Chapter 67 Chapter Sixty-Seven

Chapter 67 Chapter Sixty-Seven
Leilani’s smile falls. “What? No. You can’t leave dad. Not yet. I barely got to see you; you just got here. Can’t you at least stay the whole day. I have missed you so much.” She says, trying to talk Tiberius into staying.

Tiberius glances at me and back at Leilani. “I wish I could, but I have to get back to the hospital. It’s almost time for my next round of treatment.” He says.

That may not be a complete lie, but I know the main reason he is leaving is because of me. More specifically because me and Leilani are together, and there is nothing he can do about it. I just honestly never expected him to be this upset about us being mates. Shocked? Yes. A little angry? Yes. Wishing I had rejected Leilani? No. I never would have guessed that thought would even cross his mind. It just doesn’t make any sense to me.

Leilani looks at me helplessly and I wish there was something I could do. “It’s okay Angel. Your dad will be back soon to visit you. Isn’t that right Tiberius?” I ask out loud, using our mind link to give him the rest of my message. “Just because you are mad at me, doesn’t mean you should take it out on Leilani. She has been worried sick about you. So, stop acting like a damn child Tiberius. Put Leilani’s happiness over your own selfishness.”

Tiberius growls through our link. “Do not tell me how to raise my child Malakai, I don’t need you to tell me what to do.”

“Then do it.” I growl back through the link.

Tiberius looks at Leilani, forcing a smile. “I will come back as soon as I can to see you okay sweetheart? Until then make sure you take good care of yourself. Now that everyone knows you are a Legacy Wolf, there is a chance other packs will find out. That could be dangerous for you, and the pack. So, make sure you stay alert, do not let your guard down.”

Leilani nods her head. “Don’t worry dad. I will take care of myself, and Malakai will be here to protect me too. So, I will be okay. Just get better so you can come home. I love you so much.” She says, going over to pull her dad into a tight hug.

He wraps his arms tight around her. “I love you too Leilani. I am so proud of the young woman you are and the Alpha you are becoming.”
Tiberius kisses the top of her head and Leilani pulls back, coming back over to my side. “Travel safely Tiberius.” I say, looking at him a little differently than I used to. I used to have so much respect for him, after today though. I just don’t know anymore.

Tiberius doesn’t say anything in response, he just makes his to the door. He turns and gives Leilani one last smile before leaving the kitchen. Leilani hugs me tightly, burying her face in my chest. I rub her back, holding her close. “It’s okay baby. I got you.”

My phone rings and Leilani pulls back, letting me get my phone from my pocket. It’s Samina. “Hello.” I answer.

“Malakai, I wanted to invite you and Alpha Leilani over for lunch. I was going through some of my mother’s old journals, and I found some information about Legacy Wolves. I thought you and Leilani might want to come over to look over the journals.” Samina says into the phone.

“That would be wonderful. Thank you Samina. We will come over around noon, if that is a good time for you?” I ask, and Leilani furrows her brows at me.

“Of course, Malakai, see you guys then.” Samina says, right before she hangs up.

“Samina found some information about Legacy Wolves, she has invited us over for lunch at noon to go over it.” I say, answering the question Leilani didn’t even have to ask.

“Really?” Leilani asks, excitedly. “That’s great. Maybe we can learn more about my gifts.”

“Yeah, hopefully. I’m not sure exactly what kind of information she has, but it is definitely worth a look.” I say, smiling at her.

“Can we go now?” Leilani asks.

I chuckle. “It’s a little early Angel.”

Leilani laughs. “Not if we walk. It’s a beautiful day. We can get some fresh air, say hi to some of the pack members along the way. What do you think?”

I smile, leaning down to kiss her. “I think that sounds wonderful baby. We can go whenever you are ready.”

“I’m ready now.” She says, smiling.

“Then let’s go.” I say, taking her hand.

The walk to Samina’s house is relatively quiet and peaceful. The sun is shining bright and there aren’t many pack members out and about in our area. Once we get town though, all of that changes. There are lots of pack members out and about, going from shop to shop. I notice something strange as we walk through the center of town.

Some of the pack members greet Leilani with big smiles and good mornings. Some even congratulate Leilani on becoming the new alpha. Other members avoid eye contact, even crossing the street to get as far away from her as possible. At least that’s what it seems like anyway. I wonder if Leilani notices it too.

Samina’s house is just on the other side of town, right before we get there Leilani gives me a concerned look. “Were they avoiding me?” She asks.

I give her a soft smile. “I’m not sure sweetie.” Which is the truth, I don’t know for sure. If she thought they were avoiding her too, there is a good chance they were. I just don’t know why if they were. She is the alpha, and she is a Legacy Wolf. Those are not reasons to avoid her though. Everyone in this pack knows Leilani, they have known her since she was born. They all love her almost as much as I do. So, why would they avoid her?
