Chapter 90 It's A Girl
Chapter 90: It's A Girl!

Dianna.

Labor turned out to be far more exhausting than I ever imagined possible.

Unfortunately for Theodore, everything was going very right.

The doctors looked almost suspiciously pleased with my progress from the moment they wheeled me into the delivery suite. Every examination somehow ended with another approving nod while Theodore stood nearby looking increasingly horrified each time someone cheerfully informed him that things were “moving quickly.”

Apparently, quick labor sounded comforting only to people who were not actively experiencing it.

Meanwhile, my body had completely abandoned mercy.

Contractions came stronger and closer together with every passing hour until breathing through them became nearly impossible. Heat clung to my skin despite the cold temperature inside the room, and exhaustion slowly settled into every muscle in my body no matter how many times the nurses encouraged me to relax.

Relaxing felt like an offensive suggestion.

Theodore remained beside me through all of it.

Every second.

Every contraction.

Every emotional breakdown he quietly suffered beside my hospital bed.

At some point during labor, his neatly styled hair became completely ruined because he kept running nervous hands through it every thirty seconds.

His tie disappeared somewhere along the way, and one sleeve of his expensive dress shirt remained rolled unevenly toward his elbow because he had been too panicked to fix it properly afterward.

Meanwhile, I had reached the stage of labor where patience no longer existed.

Another contraction tightened sharply through my stomach, and I immediately grabbed Theodore’s wrist hard enough to make him tense.

“Breathe, Mrs. Callaghan,” one of the nurses encouraged gently.

“I am breathing,” I snapped.

The nurse smiled patiently.

Theodore looked torn between panic and admiration.

I turned toward him slowly.

“You.”

Theodore immediately straightened. “Yes?”

“This is your fault.”

He nodded without hesitation. “Absolutely.”

“I was living peacefully before you ruined my life.”

“I love you,” he reminded carefully.

“I regret everything.”

"No, you don't."

Another contraction hit before I could continue threatening him.

Pain tore sharply through my stomach hard enough that my eyes squeezed shut automatically while I gripped Theodore’s hand again.

Theodore visibly paled beside me.

One of the doctors checked the monitor calmly before smiling.

“Your progress is excellent,” she assured me. “You are handling labor beautifully.”

I stared at her in disbelief. “This is considered beautiful?”

Theodore leaned closer immediately, brushing damp hair away from my forehead carefully.

“You’re doing amazing,” he murmured softly.

“I hate your face right now.”

His expression softened ridiculously.

“I know.”

“And stop smiling at me like that.”

“I cannot help it.”

I narrowed my eyes suspiciously. “Why are you smiling?”

“You’re having our daughter or son,” he replied helplessly. “How am I supposed to act normal?”

“You should try suffering with me.”

“I would if I could.”

“That is easy to say when you are not pushing a human being out of your body.”

One of the nurses suddenly turned away very quickly, clearly hiding laughter.

Theodore looked genuinely apologetic afterward, which somehow only annoyed me more.

Another contraction came moments later.

I inhaled sharply while Theodore immediately grabbed my hand again like he personally intended to fight the pain himself.

“Okay,” the doctor instructed calmly. “The next contraction should help us start pushing soon.”

Theodore froze completely.

“…Soon?” he repeated weakly.

The doctor nodded.

His face lost color instantly.

Meanwhile, I suddenly understood genuine fear.

“No,” I said immediately.

The doctor blinked. “No?”

“I changed my mind.”

A few nurses laughed quietly.

Theodore looked alarmed. “Can she do that?”

“No,” the doctor replied calmly.

“This hospital has terrible customer service,” I muttered.

Another contraction hit hard enough that I nearly crushed Theodore’s fingers again.

He hissed quietly from beside me but stubbornly refused to let go.

At this point, I suspected he would willingly allow me to break every bone in his hand if it helped me feel better.

“Okay,” the doctor encouraged gently. “You’re almost there.”

I wanted to cry.

Theodore looked even closer to crying than I did.

Hours blurred strangely afterward.

Pain mixed with exhaustion until time itself stopped making sense. Nurses moved calmly around the room while monitors beeped steadily nearby. Theodore remained beside me through all of it, whispering encouragement every time another contraction hit hard enough to leave me breathless.

I glared at him weakly and said, “You will have a vasectomy.”

Theodore nodded immediately.

“Understood.”

“You say that now–”

Another contraction slammed through me violently.

I grabbed his collar hard enough to nearly choke him.

“You liar.”

Theodore looked emotional again.

“I love you too.”

I nearly threw a pillow at his face.

Finally, after another examination, the doctor smiled brightly.

“All right,” she announced. “You’re fully dilated.”

Theodore looked ready to collapse.

The nurses immediately began preparing the room while the doctor moved into position calmly.

Meanwhile, panic consumed me entirely.

“Wait,” I said weakly. “Already?”

The doctor nodded encouragingly.

“The baby is ready.”

Theodore inhaled sharply beside me like those words personally attacked him.

Another contraction hit immediately afterward.

“Okay,” the doctor instructed gently. “Push for me.”

Pain exploded through my body hard enough that I instinctively squeezed Theodore’s hand again while pushing with everything I had left.

Theodore made a deeply concerning sound beside me.

I barely noticed.

Everything became overwhelming afterward.

The pressure.

The pain.

The exhaustion clawing through every muscle in my body.

But through all of it, Theodore never left my side once.

Every time I opened my eyes, he was there immediately.

Holding my hand.

Another contraction slammed through me.

The pain hit with such force that the world narrowed down to nothing but heat, pressure, and the sound of my own breath breaking apart in uneven fragments. My fingers locked around Theodore’s hand again, refusing to let go even as my body trembled under the strain.

Theodore did not move away even once. He stayed exactly where he had been since the beginning, his presence unwavering despite the chaos unfolding around us.

His hand remained firmly in mine, grounding me through every wave of pain, while his other hand hovered near my shoulder as if unsure where to touch without making things worse.

“You’re almost there,” he repeated softly, voice strained but gentle as if he was trying to convince both me and himself. “Just a little more.”

I let out a shaky breath that turned into a broken laugh.

“You said that thirty minutes ago,” I managed to say through clenched teeth.

Before he could respond, another contraction surged through me, stronger than the last. My grip tightened involuntarily, and Theodore flinched slightly but did not complain. Instead, he leaned closer, pressing his forehead briefly against my temple as if anchoring himself there.

“Look at me,” he whispered.

I did not answer immediately, but my eyes found his anyway.

His expression softened instantly. It was the same look he gave me when words were no longer enough.

“You can do this,” he said quietly. “I am right here.”

The room seemed to fade around the edges after that. Even the voices of the medical staff blurred indistinctively as everything narrowed down to breath and pressure and the warmth of his hand in mine.

Then, suddenly, everything shifted.

The pressure changed. The intensity spiked for one final moment, so overwhelming that my entire body tensed before releasing all at once.

A second of silence followed.

A sharp inhale filled the room.

And then...

A cry.

The sound cut through everything instantly.

My eyes snapped open, vision blurred with tears I had not realized were falling. Theodore froze beside me, his grip still tight in mine as if he could not immediately comprehend what he had just heard.

“Congratulations Mrs. Callaghan, it's a girl!"
