Samar’s Possessiveness

The Next day Samar and Avika went for shopping. They were in a mall. Suddenly someone hit Samar in hurry.

"Can't you see?" Samar said with irritation.

"I am sorry, boss," someone said and Avika felt elated seeing him.

"Varun," Avika said.

"Avika, what a pleasant surprise! After such a long time! Happy to meet you," Varun said.

"Do you know him?" Samar said.

"He is Varun, my friend in college. Varun, he is my husband, Samar," Avika said.

Both of them shook hands formally. Samar didn't like something which he doesn't understand.

"Shall we have a cup of coffee?" Varun said.

Avika looked at Samar.

Samar agreed and they went to a nearby cafe. Waiter came to take the order.

"One hot chocolate. Avika, what do you prefer?" Samar asked her.

Before Avika replies, Varun placed the order.

"Cappuccino. Avika loves it."

"One hot chocolate and two cappuccinos," Varun said.

Samar didn't like it but he didn't show it off to any of them. Avika observed Samar and understood his feelings. Sometimes even small things have the power to hurt when we are too possessive. But possessiveness is quite common in the relationship.

"How is everything going on?" Varun asked Avika.

"Quite well. What are you doing now?"

"I am working in Wipro. I came here for a week to attend a seminar," Varun said.

Avika bid bye soon as she noticed Samar's uneasiness. Suddenly, Varun hugged Avika making Samar more uncomfortable. However, Samar left the issue without dragging it. The next day, Samar went to the office and came in the evening to the home. He sat on a sofa leaning backwards and catching his head.

"Avika, please bring me a coffee," Samar said, closing his eyes.

"Samar, take this coffee," Garima said.

"Maa, why are you giving coffee? Where is Avika?"

"She went to a friend's birthday party," Garima said.

"Friend? Who is that?" Samar said.

"Avika said someone from her college. I don't remember the name. She said that she would come soon. Why are looking so tired, Samar?"

"Nothing, maa. Just the work load. I will go to the room."

"Your eyes are also red. Are you having fever?"

"Nothing, maa. I will take a rest. Everything will be alright."

Samar took coffee cup and went to his room. He called Avika. She didn't notice the call talking to her old friends who attended the party. After some time, Avika was worried seeing many missed calls from Samar. She called him back immediately.

"Hello, where are you?" Samar said.

"Today is Varun's b-day. He invited me. I came to the party. I informed mom," Avika said.

"So it's enough if you inform mom. No need to inform me. That's good," Samar said, clenching. He still didn't know the reason for his anger at Avika.

"Samar, I didn't mean it. I called you But your mobile was switched off. So..."

"Leave it. I am not feeling well. Come to our home immediately. You must be here within five minutes. That's it," Samar said, making Avika confused. Samar has never spoken in a commanding manner until now with her and didn't become angry for simple issues.

"What happened to you? Are you unwell? I am coming," Avika said but Varun stopped her.

"Avika, come on. I am cutting the cake."

"Actually I need to go. Samar is not well. I should go," Avika said, taking her handbag "Wow, your husband is sick just for missing you for a few hours," Varun said.

"What do you mean?"

"I mean he is just trying to frighten you to make you go back home sooner," Varun said.

"What? Anyways I need to go. I should go when Samar wants me to come home," Avika said.

"Wait for five minutes. I will cut the cake and then you can leave. Please Avika," Varun said and other friends took her to cake cutting without giving chance to her to talk.

"Okay, guys. I will start now." Avika said as soon as the cake cutting completed.

"Okay, madam. We understand you. Your love is waiting for you there. So you should go. Bye," Varun said.

Avika started from there. It's one hour but still she didn't reach home.

"Driver, we are getting late," Avika said as she was worried about Samar's health and also for his anger.

"Madam, traffic is heavy today. I am trying to go faster, but all the routes have heavy traffic."

Avika reached her home after two hours. She went to her room and found Samar sleeping. She placed her hand on his forehead.

"Are you ok?" Avika said.

Samar opened eyes.

"Wow, great. You came so early," Samar said.

"I am sorry, actually today traffic is heavy. So.."

"Did you start immediately after my call?"

"I thought to start but friends forced me to stay until cake cutting. As soon as the cake cutting was finished, I have started from there."

"Good. I didn't succeed in forcing you to come soon to home. But your friends succeeded in making you stay there. No one can force anyone to do anything. It's just an excuse," Samar said.

"Samar," Avika tried to convince him.

"Anyways, leave it. Did you have dinner?"

Avika shook her head in no.

"I too didn't have my dinner. Can you bring dinner to room for both of us or shall I bring it?"

"I will bring dinner," Avika said.

They had dinner. Samar didn't talk to her and started reading a book.

"Samar," Avika said.

"What?"

"I'm...I'm really sorry," Avika said.

"For what?" Samar said without looking at her.

"I think you didn't like me going to the party. I should have taken your permission before going there."

"Nothing like that. But today I am really so tired. And I love to see your smiling face after a long working day. It makes me relaxed. I just missed it today. Anyways it's ok. I can't say you to stay at home all the time for me. You too have your own life, enjoyments and friends," Samar said, and stressed the word friends.

"Samar, it's not like that."

"Good night. I have no time to waste on unnecessary discussions," Samar said and resumed reading the book.

Next morning, Avika woke up late and saw Samar getting ready. She got up immediately.

"Coffee," Avika said.

"It's ok. I have no mood to have coffee today," Samar said.

"Samar, please listen to me."

"I have important works. My work is not just to talk lovingly to you all the time."

"At least have your breakfast and go."

"I will have it at the office. And you no need to quit food for me. That's a kind of emotional blackmailing and it irritates me much. So if you have any respect for my words, have your breakfast on time. If not it's your wish. Bye."

Avika looked at him with tears. He didn't notice that and went to the office. Avika called him many times but he ignored her calls. She fed up and messaged him.

"I am really sorry. Please forgive me. I would never hurt you again. I love you so much."

"I am in a meeting. I will talk in the evening after returning to home. No matter what, I love you forever. Take care, sweetheart," Samar replied making her happy.

Samar started from the office to meet Avika as soon as the meeting finished. On his way, he saw Avika with Varun in a car. He went to the office again and called her.

"Where are you, Avika?"

"I came for shopping," Avika said.

"With whom did you go for shopping?"

"I went alone. You are not there, so I came alone," Avika said.

Samar closed his eyes, remembering seeing her with Varun in the car.

"Tell me where are you. I will come there."

"I am in the Vihanya mall," Avika said.

"I am coming. Bye."

Avika disconnected the call.

"Shall we have lunch?" Varun asked.

"No, Samar is coming. I will wait for him. You can carry on," Avika said and within a few minutes, Samar arrived there.

"Shall we have lunch?" Avika said.

"Sure. Did you finish your shopping?"

"Yes, that's completed."

They went to a restaurant.

"What do you want to have, Avika?"

"Maybe the usual Schezwan rice and paneer 65, am I right?" Varun said, fueling Samar's insecurity and jealous.

Avika smiled and nodded.

"I think I know more about you than your husband," Varun said.

Avika looked at Samar. Samar gave irritating looks at her and had lunch silently.

"Don't you both talk while eating?" Varun said.

"I hate talking while eating," Samar said.

Three of them had lunch and Varun left to his work.

"I want to buy a few more things," Avika said, holding Samar's arm to divert his mood.

"No need. I am getting headache. I want to go home. If you want, you can buy everything and come later to our home," Samar said.

"No, no. Let's go," Avika said.

Both went to the home. Samar laid on the bed and Avika came to him with pain relieving balm.

"I will apply this balm to your forehead and your headache will cure immediately."

Avika smiled and touched his forehead softly. He removed her hand rudely.

"Stay away from me. If you leave me alone for a while, my headache will stop soon. Because you are the reason for my headache," Samar lashed at Avika.

"But what did I do?"

"Get lost. Leave me alone."

Avika left the room with tears. She somehow managed to hide her tears from family members. She pretended as if nothing happened and covered it with a smile. Samar didn't come out at all. Avika started cooking to divert her mind.

"Are you okay?" Prema said, seeing Avika's face dull.

Avika nodded.

"You are putting sugar instead of salt in the curry," Prema said.

"I am having a headache. That's it."

"Sister, go and take a rest. We will prepare dinner," Prema said.

Avika left and rested on a sofa in the hall.

"Avika, dinner is ready. Go and call Samar," Garima said.

Avika didn't understand what to do.

"Is everything ok, Avika?" Garima said.

"Yes, mom. Everything is absolutely fine," Avika said and went to their room to call Samar. She knocked on the door.

"Come in," Samar said.

Avika went inside but avoided looking at him with fear.

"Dinner is ready. Mom told to call you."

"Bring dinner to the room for me."

Avika brought dinner to him. Everyone had dinner and slept. Avika sat in the hall watching TV as she doesn't understand whether to go to room or not. She felt drowsy and went to room to wash her face. Samar looked at her.

"I just came to wash my face. I will go again," Avika said.

She washed her face and thought to leave to the hall again.

"Wait," Samar said, and Avika stood there without turning towards him.

"Are you going to sleep in the hall today? How many days can you escape from me?" Samar said.

"I…I'm..." Avika didn't know what to say.

Samar came to Avika and turned her towards him. He cupped her face and kissed her on the lips softly.

"I am sorry," Samar said.

Avika hugged him tightly with tears.

"I don't know why you are angry with me. As far as I know I didn't hurt you. For attending that birthday party too I apologized you. Please tell me what did I do? If I hurt you unknowingly, please tell me. I won't do it again."

"Why did you lie to me?" Samar said.

"What? When did I lie to you? I can never lie to you. I never do that," Avika said.

"You said that you were going shopping alone, but you went with Varun."

"No, I started to go shopping alone in our car. But the tire was punctured on the way. Varun was going on the same way and he gave me lift to me. He has a seminar in the same shopping mall at the top floor. I completed my shopping and he too completed his seminar. So, Varun met me there again. I didn't lie to you and I can never lie to you," Avika said, holding his hands.

"I am sorry for misunderstanding you."

"Samar, I don't think only that is your problem. Something else is bothering you. Tell me what's that."

"Nothing," Samar said.

Avika cupped his face.

"Tell that looking into my eyes. Don't you like my friendship with Varun? Is it bothering you?"

"Maybe," Samar said.

"Are you doubting me?"

"No way. I trust you completely, Avika," Samar said.

"Then why are you irritated with me whenever I meet Varun?"

Samar hugged her.

"I don't know but I am feeling as if I am missing you."

"What? Samar, Varun is my friend, a very small part of my life. But you are my love, you are my life. How can you think like that?"

"Tell me one thing, Avika. You want me to take it lightly. If I too move closely with any other girl, leaving you even when you are not well for her and if she tells all my tastes correctly where you know nothing about me, how do you feel? Can you take it lightly? I don't understand one thing. Every girl or boy thinks that their life partner should broad minded and should take their friendships lightly. But if it comes to them, they can't take it lightly. They will feel possessive but they don't want their life partner to be possessive."

"So you are possessive about me?"

Samar nodded.

"Samar, I agree that everyone want their life partner not to be possessive but they will be possessive. But my opinion is if there is trust and understanding, possessiveness has nothing to do. I agree that I was wrong for coming late from the party even after knowing you are ill. I am sorry for that and it never happens again.

Friendship and love are divided only with a very thin line. If we are clear with that line, no need to bother. I know how to draw line between friendship and love. I would never cross that line. We may have many friends but love will be only one. If you understand this, you won't be worried much.

I can leave friendship for love, but no one leaves love for friendship. That's the difference between love and friendship. Friendship is necessary to live but we can't live without love. Everyone trusts their mom and if they have same trust in their wives too, every couple will be happy. But if you want me to cut my friendship with Varun, I will do it for sure. I don't want to hurt you because love you."

Samar hugged her and wiped her tears.

"I am really sorry. I don't know why I felt like that. I have equal trust in you as I have in my mom. I love you. I never hurt you again. I have no objection for your friendship with Varun. I really mean it. I know my Avika maintains clear cut line between love and friendship. So what about your dinner?"

"I...had..."

"Just now you said you can't lie to me," Samar said.

"I am sorry. I am not hungry."

"At least for me, you have to eat," Samar said.

Samar brought dinner for her, and fed her. They slept after chit chatting for some time. In the morning, they are having breakfast with the family. Varun came to their home. He greeted everyone. They chit chatted some more.

"Actually I came to invite you and Samar for dinner today. Tomorrow I am leaving. Can you both please join with me for dinner?" Varun said, and Samar agreed. They went for dinner. Samar went outside as he got a call.

"You are so brave, Avika. That's what I always like in you," Varun said.

"I didn't get you," Avika said.

"After that incident I never thought you will be ok. But I am happy that you are doing well and recovered from that completely. Sorry if hurt you by remembering that again."

"I am not brave. I am also a normal girl who lost all her hopes and happiness after that incident. But it's because of Samar, I am this happy today.

He is really a blessing who had totally changed my life. In his love, I forgot my past, my pain, and my fears. He is the first person in my whole life who is so loving, caring, and affectionate. He is my strength. If he is with me, I can do anything and I am sure I will be happy forever."

"You love him so much, right?"

"I love him so much but still I can never love him as much as he loves me."

"I am really happy for you both. Avika, I am getting married in the coming month. You both must come. I will talk with Samar too."

"What do you want to talk with me, man?" Samar said, joining them after attending the call.

"Samar, Next month I am getting married. You both should come," Varun said.

"Where is the venue?"

"My hometown."

"I am sorry. We can't come," Samar said.

Avika and Varun looked at him confusingly. Samar held her hands.

"I don't want Avika to get disturbed by coming to that place again. Most importantly I have a few issues to solve. Until then I can't bring Avika to her hometown," Samar said.

Avika smiled hearing his words.

"You both are really a very good couple. I hope everything will be solved before my marriage and you both will attend my marriage."

"If everything solves by that time, surely we both will attend your marriage. When is your flight tomorrow?

"At early morning 3 AM."

"Let's have dinner. Next time if you come to this city, stay in our home and not in a hotel," Samar said.

Avika surprised but felt happy for having Samar as her husband. They finished their dinner. Varun hugged Avika and Samar and left to his native place.
