Chapter 48

Chapter 48

The trial against Victor, the healer, and the other accomplices in the betrayal was swift and severe. It couldn’t have been any other way: they had dared to raise a hand against the Moon and, by extension, against the Alpha and the entire kingdom. The main hall was packed that day, every corner filled with subjects demanding justice.

Victor, chained, showed no remorse; his dark eyes exuded the same hatred that had consumed him for years.

—You were part of my pack —Kilian roared from the throne, his voice echoing against the stone walls—. You swore loyalty. And yet, you chose betrayal.

Victor lifted his chin, defiant.
—They took my daughter from me… it was only a matter of time before I claimed what was mine.

Abigaíl, seated to Kilian’s right, held his gaze without blinking.
—Your daughter chose her path, and you chose yours. But in this kingdom, choices have consequences.

Whispers ignited across the hall. The healer trembled, pale, while the other accomplices bowed their heads, knowing the verdict had been decided the moment they tried to touch the Moon.

The sentence came without delay. Kilian, with the authority of Alpha and King, decreed: perpetual exile for those who had silently collaborated, and execution for Victor and the healer who had aided him. The crowd roared in approval.

That decision marked a before and after. With the traitors removed, stability slowly returned to the kingdom.

The days grew calmer. The castle breathed a different air, one that blended respect with hope. And Abigaíl, though still needing care, recovered with each passing day. Food tempted her once again, and under Kilian’s watchful gaze, her cheeks regained color.

The pregnancy progressed normally. The healers checked her daily, surprised by the Moon’s strength. Though she often complained of constant hunger and the unbearable restrictions on her movement, Kilian pampered her excessively, which sometimes made her laugh and other times sigh impatiently.

—I’m not made of glass, Kilian —she said when he wouldn’t let her take more than three steps alone.
—I don’t care —he replied firmly—. I won’t risk anything. You and the pups are the most precious things I have.

She rolled her eyes, though secretly she melted inside.

As the moons passed, the news that there would be two pups spread like wildfire. The people began organizing early celebrations, and the court was already preparing everything for the heirs’ birth.

The day arrived.

The sun had barely risen when the pains began. Abigaíl awoke with a low groan, and Kilian, who had never fully slept since his return, immediately rose.

—What’s happening, kitten? —he asked, alarmed.
—What do you think? —she gritted her teeth, looking at him with fiery eyes—. Your children want to come out!

The room turned into chaos within minutes. Doctors, healers, maids, all rushed to prepare what was needed. Ian and Gabriel waited outside, attentive to every order.

Kilian didn’t leave her side for a second. He held Abigaíl’s hand, caressed her face, tried to speak calmly to her. But when the screams intensified and he saw his mate’s sweaty face, calm abandoned him.

—Do something! —he roared, grabbing the doctor by the collar and lifting him with ease—. Stop her pain, now!

The healer, face red from the pressure of the Alpha’s hand, barely managed to stammer:
—My lord… it’s… it’s natural… I can’t stop it…

—Then ease it somehow, damn it! —Kilian’s voice thundered, and his wolf roared within him with fury.

Gabriel immediately stepped in, grabbing his arm.
—Kilian, let him go. We need him alive for the pups to be born.

Ian positioned himself on the other side, pressing.
—Listen, brother. Abigaíl needs you here, not losing control.

The Alpha clenched his jaw, breathing heavily, and finally released the doctor, who fell to his knees, coughing. Kilian took his mate’s hand again, trembling.

—Forgive me, kitten… I can’t bear to see you suffer.

She, gasping, squeezed his hand tightly.
—Don’t apologize… just stay with me…

Time blurred. Cries, orders, sweat on Abigaíl’s forehead, Kilian’s pleas. Everything seemed endless, until a cry broke the air.

The first to arrive was the boy. A strong, powerful cry that filled the room as if he had inherited his father’s voice.

Tears overflowed from Kilian’s eyes as he looked at him, small and swaddled, held in the midwife’s hands. But before he could react, another cry joined the first.

The girl.

Smaller, more fragile, yet with such a firm tone that it made everyone in the room smile.

—Two —Abigaíl whispered, exhausted, tears rolling down her cheeks—. Just as they said.

Kilian received the boy first, then the girl. He held them as if they were the most sacred beings in the world, fearing even the air could harm them. Then he gently placed them in his mate’s arms.

Abigaíl looked at them, and a broken laugh escaped her lips.
—They’re perfect…

—They are —Kilian replied, leaning to kiss her forehead—. Just like you.

They remained like that for a few minutes, the three of them, until Ian and Gabriel ordered everyone to leave. No one protested; they knew the Alpha and his Moon deserved that moment alone.

Silence finally reigned in the chamber. The little ones cried softly, seeking the warmth of their parents. Kilian settled next to Abigaíl, wrapping them with his arms, breathing deeply, memorizing the scent of his children as if engraving the moment in his soul.

—I will never forget this —he murmured against Abigaíl’s hair.
—Nor will I —she replied, resting her forehead against his.

When calm returned, Kilian rose slowly, holding both in his arms. He walked to the chamber balcony, where the moon and stars still shone over the kingdom.

He closed his eyes and opened the link to the entire pack. His voice resonated clear, deep, full of pride.

—My people… my pack… the princes have been born!

The collective roar that responded from every corner of the kingdom was deafening. Wolves howling in unison, men and women cheering, bells ringing.

The news spread like an unstoppable river: the heirs had arrived, and with them, the certainty of a future.

Kilian returned to Abigaíl, who looked at him with tears in her eyes.
—Now… our empire is complete.

He kissed her lips tenderly, and the four remained together, in the intimacy of their chamber, while outside the celebration erupted under the starry night.

The kingdom finally knew true happiness.
