Chapter 14 ~Fist fight~
Xander's POV
I'm at hockey practice, but Theon keeps calling out for Fiona. We have a really important playoff this week, so I kinda have to have my head in the game.
Let's go see Fiona.
Theon echoed for the billionth time and yes, I want to see Fiona too, but no, I can't leave practice.
The coach blew the whistle, and we began the drill.
The puck slid past my outstretched stick, a typical easy pass in the slot if I wasn't so freaking distracted.
The coach groaned, frustrated. “Grayson! Get your head in the game. That's the third time this period.”
I wish I could too, Coach.
“What's going on, man?” Coach said as he called me aside. “Playoffs are next week and we can't afford to be lagging. Maybe you should seat out on today's practice. Come with a fresh mind tomorrow,”
“Okay, Coach.” I agreed, more happily than I should've.
Great, now let's go see Fiona Theon echoed impatiently.
I walked into the hallway, taking long strides.
“Hey, Xander, practice is over, man?” Someone called from a distance.
I muttered something indifferent and continued looking for Fiona.
I exchanged a few handshakes and backslaps with some guys on the way.
A small crowd was gathering at the end of the hallway.
‘Fucking high school!’ I muttered. Still looking for Fiona.
“Hey man, that's your girlfriend.” A voice called from a distance.
I turned back to see one of the school's basketball players. “Sorry?”
“Mike… I think he groped your girlfri…”
I didn't even wait for him to finish his sentence before I skipped past the crowd and saw that it was, in fact, Fiona.
She looked distraught. Mike wore a smug, satisfied smile on his face.
In that instant, all I saw was red.
I lurched at him, my wolf strength taking over as I landed punches, kicks, blows, whatever I could. And honestly, it felt so good.
“So- sorry man..I w..” Mike's smug look vanished instantly, replaced by a petrified expression.
I aimed at his front teeth and landed a punch. ‘Let's see how you'll be able to hit on another girl with a freaking trailer in your teeth.’
It was increasingly becoming bloody. Mike attempted to fight back, throwing me off him.
“Bad decision, Micky.” I tutted and gave him a slap that sent him back to the ground.
At this point, the whole student body was gathered around. They all looked frightened. I didn't care.
Fiona's face was ashen; at first fear, but probably shock. When she recovered, she sprinted towards us, shouting. “Xander, stop! What are you doing?”
Someone must have called the principal because the man walked in on the fight at the moment. “Now stop it! Both of you.”
Reluctantly, I disengaged from what would've ended with Mike in a body bag. It was my turn to wear a smug smile.
“Follow me now to my office!” The principal's voice boomed in the now silent hallway.
Mike managed to get up, and we followed him to his office.
“You too, miss.” He said, referring to Fiona.
Oh, no…
“And the rest of you- get back to class this instant!” He snapped at the crowd, who dispersed reluctantly, still throwing curious glances at us.
We finally got to the principal’s office. He stared at us for so long that I started wondering whether he was actually going to say something.
He turned to me first. “Mr. Grayson, I must say I'm highly disappointed in you. You are the captain of the school's hockey team and an A-star student. One would expect more from you.”
I said nothing.
It surprised me when Fiona’s voice spoke next. “Principal Barron, this guy harassed me on my way to class and Xander was just defending me.”
The principal turned to Mike. “Is this true?”
Mike, who was still dazed from the beating he received, managed to nod his head.
The principal sucked in a deep breath. “This is highly unacceptable and you will be adequately punished for this,”
He turned to me. “Despite that, two wrongs don't make a right.”
“I understand that. I'm sorry, principal Barron.” I said, looking sober.
Was I sorry? No. Would I do it again? Hell yeah.
“Because you're the hockey captain and your potential career as a player, I wouldn't want to mar your record. But I definitely will have to give you all detention.”
It is what it is.
I bowed my head, looking sorry. Fiona and Mike agreed to the detention as punishment.
"...this Friday," he continued.
What! I had an important council meeting with the pack on Friday.
I tried mindlinking Fiona to communicate this to her, but she blocked me off.
Great!
“You may go.” The principal dismissed us after telling us the time and place for the detention. “Not you, Mr. Grayson.”
What was it again?
Fiona cast a last look at me before heading out. Mike winced painfully as he walked out, and I just felt pure joy.
“Xander Theon Grayson, I would need you to bring your parents to school on Monday."
I almost laughed at the thought of my parents coming to this school…
“I'm sorry, why?”
A look passed on his face before he continued. “Because, Mr. Grayson, if your first approach when you see something wrong is to physically assault a fellow student, that says a lot about your… well, upbringing.”
What the fuck is this man saying?
Mike harassed Fiona.
“This tells of a bigger problem.” He continued. “And besides that, I've noticed that lately you've been skipping school and even the coach said that you've been zoning out at practice.”
“That's not… Listen, I've just been going through some shi.. stuff, that's all.”
“All the more reason why I need to sit down with you, your parents and possibly the school's counselor, so that we can get to the bottom of this ‘stuff’ you seem to be going through.”
And that was how it ended. With me thinking, how the fuck was I supposed to bring my werewolf parents to some dumbass teacher-parent meeting?
