Chapter 37
ANGEL SINCLAIR.
I chose a comfortable and nice outfit for my first date with a boy I'd seen for the first time and accepted straight away. Perhaps because of the heat of the moment, perhaps because my desire to forget my problems and that idiot Bryan was even greater than my pride in accepting an invitation out of the blue. He got a point for being handsome, polite and from a good family. He beat Bryan twice just for being polite and coming from a balanced family, at least that was my first impression of him.
Once I'm ready, I look in the mirror and see that the light pink dress suits me perfectly. I pick up a less detailed bag to add to the look and it's perfect. My hair is as flawless as ever and my makeup is as natural as well.
I leave my room when Lorenzo texts me to say he's here and I find Dad in the living room reading a magazine. Next to him is Bryan, eating chips and soda and watching a fight on television.
"Where are you going, Angel?" my father asks, putting the magazine aside.
Bryan's curious gaze turns to me too, so much so that he even drops the packet of potato chips.
"I'm going to the mall," I reply.
"Are you going alone?" my father asks.
"No, I'm going with my friend Lorenzo," I say.
"Are you talking about Lorenzo García?".
"Yes, I am."
"That's wonderful!", my father smiles and stands up, "Lorenzo's a good boy, I didn't know you knew each other".
"We met at the club. He even spoke very highly of you".
"The Garcías are good people, daughter. Have a great trip and tell Lorenzo I sent him and his parents my regards."
"Right, I'll let you know. Bye, bye," I say, leaving the house.
Of course, I noticed Bryan's priceless frown and arched eyebrow. If he thought he was going to be the only one to score points in this stupid fucking game, he was sorely mistaken. I'm not going to let him win. And I'm going to take advantage of the fact that Dad likes Lorenzo because for some reason they get on well and I'm always going to make sure that Lorenzo is around.
As soon as I see his super flashy green car, I walk up to him.
"Hi," I say, smiling as I get into the car.
"Hi, Angel. You look beautiful, this color suits you," he says smiling.
"Thanks."
We greet each other with a kiss on the cheek and Lorenzo drives off to the mall. A famous song I like is playing on the stereo and I start to sing along, hearing Lorenzo singing soon after.
"Do you like it too?" I ask.
"I listen to that band almost every day," he replies.
"My dad says you're an amazing kid," I say and he laughs.
"And I say the same about you," he replies loudly over the car stereo.
We drive to the mall singing and only stop when Lorenzo turns off the car.
"Here we are," I say as I get out of the car.
"Which place do you want to go to first?" he asks.
"Do you like art?" Lorenzo nods, "We could go to an exhibition that's on every night here in this mall."
"Great, let's go!".
Lorenzo and I go to the exhibition space. I discover that he likes a lot of things, including minimalist images. I like minimalism, but I prefer things that are more expressive, like me, and like a good reader of fantasy and romance.
"I'm hungry", he says as we leave the exhibition, "Shall we eat now?".
"For me, yes. What do you think of Mexican food?".
"It's quite exotic, that taste of yours. You really have the soul of an American", he replies, "Mexican food like tacos?", Lorenzo suggests.
"Exactly tacos and Mexican paleta. Ever since I went to Mexico, I've fallen in love with these two typical foods. There's a Mexican restaurant on the fourth floor and it's very good, it really resembles Mexican food."
"Well, if you want to, then let's go. I've never tasted anything from Mexico, but everything has its first time."
"Now you've spoken my language, Lorenzo García," I say and he laughs.
We take the stairs to the fourth floor and enter the Mexican restaurant. The staff here wear real Mexican clothes, making everything even more interesting.
We place our orders and enjoy the Mexican cuisine. Lorenzo approved of the tacos and opted for a strawberry and chocolate paleta, which was also delicious. In the end, there was even a photo with a Mexican hat. I'm sure this photo will stay with him for the rest of his life.
"What do you think of cotton candy with the letter A on it?" he asks, as soon as we see a machine that makes cotton candy in any shape.
"I think it's wonderful, but only if you help me eat it".
"You don't even have to worry about that," Lorenzo replies and I laugh.
As soon as the machine hands us a pink cotton candy with the letter A on it, I'm the first to taste it. Lorenzo follows soon after and takes most of my cotton candy. We walk around the mall, chatting until my cotton candy runs out.
I was presented with a beautiful bracelet that Lorenzo sent me to choose. He bought it for me in a store I like and has already put it on my wrist so I can wear it often.
"I love it, Lorenzo! It's a beautiful bracelet!" I smile, looking at the silver bracelet on my wrist.
"You're welcome, Angel. This bracelet had to be yours, it looks like it was made for you."
"You're very kind," I say, as soon as we sit down.
"And you're a brilliant girl. Don't ever let your brilliance be extinguished," Lorenzo says, tucking a lock of my hair behind my ear.
His words move me and I remain silent. Our faces get closer and closer, until we start a super-quiet kiss that tastes like candy, more specifically cotton candy. Wonderful.
