Chapter 45

Chapter 45
The morning sun filtered through the trees as Clara followed Lila to a secluded part of the forest. The air was crisp, carrying the faint scent of pine and damp earth. Today wasn’t about Rowan’s training—it was about learning from someone more… lighthearted, someone who could push her in ways Rowan’s intensity never could.

“Alright, Clara,” Lila said, bouncing slightly on her toes. “Today is about agility, instincts, and a little fun. Don’t worry, I won’t let you fall flat on your face—well, not too hard anyway.”

Clara laughed, feeling immediately at ease. “I could use the practice… and the fun.”

Lilaguided her through a series of exercises: leaping over logs, dodging through trees, and reacting to sudden movements. Unlike Rowan’s structured, intense methods, Lyra’s training was playful, teasing, yet still effective. Clara could feel her reflexes sharpening, her senses awakening in ways she hadn’t before.

“You’re improving faster than I expected,” Lila said, grinning. “You’ve got instincts… and you’re not afraid to trust them. That’s rare for someone new.”

Clara beamed. “Thanks… I think a lot of that comes from watching Rowan.”

Lila’s eyes twinkled knowingly. “Ah, I see. The intensity factor. Don’t worry, he’s not the only one who can push you.”

As they trained, Clara felt her confidence growing. Every dodge, every leap, every instinctive movement reinforced her sense of belonging. She realized she was beginning to understand the rhythm of the pack, the unspoken communication, and the subtle cues that signaled danger.

By midday, they took a break near a small clearing. Clara wiped sweat from her brow, heart still racing from exertion and exhilaration.

“Not bad for your first real extended session outside the cabin,” Lila said, handing her a water bottle. “You’re going to make Rowan proud… though he’ll probably act like he’s grumpy about it.”

Clara smiled, sipping the water. “I already know he’s proud,” she admitted, thinking of Rowan’s dark, intense eyes, the way he always hovered nearby, protective and focused. Her pulse quickened at the thought.

“Speaking of him…” Lila said, lowering her voice. “He’s been… distracted lately. You’ve got him thinking about more than just pack strategy. He can’t stop watching you.”

Clara’s cheeks flushed. “He… does?”

Lila nodded, a mischievous grin on her face. “Oh yes. And don’t get me wrong—he’s intense, protective, alpha all the way. But there’s a lot more going on beneath the surface. Just be careful… he doesn’t hide it well.”

Before Clara could respond, a rustling came from the trees nearby. Both women froze, senses tingling. Rowan emerged silently, his presence powerful, commanding.

“You’re pushing her hard?” he asked Lila voice low, a hint of possessiveness lacing his tone.

Lila smirked. “Just helping her get stronger. Can’t have her relying on you for everything, right?”

Rowan’s hazel eyes softened slightly, but the edge of desire and protectiveness remained. “No… but she needs guidance,” he said, voice rough. Then he turned to Clara. “And you’re doing well. I’m proud of you.”

Clara’s heart pounded, heat flooding her cheeks. “Thank you,” she whispered, voice trembling slightly.

Rowan stepped closer, the air between them charged with tension and desire. “Keep learning. Keep trusting your instincts… and keep staying near me,” he murmured, fingers brushing hers. “You’re mine, Clara. Remember that.”

Clara’s pulse raced, desire and trust mingling in a way that left her breathless. “And I’m yours,” she whispered, leaning into him.

The forest around them was calm, but danger lurked beyond the trees, the rogues always testing, always watching. Yet in this moment, with Lyra’s warmth, Rowan’s intensity, and her own growing confidence, Clara felt ready to face whatever came next—stronger, braver, and more certain of her place in this world.
