To sit and listen how my mother was trying to rationalize her behavior in the restaurant was exhausting I think even the jury found it exhausting because there were video footage its not like she could deny anything but she was trying to explain to the jury that she wasn’t that person on the video footage, she was drove to be that person by my dad that didn’t want to pay for my sisters lawyers. The state prosecutor got her on that one, telling her that her reaction and shooting my father was actually the dumbness thing she could have done because now she and my sister is in jail, but at least they can keep each other company. It was a ruff day and tomorrow it’s my sisters turn to testify, why they wanted to speak I don’t know I mean they only making the hole bigger for themselves but I’m not going to worry about that tonight tonight I’m going to try and relax.
As we walked out of the court room my dad pulled me and Johnny to one side. “There is something I need to talk to you about.” I was really not in the mood. “Dad, can it wait till tomorrow I really just want to go home and relax.” “No Helen it’s something I should have told you already but I didn’t have the heart.” Oh, fuck what now? I thought. “Can I take you to that little Italian restaurant you like so much?” I looked at Johnny, because he had plans for us. “Yes, sure John.” Johnny said. My dad got in his SUV with his bodyguard and Johnny and I in ours. “Jared follow John we are going for dinner with him.” “I really really don’t want to Johnny.” “I know babe but if it is something important, I think we should go and find out what it is, let’s get all the stress out of the way because if we don’t go, you are going to wonder what he wanted to tell you.” “That’s also true.”
When we stopped at the restaurant the waiter took us to our normal table, yes, we are regulars here since I was a child, I’ve grown up with the owner’s children who is now running the restaurant. One of the sons came over to me and hugged me “Oh Bella I’m so sorry you are going through this.” “Thank you, Enzo.” He let go of me and greeted Johnny and my dad then he let Damon, Jared and my dad’s bodyguard sit at a table at the door, he already knows the routine but then I’ve always wondered if they were not part of the Mafia, when I was a child it was bazaar that I even thought about something like that I mean the Mafia ended with Capone but after meeting Romeo I know now the Mafia is definitely alive and active in all states. When Enzo left us alone, I actually spoke those words I never thought I will. I leaned into Johnny and asked him “Do you think Enzo is in the Mafia?” He looked at me in shock. “It is a possibility we should ask Jared and Damon.” “I was just wondering.” “No, it would be good to know.” My father looked at the two of us. “What are you whispering about?” “Oh nothing.” I said quickly, I needed my father to be in the dark about this part or am I being naïve thinking my father doesn’t know about the Mafia. I was totally in my head when my father ordered our meal when the waiter was gone, he said.
“Helen, I need to tell you something. I don’t know what your mother has told your sister so I have no clue what your sister is going to say on the stand tomorrow which means I need to tell you before she does.” I was shocked for a minute what on earth will my sister say that will shock me. “What dad? You make it sound very serious.” “Well, it is.” “Then tell me.” Johnny put his head in his hands “Do you know?” I asked him. He looked up but not at me he looked at my dad and said “I think I do.” “Now tell me dad what is going on?” My dad looked down like he was ashamed or something. “Antoinette is not my daughter.” He eventually said. “Wait what?” I asked in total shock. “You heard me angel, Antoinette is not my daughter.” There was a glass of wine standing in front of me which I just downed because it always looked like my father took Antoinette’s side in everything. When I put the glass down, I asked him “How long have you known?” “I suspected Antoinette’s whole life but I never asked.” “Dad you always took Antoinette’s side you never took mine; how can you do that?” “I felt sorry for her angel and I raised her as my own.” “When did you find out for sure she’s not yours?” “The day I met you at the restaurant.” I dropped my head thinking off all the times I got into trouble but it was Antoinette’s fault she ruined my whole life. “I’m sorry Helen I’m so sorry I should have looked out for you more there is no excuse for my behavior all I can say is I’m really sorry.” “Is that why you not helping her now?” “NO off course not, she crossed a line Helen she conspired to kill you. I would never have helped her not even if she was my biological child.”
I pushed my chair backwards making it screeched on the floor, Damon was next to me before I even got up. “I’m leaving.” Johnny got up to leave with me but I looked at him and said. “I’m leaving alone I need time to think.” “Babe, I didn’t know I promise.” “I know Johnny but enjoy dinner with my dad you are already here; Damon is going to take me home.” “Angel please I’m begging you stay.” “I can’t dad I need time to prosses this and I need time alone.” I saw Johnny looking at Damon telling him to take care of me without telling him. We got in the SUV Damon asked where he should take me and after I said home I just burst out in tears again. When is all this going to end?
