Chapter 55
Chapter 55
When you have something to look forward to, time seems to crawl.
Moira had lost count of how many times she had heard Scarlett's complaints, but finally, the long week was over.
It was Friday, and Evan's big show was about to start.
The tickets that Judy sent over, Scarlett didn't mention them to anyone. She simply arranged for Tammy to join them.
They had all supported Aria through her tough times, and now they were here to witness her rebirth and glory.
Tammy was actually quite nervous.
I mean, come on, this was the VIP section at Evan's show!
Sitting between wealthy socialites and fashion moguls, it felt like a test of nerves for any ordinary person.
She stuck close to the two bosses, not daring to relax for a second, afraid of doing anything that might damage the company's image.
Evan's setup was indeed grand.
The front row seats, a trio of them, must have been worth a fortune.
Each seat had a number corresponding to the invitation.
There weren't many people there yet, so they sat according to their numbers, chatting and waiting for the show to start.
As the time drew near, more people began to arrive.
Scarlett had been eagerly observing the crowd, but her excitement quickly turned to dread when she spotted a familiar figure.
Why was Alexander here?
She had no idea Alexander was interested in fashion shows!
Scarlett silently chanted, 'You can't see me, you can't see me,' but it seemed the gods weren't on her side. Despite her repeated prayers, Alexander walked over and stopped beside her.
Her mind raced, trying to figure out what Alexander was up to and how she should respond.
But before she could come up with a plan, Alexander shook out his coat and sat down.
Right next to her.
In that moment, Scarlett felt like the world had come to a standstill.
This show was going to be long.
Alexander had brought Jessica along, so there was no way they would leave halfway through.
Which meant she had to endure sitting next to Alexander for the entire show.
Who had arranged these seats?
"Ms. Collins, why are you keeping your head down? If you have a headache, there's a doctor backstage," Alexander said lazily, his tone dripping with sarcasm.
Scarlett had no choice but to look up, avoiding his gaze. "No need to trouble yourself, Mr. King."
The tension between them was palpable, and Moira noticed it, as did Jessica.
Jessica leaned over Alexander to greet Scarlett, her tone friendly. "Ms. Collins, you're here too."
Scarlett looked at her. "I knew with Ms. Green's taste, you'd be here today. And here you are."
Jessica beamed at the compliment, brushing her hair back playfully. "I'm only here because of Alexander."
She placed her hand on Alexander's arm, giving him a gentle nudge.
Scarlett's gaze fell on Jessica's dress.
She recognized it—it was one of Evan's prized designs.
So, Alexander's visit to Evan's place was for Jessica's dress today?
A wave of sadness washed over her, and she quickly lowered her eyes, her words a mix of praise and a warning to herself. "Ms. Green and Mr. King, truly a perfect match."
Jessica didn't argue, covering her mouth with a light laugh.
Alexander turned slightly, glancing at Scarlett with her head down, his emotions hidden behind a calm exterior.
A perfect match?
He never imagined he'd hear Scarlett use that phrase to compliment him and another woman!
When they were together, people often praised them, and Scarlett would always shake her head seriously, correcting them, "It's a perfect match of talents and looks!"
Then she'd pinch his face, laughing brightly, "I just like how handsome he is."
Alexander would pinch her back, "I like how beautiful you are too."
But it wasn't just that.
The sweet jokes from their time together now felt bitter.
When you're in love, everything is wonderful. But when the love is gone, being good-looking alone means nothing.
Three years had passed.
Scarlett still got lost in his face sometimes. They could still kiss, make love, like the closest of lovers.
But in her heart, there was no place for him anymore.
Sitting next to Alexander, Scarlett felt incredibly uneasy.
She thought she had come to terms with the fact that Alexander would have someone else by his side.
But actually sitting here, hearing Jessica's soft laughter, she felt restless.
Her heart raced, her breathing became difficult.
Scarlett suddenly stood up. "I need to step out for a moment."
She hurried away, and Moira quickly followed.
Tammy was left alone, awkwardly meeting Alexander's gaze.
Tammy forced a smile that looked more like a grimace and waved at Alexander. "Hi."
Alexander nodded in acknowledgment.
Tammy had just breathed a sigh of relief when Scarlett messaged her, asking her to switch seats and sit next to Alexander.
Thinking back to Scarlett's reaction when she left and the tension when they first met, Tammy guessed they must have had a disagreement.
As Scarlett's loyal employee, it was her duty to help ease her boss's troubles.
Tammy comforted herself as she stood up and, under Alexander's scrutinizing gaze, plopped down next to him.
Of course, you can't just switch seats randomly.
If she didn't say anything, it would be obvious that Scarlett didn't want to sit next to Alexander.
That wouldn't be good for Scarlett's future family harmony!
Tammy carefully spoke up. "Mr. King, what are you looking forward to in this show?"
As soon as the words left her mouth, Tammy wanted to bite her tongue.
Who talks like that?
Sure enough, Alexander didn't even lift his eyelids, his tone cold. "If you want an interview, schedule it with Mike."
They must have had a fight!
Not giving her any face at all.
But at least they were talking. Even if it was awkward, it showed she was there to chat!
Tammy adjusted her posture and sent Moira an "OK."
Moira, being straightforward, immediately transferred $2,000, calling it a bonus.
Tammy replied with a crying emoji and added: [Moira, I want to be your employee forever.]
The show was about to start, and Moira and Scarlett soon returned.
Alexander looked over, seeing the two of them one after the other, perfectly blocking Scarlett's figure.
Tammy still showed no intention of leaving.
Alexander had a vague suspicion.
Scarlett walked over and sat in Tammy's original seat, now two people away from him.
Her mood seemed better, and from his angle, he could see Scarlett's smiling eyes.
Alexander's hand clenched into a fist.
Had Scarlett come to hate him so much?
She couldn't even bear to sit next to him, needing to leave halfway through?
His expression grew darker as the music swelled around them, and he closed his eyes.
