Chapter 83 — THE TRUTH.
Two months had passed since that fateful trip to the Temple of Flames. It was a period of uncertainty and growing distance between Ethan and Amara, as he grappled with the knowledge of her true identity. The weight of their connection, the echoes of Arcata's presence within her, had become a constant shadow in his mind. He tried to do all these for her protection, forcing himself to let go of her.
Ethan knew he had to protect Amara, even if it meant keeping his distance from her. The whispers of the rogue immortal still echoed in his ears, the warnings of a grave fate that awaited her if their bond remained unbroken from the ancient book still weighed on him. And so, he made an agonizing decision to push her away, to lessen the danger that loomed over her.
One chilly evening, he found himself at a lavish restaurant, waiting for a figure to arrive. Pearl Siva, his childhood friend and a she-wolf with a complicated past, was joining him for a date. Their connection was steeped in history and ritual, and Ethan had hoped that rekindling their bond might help distract him from thoughts of Amara.
As they enjoyed a meal together, Amara, drawn by an inexplicable force, happened to pass by the restaurant. Her heart ached at the sight of Ethan and Pearl, their laughter and camaraderie stinging like a thousand bee stings. She watched them, hidden in the shadows, feeling a torrent of emotions surging within her.
Ethan noticed Amara's presence before she could slip away, and guilt gnawed at him as their eyes locked for a brief moment. He desperately wished he could explain, but he knew that words would only put her in greater danger.
With a heavy heart, Amara stormed out of the restaurant, tears welling in her eyes, and her footsteps echoing her turmoil.
In her despair, she wandered aimlessly through the city, eventually finding herself in a secluded park. Tears streamed down her face as she collapsed onto a bench, her sobs echoing through the quiet night. Her world felt shattered, and she couldn't comprehend why Ethan had pushed her away. After everything they had shared together, why would he still end up pushing her away?
It was in this vulnerable moment that a gentle voice broke through her anguish. "My dear, why do you weep so?" The voice belonged to Lady Gwen, a woman of grace and wisdom who seemed to appear out of thin air.
“It is none of your business,” Amara said, but Lady Gwen said, “are you crying because of Ethan’s sudden repulsion?”
Amara didn’tknow who this was, but she called Ethan’s name like they were familiar with each other.
“You know him?” she asked.
“Of course, he promoted me, so I am extremely loyal to him, now tell me what is wrong?”
Amara, startled by the unexpected company, managed to choke out, "I... I don't understand. Ethan... he left me."
Lady Gwen then gently settled beside her, her presence a calming balm. "Amara is it? My name is Gwen. There is much you do not know," she began, her voice laden with knowledge, but also a whisper as if scare that the wooden bench they sat on had ears. "I know everything and why he is doing this. I have heard whispers of little adventure in the Temple of Flames, of your true identity, and of the difficult choices Ethan has had to make."
Amara turned to Lady Gwen, her eyes filled with curiosity and desperation. "Tell me, please. I need to understand, completely everything.”
And so, Lady Gwen began to unravel the secrets of Silverwood, weaving a narrative that shook Amara to her core. She spoke of the temple and the revelation that had occurred within its ancient walls the time Ethan and Alrond had gone to visit. She happened to have overheard all their discussion and came to tell Amara herself. She thought it cruel what Ethan was doing to Amara for the past two months, but she risked coming out there to tell Amara absolutely everything without leaving a detail. She told Amara about her own destiny as the reincarnation of Arcata, a being of immense power and significance. She also told Amara the history of Arcata, the prophecy and the memory about Nathan and the rogue immortal that led him to be blinded by revenge and killed all those while. This was all new to Amara. She now knew why the rogue immortal had planted false memories in her head, but she still could not remember the Nathan incident or the gem of Fate and Destiny incident. Learning to that Ethan was actually a powerful alpha who had sacrificed more than half of life source that day to save her. She felt extremely guilty for not knowing about this. No wonder he looked so frail, and Alrond couldn’t stop treating her with contempt. It all made sense to her now. All she wanted to do was run and hug Ethan thanking him over and over and over again.
"Amara," Lady Gwen said, her gaze steady, "Ethan did not abandon you out of cruelty or indifference. He left to protect you, to shield you from the perils that await a being of such importance."
Amara's tears continued to flow, but they were no longer tears of despair. They were tears of understanding, of revelation. She realized that Ethan's actions were driven by love and sacrifice, everything Ethan had ever done to her was, and her heart ached with a new depth of emotion.
Gratitude welled up within her, and she whispered her thanks to Lady Gwen. With newfound clarity, she knew what she had to do.
“What made you tell me all this?” Amara asked.
“I felt like you deserve to know everything that is going on. You are the linchpin in this upcoming war, it would be such a cruel thing to leave you in the dark,” Lady Gwen answered.
“Thank you for this Gwen,” Amara said and Lady Gwen nodded.
Amara returned home, her steps guided by purpose. She had the truth now, and it was time to face the challenges that lay ahead. She was no longer the innocent mortal she had once believed herself to be; she was the reincarnation of Arcata, a beacon of power and hope.
But as the next days went by, something terrible happened. The rogue immortal had decided revealed her identity to the supernatural world, and every power-hungry being in Silverwood was now searching for her. This all happened so fast that even Amara herself wasn’t prepared for all this. So she rushed to tell her family about all that was going on. It seemed that Sarah and Frank knew quite a little which made it a lot more easier for her.
With the help of Lady Gwen, they found refuge in a hidden sanctuary, a place where they could be safe from those who sought to harness her power. It was a time of uncertainty and danger, but Amara faced it with courage and determination.
In the heart of Silverwood, a storm was brewing, and Amara was at its center. Her journey had just begun, and she would need all the strength and knowledge she had gained to navigate the treacherous path that lay ahead.
The prophecy was starting, and history was about to repeat itself.
