Chapter 55: Tender Care

Sebastian, Lucas, and Adam sat on the edge of the bed, their gazes fixed on Enora as she lay resting against the pillows. The room was bathed in a soft, warm light, casting a gentle glow over the scene. Enora looked up at them, a small smile playing on her lips as she took in the concern etched on their faces. “How are you feeling, Enora?”, Sebastian asked softly, his voice filled with genuine concern.

Enora sighed softly, shifting against the pillows as she spoke. “I’m feeling a little better.”, she replied, her voice tinged with exhaustion. “But I still feel a bit weak.”

Lucas reached out, gently taking her hand in his as he spoke. “You need to rest, Enora.”, he said firmly, his eyes locking with hers. “We’ll take care of everything.”

Enora nodded in agreement, knowing that arguing with them would be pointless. She settled back against the pillows, allowing herself to relax into their comforting presence. Sebastian, Lucas, and Adam exchanged a glance, a silent understanding passing between them. They knew that Enora needed their support now, and they were determined to be there for her.

The next morning, Enora woke up feeling refreshed and rejuvenated, the lingering effects of the wolfsbane fading away. She stretched and yawned, feeling grateful for the care and attention she had received from Sebastian, Lucas, and Adam. But as she moved to get out of bed, she was met with resistance from the three men who hovered around her, their expressions filled with concern.

“No, Enora.”, Lucas said firmly, his voice tinged with worry. “You need to stay in bed. We’ll take care of everything.”

Enora sighed in frustration, knowing that they were only trying to protect her. She settled back against the pillows, resigned to spending another day confined to the bed. Frustration was gnawing at her insides. She wasn’t accustomed to being idle, to rely on others for her care. The independent spirit within her chafed against the constraints of her current situation.

Adam sensed her restlessness and decided to stay with her, offering companionship and distraction. He did his best to distract her, regaling her with stories and anecdotes to lighten her mood. But as the day wore on, Enora’s frustration bubbled to the surface once more. She tossed and turned in bed, unable to find comfort in her confined surroundings. She longed to be up and about, to reclaim her independence and freedom. Adam did his best to soothe her, to offer words of comfort and reassurance.

Sebastian and Lucas were consumed by their quest for answers, their determination unyielding as they delved deeper into the mystery surrounding Enora’s burns. The two men scoured every inch of the mansion, leaving no stone unturned in their relentless pursuit of clues. They combed through the basement, inspected the water pipes, and scrutinized every corner for any sign of foul play. As they inspected the water pipes, their attention was drawn to a small hole in one of the pipes, seemingly out of place. Sebastian and Lucas exchanged a puzzled glance, their brows furrowed in confusion. Could this be the source of the toxic substance that had caused Enora’s injuries?

Determined to get to the bottom of the mystery, Sebastian and Lucas set out to find the old building plans for the mansion. They rummaged through dusty archives and musty storage rooms, their fingers tracing the faded blueprints in search of answers. After hours of searching, they finally unearthed the old building plans, their eyes scanning they yellowed pages for any clue that might shed light on the situation. And there it was – the small hole in the water pipe was indeed connected to the newer pipes that supplied water to the mansion.

A sense of unease settled over Sebastian and Lucas as they realized the implications of their discovery. Someone had tampered with the water pipes, deliberately introducing a toxic substance that had endangered them. Their minds raced with questions and possibilities as they pondered the identity of the culprit. Who would want to harm Enora and them in such a malicious manner? And why?

Determined to uncover the truth, Sebastian and Lucas turned their attention to the next step in their investigation: find what was poured in the water pipes. They combed through the mansion’s trash, sifting through discarded items in search of any clue that might lead them to the perpetrator. Their efforts were rewarded when they stumbled upon a jerrycan nestled among the trash, its contents unknown. With careful precision, they collected samples from the jerrycan, their hands steady as they prepared to conduct tests to determine its contents. They worked in tandem, their movements precise and deliberate as they followed the necessary protocols.

After what felt like an eternity, the test results were in, confirming what they had feared. The jerrycan contained wolfsbane, it must have been what had caused Enora’s injuries.

A chill ran down Sebastian’s spine as he processed the implications of their discovery. Someone had deliberately poisoned their water with wolfsbane, putting their lives at risk. The magnitude of the betrayal weighed heavily on him, filling him with a fierce determination to bring the perpetrator to justice.

As Sebastian and Lucas entered the bedroom again, Enora looked up at them, her expression filled with curiosity and concern. “Did you find anything?”, she asked. Sebastian and Lucas exchanged a somber glance, the weight of their discovery pressing down on them like a heavy burden. “Yes, we did.”, Sebastian replied, his voice grave. “We found a small hole in one of the water pipes in the mansion, that is connected to the inflow of water.”

Enora’s eyes widened in shock, her mind racing with the implications of their revelation. “So, someone deliberately tampered with the water supply?”, she asked, her voice trembling with disbelief.

Lucas nodded solemnly, his jaw set with determination. “That’s what it looks like.”, he confirmed. “And that’s not all. We also found a jerrycan near the pipe, and it tested positive for wolfsbane.”

The gravity of their words hung in the air, casting a pall over the room as Enora and Adam absorbed the shocking revelation. Someone had intentionally poisoned the water, putting their lives at risk. A heavy silence descended upon them as they grappled with the implications of their discovery. Who could want them dead? And why?

Sebastian’s mind raced with possibilities as he considered the potential suspects. Could it be a rival pack seeking revenge? Or perhaps an outsider with a grudge against their kind? Or an insider with a grudge against them?

Lucas furrowed his brow in concentration, his thoughts mirroring Sebastian’s as he pondered the motives behind the heinous act. Whoever was responsible, they were dealing with a cunning and dangerous adversary – one who was willing to go to any lengths to achieve their goals.

As they speculated over the identity of the perpetrator, Enora’s voice broke through the tense silence, her tone filled with exhaustion and frustration. “I don’t want to think about this anymore.”, she said firmly, her eyes pleading with them to change the subject. “We can’t let fear consume us. We need to focus on moving forward and finding a solution.”
