Chapter 44 Too fast
Chapter 44 Too fast
Angela
It's locked up. The whole place is locked up, rotting even. The chains with locks on them locking the gate looks rusted. It looks exactly like I expected it to look, except that in the video it looked clean.
"I don't understand, this place is exactly the one in the video." I tell Brian. "Maybe we should go inside and check it out?"
He looks at me like I've gone mad, and maybe I have considering how I left things with my husband.
"Look Angela, I don't have a death wish. You may not be afraid of your husband, but I am. That being said, you've checked it out and you gave me the location, now I'm taking you back and coming back on my own to stake it out." He says after staying silent the whole way here.
"What? You can't do that, you didn't even give me a chance."
"Let me ask you a question, can you handle a gun?"
"No, but we're just checking the place out."
"Do you know what to look for when you get into places like this then?" He asks another.
"Well, no but it's not like they're expecting us."
"Let me teach you something that will help you open your mind to our world. Always expect the unexpected. If you think those guys are not expecting us, you're dead wrong. They know we're looking for them, they know it's only a matter of time until we get them. And as soon as you step a foot out of this car, you're dead. You compromised yourself already by coming with me. And the fact that we are still here right now tells them that there's something up. I'm sorry Angela, but you're not ready for this kind of thing." He says then starts the car and we leave.
We don't take the road that we came with though, in fact, we take the road that leads to the compound. But instead of getting inside we pass. Twenty minutes after we've passed the compound and we're still not heading back to the hotel.
"Where are we going? I thought you were taking me back..." I ask him.
"I am and I will as soon as I lose our tail."
I feel my heart jumping out of my skin. Because"...tail?"
"Yes, tail. What did you think was going to happen in this stake?" He asks me, clearly pissed off.
I turn in my seat trying to look back but can't see nothing, there are cars behind us, I mean we're in the middle of town, obviously there are cars around us. Especially because he's driving as if we have no tail. He's cruising on the road basically.
"Did we lose them?" I ask, fear lacing my words.
"Almost."
We drive to some compound which is gated, the gates open to let us through. Brian drives straight to the what looks like a garage which also opens for us and we park the car.
"Where are we?" I ask as he opens his door.
A man steps out from the house to the garage, and shakes hands with Brian as I open my door. They're whispering so low that the closer I get I still can't hear a damn thing.
"Angela, this is Raymond. You will be staying with him until your husband comes and picks you up."
"What? You can't leave me here."
"I can and I have. You're going to put yourself in danger if you carry on like this." He tells me then walks towards the door the man came through.
Just like that, no explanation, nothing. He walks into the house, when I go to follow him, he's walking towards another door that leads outside and he's gone.
"Hello, would you like something to drink? Or eat maybe?" Raymond asks me.
"No, I would like for you to give me the car keys so that I can leave." I tell him.
Brian gave him the keys, I saw him. And if he denies it then it's lucky that there are multiple cars in the garage. Although, my plan to drive is crazy, considering I don't even know how to drive.
Raymond looks at me with a passive face while I stare back, after a minute or so, he nods then hands me the keys. I wonder what that means. I have a suspicion that he knows I don't know how to drive. If that's the case, then I don't like the fact that Sergio shares my information with everyone around us, I will have to speak about that to him when I see him.
I walk towards the garage and unlock the door to get inside the car and I just sit there. I know how to insert the car keys, I know where they're supposed to be inserted, I just don't know what I have to do after that. And just like that, the tears start falling.
I feel weak, like this is something I'm supposed to know. I don't know how because I've never been given a chance to actually learn. And its stupid, so stupid crying for something like this, but I don't know what to do.
I was only trying to help, to show Sergio that I can also help. Be someone he can depend on but I've ruined everything. I've put us all in danger just because I felt the need to prove myself. I don't know what to do, I don't know how to apologise to him about this.
I just didn't want him to carry the burden alone, to carry all of us in our relationship as if he is the only one in the relationship, I needed to show him that I am also strong, I can also help carry us if he let me. But I guess Brian was right, I jumped in too fast without looking for any hazards.
I don't know how long I sit in the car weaping but when I finally stop, I remember something. There were two other compounds that looked the very same as the warehouse we were housed in. We were rotated a lot when we were younger and they thought we wouldn't remember anything.
They always made sure to blindfold us and made it as if it's a game or they were teaching us something. I always thought it was weird that they would put us in a bus saying we were going somewhere but still coming back to the same place again. The only difference was the distance we travelled in.
Sometimes it felt like we travelled for only a short while and others it felt like we travelled for a long distance.
When I get out of the car and go back inside the house, I find my husband talking to Raymond. Raymond excuses himself and leaves me alone with Sergio.
