129. Things Move Fast
Fox POV
Caden was helping me bring up the gang leader to the penthouse. “I told you we should have drugged him.” He said as the guy thrashed. “No, we couldn’t have, he would be delirious when we strung him up. I can’t make this take too long; Ophelia is not up for long sessions of torture at the moment.” I said as I punched the guy with a sack over his head. He needed to stop squirming.
“Ophelia is a boss; I saw her the last time she tortured she looked like she could handle it.” Caden said. “No not right now.” Caden didn’t know that the torture she did made her so exhausted she had passed out. Nor that she was pregnant. Caden and I had been lucky catching this guy. He wasn’t in his hive with the other members of his gang. He had been in the local bodega we had been in. I was getting more cigarettes, and he happened to be there. Caden and I grabbed him before he could do anything.
“She can handle it; I am surprised she didn’t come with us.” I snapped at Caden “I told you she wasn’t going to.” He was about to say something when the doors opened to the penthouse, and we shoved Jordan in. He kept thrashing “Dude shut the fuck up, there is two of us and one of you.” Caden yelled. I saw a lazy Ophelia pop her head up, she looked groggy. “What is going on?” She said softly. Caden laughed and said to the covered head of Jordan “Now you are done for, the angel of death is here.” I shot him a look.
Ophelia looked at the three of us. “Who is that?” She asked taking a large yawn. “We brought you a man to torture and kill.” Caden replied and she just raised one of her brows. “I will tell you when I get him secured.” I said and Caden and I got him to the room that was already set up. I had the place cleaned but everything Ophelia had used on the fake cop was still up. Everything but the kitchen table, that I put back, instead I had a black folding table up with what she had used. “Wow didn’t know you redecorated Valentine?” Caden said and I shot him a look of ‘will you shut the fuck up’. Once he was secure, I saw him thrashing in the chains. I grabbed the gag I had laid out and put it on him, no one needed to hear him screaming. “Thrash all you want but it won’t change anything.” I said as I pulled out a fresh pack of smokes and Caden and I left the room.
Ophelia was in the kitchen grabbing a juice and she looked at us. I lit my smoke and Caden started to blab. “We brought you someone to torture.” He said with a smile I rolled my eyes as did Ophelia. “Great” she said sarcastically. “So do I get to stay for the show?” He asked. “No” “Fine Valentine keep her to yourself. But I want to know what the angel of death did here.” Ophelia as well as I shot him a bored expression.
“Fine I will just show myself out then.” He said but as he left Ophelia said, “The boomerang is amazing Caden kind of my new favorite accessory.” He smiled huge and I realized then that Ophelia was more than just some figure, she now was probably the one people would fear. When all said and done and this stupid crime war was over, she would be the head of this syndicate, and I would have a regular day job.
“Glad you like it, maybe I will think of something new for you to wear or use on a day to day.” She gave him a nod, though she didn’t smile Caden did. Yep, everyone loved her more than me. She was more ruthless but even her apathetic demeanor was nicer than mine. She would be the head of the crime when it was all over not me. I didn’t know how to feel about that. I was happy and also kind of perturbed. Caden left leaving us alone. I watched as Ophelia’s perfect lips cupped the fruit juice bottle. I could see the scar cutting through her lips.
“I planned the wedding Fox, just need my dress. Wedding will be soon, and before you ask only ten people are coming. I also want you to know we will have the paper come do a piece and sell it the right way and your associates won’t care they were not invited. Everyone will think it is a honeymoon babies no impropriety for the papers so yay!” The last part was dripping with sarcasm. I went to say something, but she spoke again. “Also took a job I think in a few weeks to a few months it will start so don’t worry I won’t be bored out of my mind and before you ask, yes most of it will be work from home so our babies will get all of me.”
Fucking hell she was amazing, she had done all that in one day? When I left this afternoon, she was reading a book and now she had a wedding done and a job. “What is the job?” I asked. “Private contractor for FBI, but not actually in it. You know no clearance and all, I will help solve old cold cases, and yes, it is Robert Stevens my old director running it. He is sending a contract to look over.” I jumped right in “You want to work for him again?” That was shocking, Ophelia shrugged. “It is an analytical job, so yeah seems fine. I liked what I did before I came back here so I think I should be fine. Robert is stupid but whatever at least I get to do what I love. I mean you have more than the illegal empire all the other family heads do so why can’t I?”
She made a fair point. “Okay, I guess, anyways the guy I brought in.” “Jordan right you told me a bit about him he runs the gang called The Children?” I nodded. “Another head perfect now we need Nathan and then Murphy’s son, that one we use as a ploy to get him to come to us and then we kill him.” She said and I nodded. It was a perfect plan.
She and I walked back to the room the man was strung up in. Ophelia said to him “Did you turn against Valentine?” She asked. I removed his gag for his response. “I am not saying shit to you two.” Ophelia sighed. She was clearly tired. “Look dude, you can tell me what I want to know, and it can be over fast, or we can play with you until you squeal, and you beg to just be put down.” He spat at her, and she said, “very well.”
I watched as she exited the room, and I followed. “Little Psycho what are you doing?” I asked, “Grabbing a chair, I am tired and don’t want to torture you can though and I will watch.” I snorted. I grabbed a chair for her and brought it back into the room. She sat and said “Start with the pliers on toes first Fox.” She spoke.
I never did this the way she had. I always used fists occasionally a knife to carve but Ophelia clearly knew how to make someone hurt to the point of breaking. It had been clear when I found her at it last time. I did as she said and he squealed, revealing what we wanted and confirming again it was Nathan and Murphy behind it all. Ophelia stood up. “I am going to bed, make him suffer he choose that, and he should get what he asked for.” Then she left the room, and I was left with the guy who was crying.
