Chapter 17 Chapter Seventeen

Chapter 17 Chapter Seventeen
Marco's POV

“S Construction is proposing a partnership, I checked the mergers and decided it would be best if they partnered with the company under your care. It will be the best cover to smoothly run our shipping business.” I calmly explained to Anthony as I threw my weight into the leather swivel chair in my office.

“They really came around as you promised, I've tried to convince them but they wouldn't get off their high righteous horses.” Anthony snorted.

“I'll have one of the men deliver the papers to your company tomorrow, our legal team is handling it all.” I quietly added and a heavy silence fell in the office, thin and uncomfortable but I busied myself by rummaging through the files on the table and organizing them.

Anthony had his head hung low before reaching for a packet of cigarettes on my desk, lighting one stick.

“Don't smoke near me Anthony, you know it irritates me.” I warned him, casually.

“Don't be such a killjoy.” he moaned but I shot him one look and he kept quiet.

“I have work to do Anrhony, go clean up the mess your men made at the club, I don't want to have to torture another journalist for your sake.” I calmly informed him.

He put out the cigarette and cursed his men under his breath. I didn't look up even as he began to leave but he stopped right at the door. “You're not upset about that maid issue are you?”

I didn't look up. “You could hack her into pieces and I wouldn't care a bit about it.”

He laughed, contentedly and walked away. I let out the breath I didn't realize I was holding and began to go through the financial report for that month, revenue is up 15% and costs are also up about 25%. Our profit margins are a little bit lower from a particular company than the rest.

I kept flipping through the three-page report and still couldn't make sense of anything, maybe it's my brain's way of trying to hide the fact that something is bothering me and I'd be damned if I acknowledge it.

The entire night, I began to come up with new strategies to be a thousand steps ahead of my competitors, not that they stood a chance but I like leverage and the ideas submitted for approval by the stupid strategy team I hired was disappointing. Around midnight, I was already suffocated and drove alone to the biggest nightclub in the city.

As expected, business flowed effortlessly and the club manager hurried towards me the moment I stepped in.

“Bring me the usual at my spot.”

“Yes boss.”

My booth is positioned in such a way that I can see others but no one can see me. I relaxed, downing a bottle of my favorite whiskey and watched as people did drugs, sniffing meth and chugging alcohol like their lives depended on it.

‘Bloody addicts.’ I cursed.

While the club offers privacy, I always have pictures of these scenes and videos because it always came in handy as bargaining chips, afterall; only the one percent most elite were allowed in my club, why not exploit it? I stayed there until dawn and went back home. A business meeting I can't afford to miss awaited me.

“Good morning little wolf, I'd be having friends over for dinner tonight, ensure a five course meal is ready by then.” I said to Camila over breakfast, without looking at her face.

She spoke quietly, chewing her food like she had all the time in the world. “I already told you, I am not a cook.”

“Supervise the chef while he's at it. You don't intend to be entirely useless around you do you?” I casually retorted, it wasn't a question.

She inhaled sharply. “Give me a gun, I want it for my own safety.”

I snickered then chuckled. “Because of what happened with Anthony? You should have known better if you weren't a slut trying to seduce him. You're mine, no one will dare try to hurt you.”

She loudly dropped the utensils on the table. “You disgust me.

“You're not quite the beauty you think you are either.”

She stormed off, angrily but I didn't have time for her tantrums, I had work to do so I headed for work.

Don't forget to

I texted Camila right in the middle of the business meeting, I derived pleasure in torturing her. The meeting ended hours later and I had to attend another emergency meeting, by the time I was done; the sky was already dark. On the way back home, my screen lit up as messages poured in.

Anthony: Did you guys hear what's happening in Country M?

Felipe: I thought it was just a rumor and desperate attempt to get our attention but I guess it's true.

Felix: How will you deal with this Marco?

Anthony: Ricardo sure has some nerve to try and not only dupe but also steal our business.

My face twisted into a frown as I typed a reply. Ricardo is a trusted henchman I put in charge of all my companies in Country M.

Me: What did Ricardo do?

Anthony: he poached all our clients, got rid of all our men and took over all the businesses you put in his charge, those who dared to question him were found dead in less than twenty-four hours. We tried reaching out to us but he sent a death threat instead.

Me: I'll handle it. Tonight's dinner is canceled.

Felipe: I'll fly to Country M tomorrow morning, let me take care of it.

Me: No, this will teach everyone else who tries to defy me a very interesting lesson.

I inhaled sharply and switched off my phone.

“Do we still head home boss?” Lionel; my driver asked.

“Head to my private hanger, I need to get to Country M tonight.” I instructed and turned on my phone to text Camila.

Won't be home tonight, throw out the food or something, dinner is canceled.

Leaning back, I shut my eyes and quietly exhaled as I gently massaged my temples. Exhaustion wore down on me heavily but if you need something done well, you do it yourself, besides; Ricardo wouldn't know what hit him.

“Where do we go from here? Your office or your mansion?” Diego asked calmly as he held the car door for me and went in beside me after I sat down.

“Home. I'm a bit exhausted, office work can wait till morning.”

“I think we should head to the office, restrategize.” Diego suggested, subtly hinting at some unfinished business.

“We just landed Diego, I'd rather restrategize in my study room, you just got back after six months abroad, consider it my treat.” I paused briefly and replied, not letting the strain show in my voice.

He nodded and signaled to the driver, as the journey began I relaxed. About an hour later, we arrived home.

“Are you throwing me a welcome party?” Diego asked, confusedly as we could hear loud music coming from the house but I frowned, walking in a synchronized pattern towards the house.

“You think I'd throw parties without shedding blood?” I retorted, evenly.

Our steps faltered as we halted, in awe of the sight before us; guns, shell casings, loose bills were scattered everywhere, the stench of booze, meth and cigar filled the air and in the middle of it all was Felipe, Felix and many ladies were dancing lewdly to the songs, on one hand were some of their man, putting away stashes of drugs.

I gritted my teeth, ready to spring into action but Diego caught my arm.

“Let me handle this.” He requested, then reached into his leather jacket and fished out a gun, he pointed it upwards and shot it, calling the unsuspecting party to order.

They immediately sprung to action, ready to strike but relaxed seeing it was me.

“If it isn't the man of the party! Welcome back home Marco!” Felipe greeted me with a loud voice.

“Welcome back boss.” The men around echoed, bowing their heads in respect.

“Idiots.” Diego cursed.

Felix and Felipe staggered towards me and I easily avoided them.

“Why are you throwing a party at my house?” I evenly asked, the air shifting.

“We were just celebrating your victory. Try to chill man!” Felix said, casually.

He reached out to touch me but Diego caught his arm and I motioned for him to let go.

“Oh Diego! You're back.”

“Touch me and I'll break your fingers.” Diego barked.

I scanned around and noticed Anthony was missing. “Where's Anthony?” I asked.

“Here's around here somewhere, might be in one of the rooms fooling with some hottie.”

I snickered, though I considered them my friends, I don't condone such vulgarities in my house. “I’ll let it slide just this once, get out. You have ten minutes.” I warned and without waiting for a response, I walked away from them.

They sprung into action, barking orders at their men and ladies. I walked up the stairs, Diego quietly following behind.

“You've grown soft.” Diego intoned.

“Don't be fooled by what just happened Diego.” I sighed, quietly.

Exhaustion was wearing me thin and I wanted to rest above everything else but I cast one look towards Camila's room and sucked air through my teeth. I've been away from home for an entire week, I wonder what she's up.

Diego noticed my slight hesitance. “Do you want me to check it out?”

“No.” I rejected the offer firmly but barely had I taken two steps when I heard a loud crash. Without thinking, I hurried towards the direction and as we got closer, I heard Camila's voice, loud and clear, panic and desperation shot through her tone.

“What are you doing? Let go of me!”

“Stop touching me!”

I kicked the door open with my leg only to see Camila pinned to her bed, half-naked and trying to break free and hovering above her was Anthony; kissing her, his belt was unbuckled and had his hand wrapped around her neck. Without thinking, I reached for the gun Diego carried and snatched it from the holster, aimed it and bang! I fired a shot.

Anthony propelled himself away from Camila, hands instinctively grabbing his left leg as blood gushed out of it.

“Who the hell said you could touch what belongs to me?” I roared, angrily.
