Chapter 50
"I can't believe it, you too Benjamin? Did the bitch really manage to win over your closed little relationship heart?" Michael laughed and took a step forward. "I've spent six years working with her and I've never been able to get the same look she gives you, do you think I'm going to give in when I finally get to touch her."
I put my hands in my pants pockets, I had nothing to lose as long as Sarah left here, even without me.
I took a deep breath making my choice, I would die for this woman if that's what it took to have her. Then I stepped forward to face Michael, he raised his eyebrows and pointed the gun at me again.
"If I do that, Benjamin... You'll have to take care of her with your own fucking life, do you understand?" I saw him lock his jaw through his peripheral vision.
"Even if she doesn't want me." He agreed and the pain of no longer being able to see her fell on my chest.
I took another step and threw myself to grab the iron rod that should have knocked him out on the first try, the gun's shot clearing a thousandth of a second before I felt my shoulder burn.
"David..." I heard another shot echo through the room, Sarah was leaning over the blankets calling my name and making everyone look in her direction.
"Benjamin!" I shouted reaching for the rod, Michael looked at his brother and I lifted with the same force I used to slam into Michael's knee.
Benjamin ran to Sarah while Michael screamed and fell to the ground, I wouldn't survive if I kept losing so much blood. But I would take this son of a bitch with me before he ever thought of touching my little girl again.
"Let me go!" I shouted as David fell to the ground with Michael. "Now!"
Ben held me like I was going to break and even tried to drag me out, I couldn't leave him there, Michael wouldn't stop, he wouldn't give up until he saw David on the floor and I couldn't leave him alone.
"Fuck! Sarah, do you realize the shit that's going on in there?" Ben held my hand trying to explain something I already knew, something I'd been going through for hours.
"I hope you're on the right side, Ben..." I said weakly, but I still needed to get back there and make sure David was okay again.
"Oh fuck!" He grunted, running his hands through his dark hair as my chest leaped with doubt and fear. "You know David made me promise..."
"Fuck!" I gasped, looking for anything that might give me a shred of reassurance before opening that damn door again.
"Brute woman, you're going to get me into fucking trouble!"
I shrugged off my clothes, ready to sink that piece of pipe into the head of the only person I thought was my friend, the only guy I thought was decent, even if he was a chicken.
Michael was standing holding the rod that David had used to hit his knee, I saw, at the same moment that Benjamin pulled me out of the room.
David was breathing hard on the floor, clutching not only his shoulder but also his left thigh. I swallowed my saliva in so much pain that my knees almost gave way on the floor. Nothing else mattered.
I didn't care what David had done to get to me, not even what he had done to Mike to defend me. I didn't care about Michael anymore.
David twisted his face as he coughed and a large amount of blood came out of his lips, he had hurt himself to defend me, he was here for me...
I ignored Benjamin in my wake and walked slowly, the blood heating up in my body and all I could see was the exact spot where I would hit him with that piece of pipe. I didn't have the strength to walk, let alone stand, but I needed this and Michael would get what he deserved from me.
David coughed again as Michael sighed and seemed to analyze the situation.
"I should have died on the tarmac hours ago, it would have saved me time. Hell..." Michael said, pushing David's body with the rod, forcing open the wounds. "But at least now I'll be able to take revenge on you directly since you chose to stay in that bitch's place. Don't forget, she won't even remember you while she's fucking my brother..."
David sensed my movement and looked in my direction, the cloudy gray shining beautifully as I prepared with all the strength I had to take this bastard down at once.
"You're wrong," David said, raising his body on his elbows, flashing his best smile, and making my heart soar.
"Hey, little shit!" Ben called out, causing Mike to stiffen his body and turn around.
I didn't think, I put all my strength into that pipe and aimed it at Michael's head. He widened his eyes and prepared to dodge my attack, but David kicked him off balance and I finally hit him. The tremor reverberated through my arms and I lost control of the barrel, letting it fall to the ground.
Michael fell to the ground as unconscious as I had been minutes ago.
"Damn, you rough woman!"
My body complained of the effort and finally, my knees gave way, it was Benjamin's hands that held me up before I hit my head on the floor. But I wanted to be there, so I let go of the careful fingers and crawled over to where David had propped his back up, the happiness of having knocked Michael out died as soon as David coughed up another load of blood and smiled at me.
"My cruel little girl..." I sobbed, accepting the blood-soaked fingers caressing my face, and clung to the only thing I could think of at the moment.
"Please, don't you dare leave me..." I sobbed, staring at this damn man who had chased me to hell and without blinking taken me from him. "Not now..."
"Don't talk nonsense, I've already told you..." David smiled, taking a deep breath. "I can't live knowing that you've let someone else touch you, you know you're all mine, don't you?"
I collapsed on his chest, I needed a doctor to help him, he needed blood to regain his strength and not to keep saying nonsense like that!
"Come on, Sarah..." Benjamin called out and I refused to get up.
"No, call an ambulance... We need to get you to the hospital..."
David pushed me slowly before sitting down.
"Go with him, I'm fine... Michael's still alive and I have some things to take care of with him."
I looked at Benjamin and he nodded, there was something I didn't understand and even if it was some kind of fucking deal, we didn't have time. David needed a hospital urgently.
"No," I whispered, locking my gaze on the cloudy sky that David had in his eyes.
"Are you being bold?" I'll add to our list that I need to teach you some manners.
Benjamin snorted and I smiled, perhaps after everything I'd been through it was the first smile I'd managed, at least until my strength ran out.
