Chapter 215 Dead
Heaven thrashed beneath her. Her nails scratched Eva’s face and hands, but she didn’t budge. Her feet scattered the earth wildly. She could no longer breathe. Her chest burnt, her vision went blurry, her eyes turning red. She felt her body begin to weaken.
“Die, bitch!!!” Eva screamed and laughed like a maniac.
“You know the difference between you and I? I have nothing to lose, while you do.” Her words woke something in Heaven. She was right; she had her twins and her son to fight for.
She used Eva’s trick against her; she scooped a handful of sand and poured the contents into Eva’s eyes.
“Fuck!!” Eva cursed and loosened her grip on her neck.
Heaven dropped to her knees, coughing violently, dragging in air. Her face burned red as oxygen rushed back into her lungs. She suddenly felt a sharp pain shoot through her waist.
“Hold on, please… mama will get you both out of here,” she whispered, holding her stomach.
Eva noticed. “Are you pregnant, perhaps?” she asked in glee. “I’m loving this.” Her eyes moved to the gun; Heaven’s eyes followed too. They both went for it at once.
Liam was bleeding badly. Each step he took sent sharp pain through his legs, slowing him down. “Liam, there’s light, see!” Havilah pointed at the lights in the distance.
Liam tried harder for his mama. They moved further; the security light from the chopper shone in full. Havilah spotted him first. “Daddy? Liam, daddy!” she shouted in relief.
“Havilah, go get him. You can run faster right now, but I can’t.”
“Liam, you will be alone…” she said.
“I’m a big boy… be brave and go.”
Havilah ran as fast as she could so she could get help for Liam.
“Daddy!” Havilah kept calling as she ran.
She fell down and scraped her hand. She wanted to cry, but Liam said to be brave. She got up and continued.
The chopper light locked on her. “One kid located. 2 PM, current location.”
Maverick heard through the earpiece he had over his ears; so did the others. He moved in a full sprint until his eyes locked on the small figure.
Havilah.
He reached her and hugged her tightly. Havilah was shivering in his arms.
“Daddy, Liam is hurt…” she said, crying. “His leg… he is over there…”
“Baby, I will go get Liam. Could you stay with your aunty?”
She nodded. Immediately, Maverick handed her over to Bianca; she passed out.
Maverick got to Liam; he was already pale. His heart squeezed painfully. “Daddy… mama needs help…” was the first thing he said in his arms.
Heaven tossed the gun aside. Eva smacked her hard across the face. “Give up already… you think you have a chance over me? None of us are going to get him.”
Heaven gritted her teeth as another pain shot through her stomach. She held her stomach, forcing herself to stand upright.
“I don’t fight for a man,” she said, her voice shaking. “I fight for my kids.”
Eva smiled coldly. “Let’s see how you protect them from me.” She lunged for Heaven’s stomach. Heaven braced herself; she would protect them with everything she had.
A bright light reflected over them. The sound of choppers rang in their ears. Maverick was here. Heaven sighed in relief.
Red dots from guns were all targeted at Eva.
“Fuck!!!” Eva cursed. She raised her hands in the air.
“We found them, sir, at the northern part of the resort,” Maverick heard through the earpiece. He sighed in relief.
“I will go get mama,” he told Liam as he handed him to the medics.
A rope was thrown down from the chopper. Three soldiers began to slide down.
One male soldier put handcuffs on Eva’s hands. “You are under arrest. You have the right to remain silent. Whatever you say or do will be used against you in a court of law.”
“Ma’am, are you okay?” they asked Heaven, but she was too shaken to give a reply.
A female soldier approached, draping a warm blanket over her. There was intel of her being pregnant. “Ma’am, do you feel pain anywhere?”
“Liam… my son?” she managed to choke out.
“He is safe, with his father,” the female soldier said.
Then she saw Maverick running towards her. All damn broke loose; her shoulders shook.
“Ma-ve…” she whispered, and her legs moved. The blanket fell off her shoulders.
Maverick’s heart clenched at the sight of her face stained with blood and mud, the redness of her neck, and her bloodied hand pressing protectively over her stomach.
Eva stood, anger burning in her eyes. She couldn’t get locked up. She didn’t want to go down alone, not after everything she did to get here.
The soldier who was guarding her was distracted on the phone, his back turned to her.
She moved slowly towards him. In one swift motion, she grabbed the gun off his waist and fired the shot.
Maverick had already reached Heaven when he heard the sickening boom. Then he felt something warm soak his hand that was placed protectively on her lower back. His whole world fell apart when she collapsed on him.
“Heaven!” he roared.
“Drop the gun now!!” the soldiers roared. The pointers were locked on her again.
Eva’s eyes were laced with satisfaction; a smug smile tugged at her lips. She burst into laughter, so hard that her eyes watered.
Her eyes locked on Maverick. He never once looked at her—not when he walked in and not even when she fired the shot. She turned the gun to her head. “Maverick!” she screamed his name.
His eyes flicked up briefly.
“In my next life, I will still love you till the end of my days.”
She pulled the trigger.
Her body dropped to the floor, her eyes remained open, locked on Maverick as life left them.
Silence followed, but Maverick didn’t hear it.
“I’m sorry… I came late…” his voice broke as tears slid down his face. “It’s my fault… please don’t leave me… not like this…”
Heaven’s lashes fluttered weakly. Her chest rose and fell slowly.
“M-Mav…” she whispered.
“I’m here. I’m right here,” he said quickly, cupping her face. “Look at me… stay with me…”
She lifted her trembling hand slowly; her fingers brushed his cheek. She wiped at his tears weakly, as if it cost her everything just to move.
“I l-love you…” she whispered.
Blood spilled from her lips.
Maverick shook his head, panic consuming him. “No… no, tell me that later, okay?”
“I…m sleepy… Mave.”
“You can’t sleep just yet… I am getting you help, do you hear me?”
Her grip on his face weakened.
“T-take care of Liam…” she breathed.
“I don’t know how!” he broke. “I don’t know how without you, Heaven—teach me… please, just—stay and teach me… for the sake of the twins…”
He touched her stomach.
Her lips parted like she wanted to say something more… but no words came. Her hand slipped away from his cheeks.
He caught it quickly, gripping it tight.
“Heaven…?”
Her chest rose and fell slowly. Then her eyes closed.
“No… no, no, no…” Maverick shook his head, his grip tightening around her. “Heaven, stay with me—stay with me!”
He pulled her closer, his voice breaking into something raw and agonizing.
“HEAVEN!!”
