Chapter 15 ~A day in detention~
Fiona's POV
I'm so mad at Xander that I can't even think. Today is Friday after school and I'm on my way to the library where detention was being held.
This was my very first time in detention but that's not what's making me mad.
Today was supposed to be our first official council meeting as Luna and Alpha, but here I was.
And I get it. He did what he did to protect me, but it was too extreme. Since the day of the fight, I haven't spoken to him or rode in his car to come to school.
The elders and other members of the pack had already started whispering that I was a bad omen. But did I blame them? After all, my first appearance as Luna had to be postponed.
When I arrived at the detention venue, I saw that Xander and the other guy, Mike, were already there. What I didn't expect to see was Cassia.
Our eyes met for a brief second before I looked away. I'm pretty sure I saw a mocking smirk on her face.
I found a lonely spot far away from them all and sat there.
A teacher walked in. I'm not sure, but I think his name was Mr. Ian. He looked like he had other places to be, rather than guarding a bunch of rebellious teenagers.
“Get a seat, all of you.” He muttered dryly. We all were already seated.
“This is detention. Do well to behave yourselves and remain quiet. Failure to do so will warrant a hearing with the disciplinary committee. There are books around that you can read. You all will be free to go once it's 6pm.” He garbled the words like he had said them a million times.
We all nodded, and he walked off. Although, I'm pretty sure I saw him roll his eyes.
Immediately after he left, I heard a rustle from the back and then I saw Cassia sitting beside me.
‘Here we go’ I muttered to myself.
The first thing she does is to give a mocking laugh. “So you finally got what you want, huh, Luna?”
“Cassia, I'm not in the mood today, please,” I snapped. “But since you're asking, yes. Yes, I got what I've always wanted.”
Cassia scowls at me. “Well, Alpha Beckett asked me to warn you. He's coming back to get you.”
I froze on the spot. “Get me how?”
She chuckled when she realised her threat was having the desired effect.
“If you come to think of it, what werewolf doesn't know how to shift? You think we don't know that you're just some pathetic human disguised as a werewolf?”
Are we honestly back to this? “I don't know, maybe you should tell Beckett to get over me, I most certainly have gotten over him—scratch that—you all.”
I put on a mask of confidence.
“Alpha Beckett is joining alliances with some other packs and when they come for Silvereign, everything is going down,” Cassia spits out.
I'm taken aback by her statement. I couldn't believe that Beckett would stoop this low.
She continued. “And I will be there to watch everything go down, including you.”
I don't know what came over me, but I flashed my eyes at her, emitting my Luna aura.
In that instant, she falls to her feet, kneeling down and bowing. From the look on her face, she wasn't doing it willingly, but was forced to.
Her kneeling at my feet probably looked ridiculous to the other students in detention, because soon they were laughing and pointing at her.
“What the fuck, dude?”
“So weird.”
I turned and found Xander staring at me. He was probably the only person who understood what was going on.
He had a faint smile on his lips.
Before long, detention was over, and I walked out of the school gate.
I was going to call a cab when I heard Xander's voice calling out to me.
“Fiona,” He sprinted to where I was. He looked like he'd been running for a while. “I've been calling you.”
“Sorry, I didn't hear.” I muttered truthfully.
“Figured.” He looked at me as I turned to be on my way. “Don't tell me you're seriously planning to walk all the way to the house by this time.”
“No, I plan to call a cab.” I turned back to face. Truth was, I was still mad at Xander about everything.
“Why call a cab when I have a fucking car!”
I shrunk back in fear. This was the first time Xander was yelling at me. I raised my voice a tad bit higher, too. “I don't know Xander, maybe you would have figured that I don't want you around me.”
A hurt look passed across his face. “You don't have to like me or stand me, but I will not watch you walk alone through the woods by this time.”
There was no point arguing with him, so with a sigh, I followed him to the car.
“Seatbelt.” He muttered as he drove.
I clicked the seatbelt and rested my head as he drove in the quiet. It was a good thing I followed him because, within a short while, rain droplets began falling from the sky.
I wound down the window because I enjoyed the smell of new rain touching the earth.
“The day I saw you at school and we spoke, that wasn't the first time I noticed you.” Xander spoke abruptly.
I looked at him.
“And no, I didn't give you the contract because of Nova, actually… as botched as it sounds, I kind of wanted her to reject it.”
I gazed at him, my eyes softening.
“I know I haven't officially apologized for this whole incident, but, Fiona, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to hurt you.”
“It's alright, I'm sorry too for making this a big deal,” I mean, how could I not forgive him when he looked this cute? “It's just, I value honesty in everything.”
Very weird of me to say that when I was just as guilty of lying. But still, something stopped me from telling him everything.
“I know this whole thing is weird and overwhelming even for me, but I think from now henceforth, let's just not listen to a third party, especially Vivienne.” He added with a smirk.
I chuckled despite myself.
Rhia's voice came to mind.
Level 1 Luna abilities include heightened senses, Light healing and emotional empathy
Oh, no wonder I've been able to sense a lot of things, even rogues.
Xander stopped the car abruptly and stared at me.
My stomach did a lurch, and the butterflies went crazy.
He moved towards me and kissed me softly. His hands went in my hair as our tongues danced in a rhythm.
I kissed him back too, surprising myself with how passionate I felt.
My hands moved under his shirt to touch his abs, but as soon as they came in contact with his skin, a bright white light flooded my eyes.
I entered a trance.
