Chapter 162 - My Rejected Wife Is A Billionaire

"Oh, thank you."

After a brief pause, Cecilia realized Justin was still holding that basket, which she then took over.

Lowering her head, she deftly began to cut the chicken with a small knife.

Justin didn't leave; he just quietly watched her work on the meat.

"The kitchen tends to get smoky. Mr. Quinn, you might prefer to wait outside. Dinner will be ready in twenty minutes," she suggested softly, finding his presence made her feel somewhat awkward while she cooked.

Justin agreed but didn't walk away.

It seemed as though he was treating her like a cooking show host, curious about the cooking process.

Cecilia decided to ignore his presence entirely, focusing intently on her cooking task.

"You cook well?" Justin inquired, breaking the silence.

Cecilia sneered, "You seem to have a short memory. I was a housewife, remember? Cooking and cleaning were my nature."

Before marrying Justin, she barely knew how to do any housework.

Yet, after marrying Justin, she found herself becoming a maid, enduring daily chores amidst the criticisms and scolds from Ellie and Brie.

Rather than dwell on the painful past, Cecilia chose to focus on the task at hand, efficiently stirring the chicken in the pan.

Indeed, Justin hadn't shown any concern for her life during their time in the Quinn Mansion.

Back then, he hated her guts, completely oblivious to how she was treated or what her life was like under their roof.

But now, it was evident she managed to live well without needing his financial support.

"Is your father also a shoemaker?" he suddenly asked.

While stirring the pan, Cecilia paused at his question, turning to look at him with a hint of confusion.

What did he mean by "also"?

Was there someone else in his life whose father was in the same profession?

She didn't voice her confusion and chuckled instead.

Cecilia didn't explain her laughter, but Justin understood instantly.

As Cecilia was about to serve the cooked dish, Justin abruptly held her hand. "Did you frequently visit Beacon Hospital in the past?"

Cecilia turned to face him.

Was he starting to recall their shared history?

Just as she was about to respond, his phone rang.

"You should take it," she suggested, seizing the opportunity to break free.

Cecilia hadn't yet figured out how she wanted to discuss their past.

Then, she turned and left the kitchen.

After a lengthy phone call, Justin returned, his expression somber.

He rubbed his brow and then looked over at Cecilia and Nico, who were already seated at the table.

Nico looked eagerly at Justin while Cecilia avoided eye contact, her tone icy.

"If there's something urgent, you can leave."

She had overheard Erin's name from the other end of the call just before she stepped away.

"There's no hurry," Justin stated calmly, taking a seat beside Nico.

"Dad, try this," Nico said, offering him a bite.

"Thank you," Justin responded softly, starting to eat.

Once dinner was over, Nico scampered off to play.

Justin observed Cecilia, still wearing her apron, as she began to clear the table.

While being immersed in household chores, she seemed both unchanged and yet fundamentally different from the person she used to be.

However, Justin couldn't quite grasp the nature of this transformation.

Observing Nico playing nearby and Cecilia busy cleaning brought Justin a sense of peace and tranquility, as if, after a stormy journey, he had finally arrived home.

It was a feeling he had never experienced in the Quinn Mansion.

When Cecilia finished cleaning and noticed Justin still hadn't left, she felt puzzled.

Even if he wasn't interested in dealing with Erin, he presumably had work commitments.

Why was he behaving as if all his responsibilities had vanished?

Cecilia was well aware of the prosperity of Justin's company, with their net profits skyrocketing by three hundred percent in the latest financial reports.

Justin used to be well-known within the state, but now, his prospering business had made him a big shot of the entire country.

Even his projects were reportedly too numerous to manage.

While she was lost in thought, the doorbell rang.

Curious about who could be visiting at such an hour, Cecilia was about to check when Nico eagerly rushed to the door. "It must be Grandpa!"

Then, she opened it cheerfully.

However, they didn't hear Edgar's voice, and Nico also fell silent.

Cecilia looked back and saw a wheelchair at the entrance, upon which sat a woman dressed in white, her makeup impeccable, her long hair framing her shoulders.

It was Erin, looking rushed and slightly sweaty as if she had hurried over.

Her gaze met Nico's, her hands resting on Nico's shoulders. "Nico, is your dad here?"

"Why are you here?" Justin approached, his expression darkening.

He lifted Nico into his arms, his gaze towards Erin cold and distant.

Erin looked at him plaintively, her lips quivering at his indifferent attitude. "I really need to talk to you. It's important."

"What is it?" Justin asked, his voice still icy.

Cecilia silently looked at them. The next moment, Erin replied softly, "It's about my sister..."
