Chapter 44

Chapter 44
The pack returned to the cabin as twilight settled over the forest, the tension of the rogue encounter still lingering. Rowan moved with his usual authority, conferring quietly with Marcus and his sister, Lyra, who had arrived earlier, her bubbly energy a stark contrast to the somber mood.

Clara hung back for a moment, catching her breath, when Lila spotted her. “Hey, you!” she called, eyes sparkling. “Come here. You look like you could use a friend who’s not ready to bite your head off.”

Clara smiled, grateful for the warmth. “I… could,” she admitted, stepping forward.

Lila looped her arm around Clara’s shoulders, pulling her close. “I’m Lila, by the way. Rowan’s sister. And yes, I’m aware of how intense he can be. But don’t worry—you’re not alone.”

Clara laughed softly, feeling immediately at ease. “I’m Clara. And thanks… I really appreciate that.”

“You handled yourself out there, you know,” Lila said, eyes wide with admiration. “I’ve seen a lot of people panic during training exercises, let alone a real rogue attack. You were incredible.”

Clara blushed, feeling both proud and embarrassed. “I… I didn’t know if I could. Rowan was right there… guiding me.”

Lila smirked knowingly. “Ah, that explains the glow in your eyes. Don’t worry, I get it. He’s… intense, protective, and a little overwhelming at times. But he adores you. And so will we. The pack takes care of its own.”

Clara felt a warmth spread through her chest. It was comforting to have someone on the inside vouch for her—someone who understood Rowan beyond the alpha exterior. “I really like you,” she said, smiling. “It’s nice… having someone to talk to who gets it.”

Lila laughed, giving her shoulder a friendly squeeze. “Welcome to the family, Clara. And trust me—you’re going to need me. Rowan can be… well, Rowan. I’ll make sure you survive his intensity.”

Clara laughed, the tension easing from her shoulders. “I think I can manage… with help.”

As the pack gathered for strategy, Rowan approached, noticing the bond forming between Clara and Lila. His hazel eyes softened, a flicker of pride crossing his face. “Looks like you’re making friends,” he murmured quietly, brushing a hand over Clara’s.

“I am,” Clara replied, her smile warm. “She’s amazing.”

Rowan’s lips brushed her temple, low and intimate. “Good. You need allies. Friends. Strength comes from more than just fighting. And I… want you to feel part of this world fully.”

Clara’s pulse quickened, desire and trust intertwining. “I do,” she whispered.

Rowan’s gaze lingered, intensity and longing mingling in his eyes. “And I want you… fully,” he murmured, voice husky. “Everything you are… mine.”

Clara leaned closer, letting herself be held in both protection and desire. “And I’m yours,” she replied, heart racing.

The pack’s discussion continued around them, the forest looming outside, danger ever-present. But inside, Clara felt connected—protected, supported, and increasingly entwined with both Rowan and his world. She realized that trust, strength, and desire were building together, stronger than fear or threat, and that she was no longer just an outsider—she belonged here.
