82- Trick

Sebastian

As I bathed the streets in the blood of my enemies, Dante followed by my side, showing a side I had never seen before. His determination made me see him from another angle and he earned some respect from me for it. It's strange being with him side by side, since we've always kept a great distance, he's just in the way, so I've always left him out of anything to avoid unnecessary headaches.

\- Are you sure it's okay to kill people like that? - he asks.

\- Don't worry, there's a clean-up crew taking care of everything. Most of these men are petty criminals, the big ones already have their hands full with some legal issues that I've prepared in advance, of course, they know that I started this and that the fate of those who go against me is death. - I explain in a smug tone.

I've already thought of everything, I've divided my men into three different groups and I've started the operations, we've already taken down some clubs and small cartels that Josh runs and we're going to get him now, we've been at it all night, it's not long before dawn and I just want to go home and hold Rebeca in my arms. Ward is taking care of all communication and Rebecca's security, as well as a dozen of my men, the rest came with me and Walter, we still have Rebecca's family who are supporting us too. We're scattered all over the city and destroying everything Josh commands, weakening his power until it's just him and no one else.

We broke into Josh's house leaving a trail of blood behind, the staff were spared, but those who raised their weapons or tried to sabotage us in some way were not so lucky. We entered the house until we were in front of Josh's office. We opened the door carefully and found him drinking inside, his expression wasn't good and he just gave us a brief look and took a sip of whisky straight from the bottle.

What the fuck, is he drunk at a time like this?

I was hoping for something a bit more exciting than that.

\- You killed my mother, you bastard. - Dante advances recklessly towards him, I thought it might be a trap, but Josh didn't care about the gun to his head and just continued to stare into the glass.

\- They're dead. - he mutters.

\- Who's dead? - I ask curiously.

\- Hannah and her mother. They're both dead. - he says.

\- Did you kill them too? - Dante asks disgusted by the man.

\- No. Hannah freaked out for no reason and killed her mother and then killed herself, I found them both dead earlier today. It's ironic, I killed your mother because she no longer served me, she lost her power and you're just an idiot, but, look, I have power, but I can't take advantage of it because I'm completely alone. - he mocks himself.

He's drunk, but he doesn't seem to be lying.

His condition is deplorable.

His only son died years ago in a car accident in an illegal race, after which Josh turned his attention to Hannah, he wanted to marry her off to someone of great influence, who would help him gain more power, so he saw the fact that Anastasia was my stepmother as an opportunity. Now he's lost everything.

For no apparent reason, he starts laughing loudly until he gets up and throws the bottle at the wall. His eyes are full of madness, and they don't focus on any specific place, as if he were looking at the whole world in a single second.

\- It's all the Lucian family's fault. Starting with Marcus, he disrupted all my plans, stole the woman I loved, his mother, Sebastian. She should be alive and by my side now, but your damn father stole her from me, I hate him so much, I hate all of you. - hiss.

\- I have nothing to do with your family shit. - I reply and he starts laughing again while pointing a finger at me.

\- You'll soon know how I feel. I sent assassins to your beautiful wife, Anastasia gave me a blueprint of that house with access to a secret passage that you don't even know about. She must be dead by now. - He laughs openly and I realize that his words are no joke.

Because it's an old house, there are some secret passages, internal corridors that connect some rooms, but I've never heard of one that leads to the outside of the house.

If he's serious, Rebeca could be at great risk.

\- Take care of this bastard, I'm coming back now. - warning.

\- Enjoy the surprise I've prepared for you! - the bastard shouts, pleased with my reaction.

He knew how I felt about Rebeca and he used that. It seems I wasn't the only one planning things in secret.

I tried to reach Ward, but the call didn't go through, Rebeca's cell phone was also disconnected and with every attempt I made to contact one of them, I got more nervous about the failure of the call.

Something must have happened.

Wait, my love, I'm coming.

I drove as fast as I could through the city's chaotic traffic and when I arrived at the mansion, I realized that something was wrong when I reached the gate. There was no one around and I grabbed my gun immediately, on high alert, got out of the car right there and walked slowly across the lawn, using the darkness as camouflage to protect myself and not be surprised. Whoever Josh hired, they're good at what they do. The closer I got to the house, the more I found dead bodies of my men and a few strangers here and there, the front door was open and I found Vincent shot right at the entrance, lucky for me, he was still conscious.

\- How many men are there? - I asked objectively when his eyes focused on me.

He's in a bad way, he can't talk much, I need to collect something useful.

\- About thirty men. - He murmured quietly and painfully, his breathing erratic.

I took off my jacket and pressed the wound on his abdomen.

\- Take this and hold on tight, the reinforcements won't be long. - warning.

I got up and sent a message to Walter telling him what had happened and that he should come back urgently with a competent medical team.

I go upstairs and find more dead men, there are about fifteen dead enemies I've found so far, that means there could still be half of them around the house, I have to be quick and careful and find Rebeca soon, I'm getting more and more distressed and I feel anxious with every step closer to the bedroom, until I hold the handle and slowly open the door, the first thing I see is a huge bloodstain on the bed and what looks like a body curled up.

No.
