Chapter 60

Chapter 60

I didn't understand.

Lucy was clearly upstairs, so why does James have to come here to humiliate me?

Lost in intense pain, I didn't notice the overwhelming agony surging in James's eyes!

He picked me up and strode to the bed.

I was thrown onto the bed, and his tall figure immediately pressed down on me.

"Anna, don't even think about escaping from me."

James warned me over and over in my ear while taking me.

I bit my lower lip hard, forcing myself to swallow the moans that were about to escape.

A chaotic night.

I don't even know when I lost consciousness.

When I opened my eyes again, it was already the next morning.

I stared blankly at the ceiling, unwilling to recall anything about last night.

I tried to get up, but as soon as I exerted myself, I gave up the next moment.

The soreness throughout my body silently reminded me of what happened last night.

The space beside me had long lost its warmth.

James must have left very early.

We used to sleep in each other's arms until dawn, but now does he hate me so much he can't stand the sight of me?

I pulled at the corners of my mouth mockingly.

How many days has it been since our relationship eased up?

And I was actually fantasizing that James would believe me.

How ridiculous!

I laughed, but tears uncontrollably burst from my eyes, spreading large dark patches on the pillow.

I don't know how long I lay in bed.

Victoria had already knocked on the door several times.

She wanted me to get up and eat something.

But after being tormented by James all night, I had no strength at all and didn't want to move.

It wasn't until even lunchtime had passed and I was starving that I forced myself to get up.

My body felt sticky.

Obviously, James left right after last night and didn't help me clean up.

Although I had expected this, when I actually realized it, my heart couldn't help but clench painfully.

After taking a bath in the bathroom, I carefully tidied myself up in front of the vanity mirror. Only after seeing the woman in the mirror who could barely be considered presentable did I go downstairs to eat.

I thought James and Lucy should have left already.

Who would have thought that while I was still on the stairs, I looked down and saw James and Lucy sitting on the sofa, leaning against each other.

Lucy was smiling sweetly, leaning on James's shoulder, holding a small plate of cut fruit, and feeding it to James with a small fork.

James looked calm and opened his mouth to eat.

Watching their interaction, I just felt sick to my stomach.

Just as I was about to turn back to my room, James called out coldly, "Where are you going? Planning to starve yourself to death? Then Mom will soon go down to join you."

A blatant threat!

My face turned pale inch by inch, and my steps to leave stopped abruptly.

Lunch was lavish.

After Victoria set out the lunch, she didn't dare say much and just stayed in the kitchen.

She stood at the kitchen door, occasionally sending me looks, signaling me to eat well and not to confront James head-on.

I sat upright at the dining table, my whole body stiff beyond measure.

Heartache and irritation made me unconsciously bite my lower lip.

Soon, a strong, bloody taste filled my mouth, but I didn't notice at all.

"Mrs. Smith, you're already very thin. If you don't eat, your body won't be able to take it."

Lucy leaned on the back of the sofa, her head intimately resting against James, looking at me with a concerned expression.

Disgust surged in my heart. I glanced at Lucy expressionlessly and didn't speak.

Even if I really starved to death, I wouldn't need Lucy's fake sympathy!

What I didn't expect was that even though I didn't say anything, Lucy acted as if she had received a huge fright, throwing herself into James's arms with a pale face.

She choked up, "James, did I say something wrong? I feel like Mrs. Smith really hates me. Maybe I should just go back? I'm not really welcome here."

This fake, affected manner was too obvious!

Surely James can tell how fake and affected this is, right?

The moment this thought popped into my head, I met James's cold, indifferent gaze.

Before he even spoke, my heart couldn't help but skip a beat.

"Anna, who are you putting on this dead face for? Hurry up and eat! Looking half-dead like that, it's killing my appetite!"

James's words came crashing down on me, making my heart turn completely cold!

I took a deep breath, trying my best to ignore James's sharp, piercing gaze, and looked down at the table.

There wasn't a single dish I liked.

And I'm allergic to eggs.

Every dish on the table had eggs in it.

James did this on purpose.

This petty man!

"Why aren't you eating? I especially asked Victoria to prepare an egg feast. Eggs go with everything, taste good, and have high nutritional value. I love eating eggs, and you're so thin, you really need to eat more!"

Lucy spoke with a smile, her voice full of concern.

The more she acted like this, the more it was a provocation to me.

I glanced at her coldly and picked up my utensils.

Allergic to eggs? Then just pick out the eggs and eat some side dishes to get through this meal.

Otherwise, who knows how long we'd be stuck here?

Even though I picked very carefully.

There would still be bits mixed in with the vegetables.

"Mrs. Smith, you should still try it. Eggs are really delicious. Don't dislike eating them just because eggs aren't expensive."

Lucy "kindly" advised me.

I couldn't help but marvel internally—truly worthy of being an actress, so good at acting!

Those who didn't know might really think she meant well.

James looked at me impatiently, "I think you're just too spoiled. What are you picking them out for? Don't pick them out."

My movements paused. For a moment, I didn't know whether to feel sorry for myself or disappointed in James.

He knows I'm allergic to eggs.

When we used to go out to eat together, James would carefully confirm with the staff not to add eggs to the food, not even a bit.

But now, to make Lucy happy, he's actually forcing me to eat them?

I never thought James would have a day when he'd make me eat eggs.

An indescribable sense of grievance surged up, and I couldn't help but tear up.

He knows very well I'm allergic to eggs.

Even just touching a little bit would make my whole body itch and break out in red rashes.

If I ate all these eggs...

James's gaze fell on me, a trace of reluctance flashing in his eyes.

Lucy raised her eyebrows imperceptibly and said in a sweet voice, "I heard that if you're allergic to something, you don't actually need to be too nervous. You just need to slowly expose yourself to it to build up tolerance, and maybe you won't be allergic anymore in the future. James, why don't we let Mrs. Smith try? It's for her own good."

She paused, then added, "Besides, I'm really curious if this theory is true!"

When Lucy looked at James, the anticipation in her eyes stung mine.

My heart hung in suspense.

Before I could refuse, James spoke first, "So curious? Then let her try."

He stared at me coldly, "Eat some."

I gripped my utensils tightly, suppressing the urge to dump these dishes on their faces!

The dining room fell into a deathly silence.

After hesitating, I still didn't eat the eggs, but looked at James with one last bit of hope in my heart.

Maybe he doesn't remember I'm allergic.

My voice was very soft, "James, I'm severely allergic to eggs."
