Chapter 89 Stubborn Man

Chapter 89 Stubborn Man
Chapter 89: Stubborn Man

Dianna.

The final weeks of my pregnancy passed far more peacefully than I ever imagined possible.

After everything Theodore and I endured together, peace still felt strangely unfamiliar sometimes. There were moments when I would wake up in the middle of the night expecting another disaster waiting around the corner only to realize the mansion remained quiet, safe, and warm.

No more running away.

No more lies.

No more fear hanging over us every second of the day.

For the first time in a long while, life finally felt steady.

Grandma continued recovering beautifully inside the mansion, and her strength slowly returned day by day. Theodore made sure the entire estate remained lively enough to keep her entertained while also ensuring she never exhausted herself.

Meanwhile, I spent most of my days preparing for the baby’s arrival whether I wanted to or not.

Mostly because Theodore refused to stop buying things.

At this point, the nursery looked less like a child’s room and more like a luxury boutique specifically designed for one extremely spoiled infant.

Every week Theodore came home carrying something new.

Tiny blankets.

Custom-made cribs.

Stuffed animals taller than actual children.

And somehow, despite my repeated objections, more baby shoes.

The man genuinely believed our unborn child required formal footwear options before even learning how to walk.

That evening, rain poured steadily outside while soft music drifted through the mansion speakers. The weather carried calmness that made everything inside the house feel warm and sleepy.

I sat comfortably inside the living room with one hand resting against my stomach while organizing several folded baby clothes spread across the couch beside me.

My body felt heavier now compared to the previous months. Even small movements exhausted me faster than before, and my back constantly ached no matter how carefully I sat.

Still, despite the discomfort, I could not deny the excitement slowly growing inside me.

Our baby would arrive very soon.

The realization still felt surreal every time I thought about it too long.

Sometimes I caught Theodore standing quietly inside the nursery alone while staring at the crib with an expression so soft it almost hurt to look at.

Other times, I would wake up during the night only to find his hand resting protectively over my stomach while he slept beside me.

It amazed me how naturally Theodore loved our child already.

A dull ache suddenly stretched across my lower back that made me flinch.

I paused briefly.

Then another tighter pain followed immediately afterward.

My brows furrowed slightly.

Across the room, Theodore immediately looked up from the documents he had been reviewing.

Concern crossed his face almost instantly.

“What wrong?”

I sighed softly. “Nothing.”

Theodore narrowed his eyes suspiciously.

“You made a face.”

“I am carrying an entire human being inside me,” I replied tiredly. “I make faces constantly now.”

That explanation clearly failed to comfort him.

Within seconds, Theodore abandoned his paperwork completely before walking toward me and sitting beside me on the couch.

The exhaustion from work still lingered faintly beneath his eyes, but the moment he touched me, his entire posture relaxed.

His hand immediately found my stomach.

That habit never changed.

Every time Theodore came near me, his attention always drifted there first before anything else.

“How are my two favorite people?” he asked softly.

I glanced at him sideways. “You ask that every day.”

“And I deserve daily updates.”

“The baby kicked you this morning.”

“That was hours ago.”

A small laugh escaped me despite myself.

Thunder rumbled softly outside while rain continued tapping against the windows.

For a brief moment, everything felt calm enough that I almost forgot how close I already was to giving birth.

Then suddenly...

A stronger pain tightened low in my stomach.

My fingers immediately gripped the fabric of the blanket beside me.

Theodore noticed instantly.

“Dianna.”

I inhaled slowly through the discomfort. “I think I’m having another contraction.”

His entire body visibly stiffened.

For the past week, Theodore had been treating every contraction like a national emergency.

“How painful?”

“Manageable.”

“How manageable exactly?”

I stared at him. “Do you want numerical ratings now?”

“Yes.”

Before I could respond, another sharper contraction suddenly hit.

This time a quiet gasp escaped me before I could stop it.

Theodore’s face immediately lost color.

“Oh my God.”

“It’s fine.”

“No, it is absolutely not fine.”

“It literally is.”

But then suddenly...

Warmth spread beneath me.

I froze immediately.

Theodore noticed the change in my expression right away.

“What happened?”

I slowly looked down.

Then back at him.

“Theodore.”

His entire face paled instantly.

“My water broke.”

Silence filled the room for exactly one second.

Then Theodore completely lost his mind.

“THE BABY IS COMING.”

“Yes,” I replied weakly. “That generally happens afterward.”

“Do not joke right now.”

Meanwhile Theodore already jumped to his feet while panic visibly consumed him in real time.

“Call the doctor immediately.”

Several nearby staff members instantly rushed into motion.

“The car. Prepare the car now.”

“It’s already waiting outside, sir!”

“The hospital bag?”

“In the vehicle already!”

“Good.”

Another painful contraction tightened through my stomach before I could say anything else.

I closed my eyes briefly from the pain.

Theodore looked seconds away from a complete emotional breakdown.

Without warning, he suddenly bent down and carefully lifted me directly into his arms.

“Theodore.”

“You are not walking.”

“I physically still can.”

“That is irrelevant.”

I stared at him helplessly while he carried me across the mansion like the apocalypse itself had arrived personally at our doorstep.

Staff members immediately moved aside while Theodore continued issuing instructions nonstop without slowing down once.

Rain hammered loudly outside the mansion entrance by the time he carried me toward the waiting black car beneath the covered driveway.

One of the guards immediately opened the back door while Theodore climbed inside beside me without releasing me once.

Another contraction struck before the car even began moving.

Pain twisted sharply through my stomach hard enough that I instinctively grabbed Theodore’s sleeve tightly.

His eyes immediately snapped toward me.

“Hey,” he whispered quickly while brushing damp hair away from my face. “Look at me.”

I forced myself to focus on him despite the pain tightening through my body.

“You’re okay,” he said softly. “You and the baby are okay.”

His voice remained calm, but his hand trembled slightly against mine despite how hard he tried hiding it.

Theodore never let go of my hand during the entire drive.

Not even once.

By the time we arrived, an entire medical team already waited outside the private maternity entrance Theodore arranged weeks earlier.

Apparently he prepared for this moment with terrifying efficiency.

The moment the car stopped, several nurses immediately rushed forward with a wheelchair already prepared nearby.

Theodore ignored it entirely.

“I’ll carry her.”

“Sir, we can assist–”

“I said I’ll carry her.”

Nobody argued afterward.

Doctors and nurses quickly guided us through the private maternity wing while Theodore carried me the entire way like physically putting me down might somehow endanger me.

Another contraction hit harder than before.

I winced sharply.

Theodore’s expression immediately tightened.

One of the doctors gently attempted guiding him aside so they could examine me properly.

Theodore looked personally offended.

“I’m staying.”

“Sir, we need room to examine her.”

“You can examine her while I stand here.”

“Theodore,” I whispered in pain. "Leave the fucking room, you stubborn man!"
