Chapter 28 Chapter: 28
ADDISON
I sigh with relief when the guys on the bike take off their helmets, and I realize it was Cole, Asher, Trick, and Nathan. Of course, how could I have forgotten they rode bikes to the track?
Doors slammed open and closed as the people in the two vehicles stepped out, startling me from my observation.
Blondie, Black-eyes, and four more guys stepped forward towards Shepherd, who met them head-on, blocking my view of what was going on.
Okay, I’d reluctantly listen to Shepherd and put on the car safety lock. I don't know what is going on, but I could sense the brewing tension like a hound to blood.
There was no audio to match the visual as the guys all began to argue. Black eyes must have said something that pissed off Shepherd because in the next breath, he slammed his fist against the guy, straight on his face.
Then everything exploded.
My heart palpitates as a fight breaks out right in front of me. Shepherd and his gang of friends fight against the strangers, punching each other.
Shepherd lunged forward, fist slamming into Black-eye’s jaw with a hard crack, the guy's head whipping to the side. He staggered but didn’t fall and slammed his fist against Shepherd's face.
Shepherd grinned darkly, licked the blood from his split lips, and then they collided with each other, fist flying. Shepherd drove his knee into black-eye’s ribs.
Behind them, chaos ensued.
Cole slammed Blondie into their own car, both punching and grunting.
Someone yelled and cursed, feet kicked out, elbows drove into ribs.
Asher and Nathan were already dealing with two men; Cole and Trick were also dealing with two men. My eyes frantically flick between the boys, even as I wonder what the hell I've gotten myself involved in.
I watched as the sixth guy sneaked up on Shepherd from behind, just as Shepherd grabbed Black-Eye's collar as he punched him, over and over, until his lip split open.
Black eyes somehow managed to roll Shepherd down as he fought back, punching. The sneaky guy has joined in; my heart lurches with fear as they kick and punch, trying to keep him down.
Shepherd managed to stand. He spat out blood, his face filled with so much anger, so much rage. When the sneaky guy tried to attack him, he quickly grabbed his hand and twisted it, then he headbutted him. The guy yelled as he went down.
Shepherd followed him. He was brutal and unforgiving as he punched him over and over again.
Fear so thick nearly choked me as the black-eyed man who had rushed back to his car was suddenly back with a big knife.
Shepherd was still busy beating the shit out of the other guy that he hadn't noticed the one coming towards him from behind.
My eyes flick all around at the others who were still fighting, kicking, and punching like it was World War III.
Frantic, I looked all around inside the car. I don't even know what I was looking for, but I need something… anything to stop this craziness.
When I didn't see anything, I slid down the window. “Shepherd!” I screamed. “Watch out, he has a knife.”
Frustrated beyond belief and so damn scared. “Shepherd behind you! Knife!!”
I didn't think he heard me. “Fuck this shit, Addison, you dumb bitch,” I swore, unlocking the car. For the final time, I checked the center console.
My eyes bulge impossibly big when I see a gun—a freaking real-to-god gun, in Shepherd's car.
Despite my shock, I didn't have time to ask questions about why a teenage boy had a freaking gun. I grab it and jump out of the car just as black eyes reach Shepherd.
He tried to stab him, but somehow Shepherd had sensed him; he turned in the nick of time, kicking his legs under him as he rolled away.
The asshole didn't give up, he followed Shepherd as they both stood up, Shepherd dodged while black-eye flips the knife expertly, trying to cut him.
I didn't think of the consequences of shooting in public or what would happen to me if the cops got here. Besides explaining where I got the gun, it is what will get us all into trouble.
I just put the gun safety off and pulled the trigger, my hand up in the air. Everything just ceased.
All the chaos, the shouts, the cursing as all eyes were suddenly on me.
“You're going to let Shepherd and my friends go, or the next bullet I fire will go into him,” I threaten, pointing my gun on black-eyes.
My hand trembled, and my heart was pounding like crazy. As I met Shepherd's gaze, he looked at me with such intensity that I had to look away.
For the longest seconds, no one moved, pissed, I pulled the trigger again, firing just a foot or two from black-eyes feet.
Oh my god! I almost shot him!
“Fucking move it! Leave now before I fucking lose it and shoot your asses,” I warn, despite my nerves.
Inside, my stomach was tied in knots, sweat slid down my back and underneath my arms, and my hand was shaking so bad.
Firing a gun looks so cool in a movie, that I never thought about the pressure needed.
They all parted from each other, their eyes alert as they gave each other space, still panting from exertion.
Eyes narrowed, faces bloody, some lips split, others have cut brows and broken noses. I fire another shot.
“Get on with it! You have two minutes to leave.”
“You're a bossy little thing, aren't you?” Black-eyes asked, grinning, before raking his eyes all over me, then he licked his split lip.
I tried not to squirm, but the way he was staring at me made me uncomfortable. Shepherd, who was already on his feet, glared at him hard.
“Don't fucking look at her like that,” he growled, clearly about to start another fight.
“Chill, man, I see why you're with the new chick, she's hot,” Blondie growled, shoving Cole out of his way as he walked. “Next time she won't be here to save your asses.”
Cole laughed. “You're right, next time she won't be here to save your asses, because let's not pretend you never stood a chance against us.”
“It's not every day you get lucky, Zero,” Black-eyes gritted. “I'm going to make you pay for what you did next time.”
“Fucking bring it on, asshole,” Shepherd growled. “I assure you not even your knife will save you from me, coward.”
Blondie spat a mouthful of bloody saliva on the ground. As he neared Shepherd, both of them put him in the middle.
Shepherd's eyes were fixed on me as though he wasn't worried about both assholes trying to jump him. But I was, my finger hovering over the trigger.
I realized it wasn't that Shepherd wasn't prepared; he was. His muscles were taut with tension, and when Blondie stopped near him, whispering something.
Everything stopped still for a split second, then, as though they all didn't care that I was holding a freaking gun, they lunged towards each other, about to go at it again.
I didn't think I just fired a third shot, just as a siren wailed in the distance.
Suddenly, everyone snapped into action. Shepherd rushed towards me, he took the gun from me, grabbed my hand, and we both jumped into his McLaren.
Cole, Nathan, Asher, and Trick were already on the move. We all powered our respective vehicles and shot onto the road, both groups taking a different route as we hightailed it out of there.
