Chapter 45 - Sparks Fly
Natasha's POV
Time goes by so slowly when you're so excited about something but it didn't take long for Valerian to get ready and prepare everything.
The next thing I know, we're already driving to the airport where his private jet is.
I've never ridden or even seen an airplane personally in my whole life and I don't know what to expect except it will be luxurious since Valerian owns it and he just naturally screams luxury and old money.
The moment we arrived at the airport, there were people who welcomed us. They attended to our luggage especially mine because I have two suitcases and travel bags with me.
When Valerian saw my luggage, he didn't say anything. He knows that Elyse helped me pack and I'm assuming he already knew what to expect.
We were escorted to a secluded area with a number of private jets around.
I was in total awe when we entered the airport and I didn't think I could be more surprised.
"Valerian," I called. "Do you own all this?"
I have no business asking Valerian's business but I just can't help but to wonder.
Valerian just shrugged his shoulders at me. "Let's go, Natasha."
We entered inside the airplane and it was like entering my dream.
It's like watching my dream turn into reality right in front of my bare eyes.
"Good morning, Mr. Fenrir. Good morning, Miss Natasha." A beautiful flight attendant greeted us with a delightful smile plastered on her face.
Does she know me? How?
"Please." The flight attendant gestured her hand gracefully leading us to our seat.
I sat next to Valerian and I was amazed by how spacious the inside of the jet is and how elegant it looks.
"Can I get you something to drink, ma'am, sir?" the flight attendant asked.
"I'm good," Valerian answered. He then turned to me. "How about you, Natasha?"
"No, I'm good too." I flashed a smile to the flight attendant.
"You are more beautiful in person than the TV news and magazine," the flight attendant said.
I can't help but get flustered.
I smiled. "Thank you so much."
The flight attendant nodded and smiled at us before she left.
I quickly turned to Valerian the moment she was gone.
"I was on TV?" I asked.
"Our engagement announcement." Valerian nodded. "Don't worry, it was a local news. You know I can't be known internationally."
Goodness. I was on TV and I didn't even see it?!
I mean I knew about the magazine and news since we had a photoshoot and honestly, it is expected to be on TV too but it's nerve-wracking having a stranger tell you she saw you on TV.
What was exactly on the news? It happened a little too long ago but I'm intrigued now to watch it.
"Can we get a TV at your house?" I requested.
Valerian nodded. "I'll have it at the house when we get back."
"Good morning, Mister Valerian Fenrir and Miss Natasha, this is your captain speaking. Welcome aboard this flight. It is currently 6 in the morning. Our flight time today will be 4 hours and 30 minutes and our estimated time of arrival in Athens, Greece is 10:30 AM, local time. We are currently taxiing to the runway and will be taking off shortly. Thank you."
Hearing the announcement ignited my anxiety.
Suddenly, I started sweating and feeling uneasy.
My heart started hammering inside my chest, making it hard to breathe a little.
"Hey, are you alright?"
I heard Valerian call but my mind was blank and all I could feel was nervousness.
I can feel my body soaking up in cold sweat. I was sweating so much even though the air conditioning inside was on full-blown.
"Natasha."
I can hear Valerian calling out my name but I can also hear my rapid heartbeat.
"Hey, hey, you're alright, love." Valerian held my hand firmly snapping me back to reality. "Don't be afraid. I'm here I got you."
His words and touch were so comforting that I felt my heartbeat slowly getting back to its normal pace.
"Take a deep breath," Valerian said which I followed.
I took a deep breath repeatedly to completely calm myself down.
"Are you okay?" Valerian asked.
I nodded. "I didn't know that I would be scared."
"It's okay to be," he reassured. "Have you rode an airplane before?"
I shook my head. "It's my first time."
"That's why." Valerian nodded. "There's no shame in that."
I felt light and my heart was delighted.
"There's nothing to be scared of riding an airplane. You wouldn't even know we're up in the sky," Valerian said.
I pursed my lips.
"I don't know if knowing the fact that we're up in the sky would comfort me."
"Oh, I'm sorry, darling."
I bit the insides of my cheeks.
"Do you want to get off?" Valerian asked.
"What?"
"I would tell you to face your fears but if you're not comfortable, we can get off this jet," he added.
"But, how about your business trip?" and how about me going to Greece? I really want to go to Greece.
"I will drive us to Greece."
I opened my mouth to say something but no word came out.
I stared at Valerian's face for a solid minute, realizing that he was dead serious.
"Really?" I hesitatedly asked.
Valerian nodded without any uncertainty.
"Okay." That was all I managed to say.
He's really serious about it.
I want to ride an airplane because it's one of my dreams but I didn't know that I would get this scared for no reason. I think I really can't do it today.
I guess I will not make my dream of riding an airplane into reality but just like what Valerian said. "It's alright."
Valerian pulled out his phone and dialed. "Good morning, captain. I apologize for the changes but we're getting off. Yes, yes, thank you."
I just stared at Valerian as he made phone calls about canceling the flight and having someone ready his car for us.
Everything is just possible with Valerian Fenrir.
"Are you really driving us to Greece?" I asked Valerian when we got off the jet.
He nodded. "Yes, Natasha."
"Can't you have a driver? You might get tired."
Valerian's face was covered in amusement in a matter of seconds. "Well, I appreciate the concern but you know I don't get tired, Natasha."
I averted my gaze. "If you say so."
A couple of minutes had passed and Valerian's car arrived at the airport where we were.
It's his black Bugatti Veyron.
I knew he was serious when he said he was going to drive to Greece but gosh, he is really really really serious.
The chauffeur helped us to load our luggage in the car.
"You ready?" Valerian asked as I made myself comfortable in the shotgun seat beside him.
I nodded. "Yes."
The next thing I know we're already driving, taking the road down to another country, Greece.
"Are you okay there?" Valerian asked all of a sudden.
"Yes, I'm alright." I turned sideways to look at him. "I should be the one asking you if you're okay. You're driving."
"I am fine, Natasha. I don't get tired."
"How long will it take us to Greece?" I asked.
"Approximately 8 to 10 hours," Valerian answered.
My mouth was left open. "That long?!"
"Well, I'm driving at normal speed."
Right. I just realized that Valerian is driving slowly and so carefully.
I bit the insides of my cheeks as I looked out the window.
"I'm not scared of car drive, Valerian. It's okay," I told him.
He must have been driving so slowly because of what happened earlier in the plane.
"Are you sure?" he asked.
"Of course," I answered as I nodded my head.
Valerian started to speed up his car and yes, I didn't feel any fear or uneasiness.
It was just really the plane.
"Can I roll down the window?" I asked when I noticed the surroundings.
We're currently taking the road down surrounded by tall trees.
"Anything you want, Natasha."
"Wow." I gasped in awe. "It's so green and beautiful.
My mind suddenly wandered to my favorite places in our town. It's almost just like this. Surrounded by tall and beautiful trees.
The way the leaves rustle and the way the branches sway with the wind just give me so much peace but at the same time longing for the place I grew up in.
I miss home.
But I can't also deny that at the back of my mind, I'm thankful that I got to leave home.
I used to resent the mission my father gave me because I felt like all my life, I was caged with all the responsibilities that he gave me. But then again, if it weren't for the mission, I wouldn't get to experience all of these things; I wouldn't have met Elyse; I wouldn't have met Valerian Fenrir and learned what and how he really is.
But the deal is still up. When everything is settled and Valerian is already fulfilled with the happiness he gave to Elyse courtesy of us pretending to love each other-- I will end him. He will give me his life.
My mission will come to an end and will be successful. My connection with Valerian will end and we won't be mates anymore.
I will go home and will have a new mate.
So whatever this is that is going on between me and Valerian right now, it's still part of the deal but I told myself that I will enjoy in Greece and will enjoy my time with him.
Maybe it woudn't be so wrong if I -- for a moment -- will forget that my mission is still on.
