Chapter 70: Do Something, Anything

The atmosphere outside the mansion was fraught with tension, a palpable sense of danger hanging thick in the air. Adam and Lucas stood with their backs pressed against the stone façade, their muscles tense, and their senses on high alert. Before them, Seth and his armed forces formed a menacing line, their weapons trained on the two men with chilling precision. Seth, a sinister grin etched across his face, paced back and forth before Adam and Lucas like a predator toying with its prey. His eyes gleamed with malice as he relished the power he held over them, reveling in the fear he could see simmering beneath their stoic facades.

“You know, boys.”, Seth began, his voice dripping with contempt, “I always knew you were weak. But I never thought you’d be stupid enough to go to the border.”

Adam’s jaw clenched, his nostrils flaring with restrained anger at Seth’s taunts. He exchanged a quick glance with Lucas, silently communicating their shared determination to weather whatever storm Seth intended to unleash upon them. This gave Adam some relief, knowing that Lucas had more issues keeping his anger inside.

“What is it that you want, Seth.”, Adam ignored his taunt, keeping his voice low and firm.

Seth’s smirk widened, his eyes dancing with sadistic delight as he soaked in Adam’s defiance. “You’re just collateral damage, that’s for sure.”, he sneered. “You see, I have a message for your precious Alpha. And I intend to deliver it personally.”

With a subtle nod from Seth, his men tightened their grip on their weapons, the click of safeties being disengaged adding a chilling undercurrent to the already tense atmosphere. Adam and Lucas shared a silent, knowing look, steeling themselves for whatever was to come.

“Sebastian!”, Seth’s voice boomed, slicing through the stillness of the air like a blade. “Come out, come out, wherever you are. Your little friends here are getting antsy, and I’d hate to have to put them out of their misery.”

Sebastian, hidden safely within the confines of the mansion, felt a surge of adrenaline course through his veins at the sound of Seth’s taunts. He knew he needed to tread carefully, to buy himself time to formulate a plan that would ensure the safety of his packmates.

“Seth.”, Sebastian’s voice echoed from within the mansion, steady and composed despite the turmoil raging outside. “What do you want?”

Seth’s grin widened into a malevolent smirk as he heard Sebastian’s voice, relishing the opportunity to engage in their twisted game of cat and mouse. “Ah, there you are.”, he jeered, his tone dripping with sarcasm. “I was starting to think you’d chickened out, Alpha.”

Sebastian clenched his fists at his sides, his patience wearing thin as he fought to keep his composure in the face of Seth’s provocations. He knew he needed to remain level-headed, to keep his emotions in check if he had any hope of outmaneuvering his adversary. “I’m here.”, Sebastian replied, his voice steady and unwavering. “What do you want?”

Seth’s smirk widened into a grin again, his eyes alight with twisted amusement as he savored the tension hanging heavy in the air. “Oh, nothing much.”, he quipped, his tone laced with mockery. “Just a little chat, man to man. Or should I say, Alpha to wannabe?”

Sebastian gritted his teeth at Seth’s jab, his fists trembling with suppressed fury at the insult to his authority. He knew Seth was trying to goad him, to elicit a reaction that would give him the upper hand. But Sebastian refused to give him the satisfaction.

“What do you want, Seth?”, Sebastian repeated, his voice a low, dangerous rumble.

Seth’s grin widened into a smirk, his eyes glinting with malicious intent as he continued to toy with Sebastian’s patience. “Oh, nothing much.”, he repeated, his tone dripping with disdain. “Just to see the look on your face when I tell you what I will do to your precious pack.”

Sebastian’s blood ran cold at Seth’s words, a surge of panic coursing through him at the thought of his packmates coming to harm. He knew he needed to stay focused, to find a way to defuse the situation before it escalated any further.

“Tell me.”, Sebastian demanded, his voice a steely edge of determination. “What will you do?”

Seth’s laughter echoed through the forest, a chilling sound that sent a shiver down Sebastian’s spine. “Oh, you’ll see soon enough, Alpha.”, Seth taunted, his voice laced with malice. “But let’s just say, your little friends here are in for a world of pain.”

As Seth’s words hung heavy in the air, a cold dread settled over Sebastian. His mind raced with possibilities, each one more terrifying than the last. He knew he needed to keep Seth talking, to buy time and assess the situation before it spiraled out of control. “What do you want, Seth?”, Sebastian repeated, his voice steady despite the turmoil roiling within him. “Why are you doing this?”

Seth chuckled darkly, his eyes glinting with malevolent amusement as he paced before Adam and Lucas. “Why, isn’t it obvious?”, he replied, his voice dripping with disdain. “I want what’s rightfully mine. I want control over this pack back. And with you out of the picture, I will also get your money.”

Sebastian’s brows furrowed in confusion, a sense of foreboding gnawing at him. “What are you talking about? You called me to hand it over!”, he asked, his voice laced with surprise.

Seth stopped pacing and turned to face Sebastian, a predatory gleam in his eyes. “You’re too soft, Sebastian.”, he sneered. “Too weak to lead. An Alpha needs to be ruthless and decisive. Not be distracted by fucking men in their ass. Or be distracted by domestic quarreling. And I intend to prove that I’m the one who deserves to be in charge.”

Sebastian’s heart pounded in his chest, a surge of adrenaline coursing through him as he processed Seth’s words. He knew he needed to thread carefully, to find a way to diffuse the situation without putting his packmates in further danger.

“You don’t have to do this, Seth.”, Sebastian pleaded, his voice tinged with desperation. “We can find a way to resolve our differences without resorting to violence.”

Seth’s laughter echoed through the clearing, a chilling sound that sent a shiver down Sebastian’s spine. “Oh, I’m afraid it’s too late for that, Alpha.”, he replied, his tone dripping with malice. “The time for talk is over. Now, it’s time for action. My allies were appalled by your refusal to work with them. So, they want me back.”

Sebastian’s mind raced as he searched for a way out of the increasingly dire situation. He knew he couldn’t let Seth harm Adam and Lucas, couldn’t afford to let his packmates suffer. With a sense of grim resolve, Sebastian met Seth’s gaze head-on, his mind continuing to work overtime to devise a plan that would ensure their survival, but nothing came to him.

Adam and Lucas, sensing the tension mounting between Sebastian and Seth, exchanged a worried glance. They knew Sebastian was trying to keep Seth distracted, to buy them time to figure out their next move. But they also knew that Seth was growing more agitated by the second, his trigger finger itching to unleash chaos upon them.

Sebastian kept his gaze upon Seth’s as he slowly began to edge closer to the menacing figure before him. He knew he was risking everything by confronting Seth head-on, but he also knew he needed to do something. Preferably something that Seth wasn’t expecting.

And then, just as the situation seemed on the brink of erupting into chaos, a sudden rustling of leaves beneath someone’s feet shattered the stillness of the night. All eyes turned toward the source of the sound.
