wristwatch. It is past twelve in the morning. He shrugged and just sat on one side away from the door while periodically looking at his wristwatch with each passing minute.
He could hear Megan swearing and shoving inside. At three o'clock, the door suddenly opened, and it spat on Megan, but the latter did not see him. She walked straight to the lake and washed her face. Then lay down on the lawn.
He just stared at her. He could clearly see the woman's tiredness and frustration. A few moments later, he noticed that she was asleep, so he approached her. He saw her pale face. Her forehead was still furrowed as if in a dream, she was still carrying her problem.
"The numbers don't match. The numbers don't match," she repeatedly uttered.
He tried to wake her up, but she seemed so tired, so he just let her go and went inside.
When he entered, he was exposed to scattered paper and scratches. He looked one by one at what was written there and there he saw what the woman had referred to earlier. He also suddenly remembered what Ava had said to Megan when he heard their conversation.
"A bluff only works on people below you. For example, young, foolish, and naïve people like you. I told you. You're no match for me..."
He wasted no more time and quickly sat down then started what Megan did not finish. In the middle, he called Yvo to ask for help.
"Hello?"
"You majored in business management, right? Tell me how to read a financial statement," he greeted Yvo who looked like he had just woken up because of his call.
"What? What's this phone number?" Yvo asked him, but Javier didn't mind it at all.
"You have a friend on the finance team at Hidalgo Empire, right? Contact everyone you can and find out about the Hidalgo Empire."
