Chapter 58
Chapter 58
Alexander seized the moment when Scarlett was distracted and leaned in to kiss her again.
As he touched her wound, Scarlett winced in pain and tried to push him away.
But Alexander only held her tighter, their lips and tongues entwining, the tension between them growing more intense.
Wanting to punish her for her coldness, Alexander deliberately licked her injured lower lip.
Scarlett, always sensitive, began to cry under such treatment.
Her weak hands pressed against his abdomen, and in the brief moments when she could catch her breath, she let out pitiful moans.
The desire in Alexander's eyes burned fiercely.
Scarlett's alluring body was as intoxicating to him as a potent aphrodisiac. After their last encounter, he had been waiting for this moment for a long time.
His hand, which had been around her slender waist, moved down to her hips. He teased her with a playful squeeze, causing Scarlett to forget to moan and stiffen in his arms.
Scarlett remained clear-headed.
Not long ago, they had done this very thing.
But back then, the only thing between them was a secret she couldn't reveal.
Alexander didn't have Jessica as his fiancée yet, and she and Sebastian were only engaged in name.
Such intimacy and madness were permissible then.
But now, given their current situation, doing this in the dressing room after Evan's fashion show?
Scarlett's throat tightened.
She looked up, meeting Alexander's lust-filled gaze in the darkness, and decisively placed her right hand on his waist, giving a sharp twist.
Alexander was caught off guard.
One moment he thought he had her response, the next he was hit with a sharp pain in his waist.
He grunted in pain.
His grip loosened, and Scarlett immediately escaped, standing warily to the side and turning on the lights.
Alexander's eyes were dark and brooding as he stared at her.
Scarlett's throat felt tight.
She knew this mistake couldn't continue.
She had to cut it off quickly. "Mr. King, Uncle Alexander, what happened before is in the past. I don't have a taste for affairs with an elder. Let's just consider what happened before a mistake, okay?"
Scarlett didn't dare look into his eyes.
Unexpectedly, Alexander didn't explode in anger.
He was silent, as if struggling to digest this news.
Scarlett almost couldn't resist turning to look at him.
After a long while, Alexander suddenly laughed.
The sound was filled with self-mockery.
He asked quietly, "Scarlett, in your eyes, what does it mean to end up in bed with an an elder? What am I to you?"
Scarlett laughed too.
She tried to make her laugh sound frivolous. "Uncle Alexander, just because a man and a woman end up in bed together, does it have to be love?"
Alexander's eyes reddened.
Scarlett forced herself to harden her heart. "To me, you're an unforgettable fling. Uncle Alexander, you were right, you're great in bed. It was fun."
Alexander scoffed. "If it was fun, why not continue? Are you still dreaming of some true love act with Sebastian?"
"My business is none of your concern, Uncle Alexander," Scarlett retorted before answering, "Why not continue? Do you really not know?"
Alexander clearly saw the strange expression on her beautiful face.
He instantly understood what Scarlett meant.
Despite the turmoil inside, Alexander waited calmly for her to speak.
Scarlett tossed her hair. "I told you three years ago, I'm tired of it."
"No matter how good you are, two nights are enough to kill the novelty after three years."
With that, Scarlett turned and headed for the door, quickly leaving the room.
Once she closed the door behind her, her legs felt weak, barely able to walk steadily, needing to lean against the wall to leave quickly.
She couldn't stay there any longer.
Inside, Alexander remained standing, unmoving.
Three years later, he heard the same words from Scarlett's mouth.
Tired of it.
The impact of those words hadn't lessened in three years.
But three years ago, he had the strength to leave the country immediately. What about now?
He couldn't bring himself to let Scarlett go.
In the past three years, he had realized this problem, which was why he returned to Phoenix City.
But what could he do, loving a woman who was tired of him?
Alexander tilted his head back, closing his eyes in the light, feeling utterly lost.
Outside, Scarlett didn't expect to run into Jessica.
After leaving the room, her mind was focused on getting away quickly, fearing she might regret it and turn back, ruining everything.
She didn't even notice her direction or pay attention to others.
It was Jessica who called out to her. "Ms. Collins!"
Scarlett looked up blankly, seeing Jessica jogging over.
Seeing Scarlett's disheveled state, Jessica's expression changed. "What happened to you? Are you okay?"
Scarlett, though unsure how bad she looked, knew a woman with a cut lip and red eyes must look pretty miserable.
She shook her head, brushing it off lightly. "It's nothing, Ms. Green, don't worry about me."
Facing Jessica at that moment, Scarlett couldn't muster any energy to deal with her.
Just as she was about to leave, Jessica seemed to understand and asked teasingly, "Did Sebastian come by?"
Damn.
Scarlett felt a bit annoyed.
Jessica was closer to Emma, that was obvious.
If Jessica told Emma about her state, Scarlett could almost imagine Emma's reaction and the fuss she'd make, probably ending up on the trending news.
Even if Sebastian didn't criticize her, just having to go to the Black Mansion with him would be enough to drive Scarlett crazy.
Scarlett changed the subject, "Ms. Green... why are you here alone?"
She asked knowingly.
Jessica's interest in Alexander was clearly greater than Emma's, making it perfect to use Alexander to divert her attention.
As she spoke, Scarlett couldn't help but feel a pang of sadness.
She was using Alexander's name to fend off his fiancée.
Jessica indeed stopped pressing. "Alexander said he had something to discuss with Evan backstage. I saw he hadn't come out for a while, so I came to check. Have you seen him?"
"No."
The lie slipped out effortlessly.
It was Scarlett's instinctive reaction.
She looked back, pretending to think about the nearby rooms. "But I think Evan is still talking to someone."
"Oh, I see." Jessica nodded, "They must still be talking then."
Scarlett followed her lead. "Probably. Ms. Green, why don't you wait inside? I have something to do, so I need to go."
Just as she was about to leave, she noticed Jessica's dress.
Her brain seemed to act on its own, and she smiled, complimenting, "Ms. Green, your dress is beautiful today."
Jessica rarely looked shy. "Thank you, Alexander bought it for me."
Of course.
Scarlett's smile almost faltered. She pinched her palm hard, trying to stay clear-headed.
Wasn't this what she wanted to see?
Alexander had found someone better.
So why did she feel so reluctant to even smile?
