Chapter 56 Supercar Club

Anna's POV:

Mark and Nick both looked over here, their strong presence making anyone feel a bit nervous.

Susan quickly said, "Can we bet on specific racers? How about we go check out them and bet on whoever is the most handsome!"

"Sure!" Jane agreed, and I nodded as well.

The female staff elegantly replied, "Of course, you can. I can also show you their past performances."

We followed her to where the racers were. At this moment, some racers were warming up, and a few shirtless ones were particularly eye-catching.

There were also people moving things around, some checking gloves and racing shoes, and people constantly passing by in front of me.

"Wow, they are really well-built!" Susan whispered in amazement.

I just glanced at the racers working out, but suddenly felt an unpleasant gaze from not far away.

But when I turned my head, the gaze quickly shifted away, as if it just lingered on me briefly.

At this moment, a boy walked over, put his arm around Nick's shoulder, and said to us, "It's rare to see a girl not surrounding Nick and looking at other guys instead!"

"Really?" I asked in surprise.

"Of course, look at them; they were just asking Nick to take pictures with them." The boy gestured with his chin towards a group of pretty girls not far away.

The boy looked at me, then at Nick, as if hinting something to Nick.

I felt a bit nervous and instinctively looked at Nick. But I quickly realized that this might be inappropriate and would only encourage the boy to tease more.

However, Nick averted his gaze,  appearing particularly distant.

At this moment, a young man with dark brown hair passing by smiled at me flirtatiously, "Hey girl, Nick has plenty of girls around him. How about giving me a try?"

As he took out his phone, wanting me to add him, I was still deciding how to respond. The next second, someone suddenly grabbed his wrist.

The man's expression twisted in pain, and he took a sharp breath. "Nick, seriously? It's just a girl."

Nick released his hand after a moment. "Don't bother her again."

Nick's tone was light but extremely intimidating, making me even more nervous.

At this moment, a group of men in the same color racing suits as the man surrounded him.

The one at the front, wearing a captain's suit, had an arrogant expression. "Nick, I heard you studied us and did special training to win this race?"

Clearly, he was deliberately provoking.

I looked at Nick, who admitted frankly, "Yes. You got that right."

The captain sneered, staring at Nick contemptuously, "Your team is just a temporary group. You don't stand a chance against us. Save your energy and focus on opponents that are actually at your level."

Despite the provocation, Nick remained unfazed and just calmly looked at the opposing captain. "It seems you studied my team before the race too.  Then I wish you good luck."

The contempt on the captain's face deepened. "Of course, we can win easily! Nick, you'd better give up. The supercar racing industry is not for you."

The dark brown-haired man also smiled at Nick, "I heard even your father and brother don't support you in this field. Honestly, you should quit early. You're not like us."

By now, a crowd had gathered around. Although their tone still held some politeness and concern, the contempt was undisguised. Belittling Nick in front of so many people was undoubtedly malicious.

I looked at them and retorted, "But every industry has people who start without support and later succeed. So, why can't he try?"

The man laughed louder, "You're too naive. If dreaming were all it took, there would be no losers in the world!"

I remembered what my grandmother taught me, took a deep breath, and mustered the courage to continue, "But what does it matter? Failure isn't determined by others, and how can you know the outcome of something that hasn't even happened yet?"

The captain glanced at me disdainfully, "There are only two outcomes in a race: win or lose. But don't worry, even if Nick loses badly, there will be girls like you rushing to cry for him!"

Many people around laughed, and I bit my lip, almost too embarrassed to speak.

I instinctively took a step forward, wanting to appear more assertive in my rebuttal, but it only drew more attention to me, making me feel even more uncomfortable.

Nick's teammates almost rushed to fight them but were stopped by Nick.

Then, Nick stepped forward, shielding me behind him. "Anna, I will win."

He didn't look back, but his tone was more serious than I had ever heard. His expression must have been serious too.

"You just need to wait for the result after the race," Nick said softly to me.

"Anyone can boast. Don't be too cocky!" the dark brown-haired man said, looking around as if wanting more people to join in the mockery.

"Whatever," Nick said, then walked away with his team. His carefree and unrestrained back drew many people's attention.

After Nick left, the crowd also started agreeing with that man, "Isn't it true? Now even the makeshift teams dare to offend big clubs!"

"Yeah, they were too full of themselves. Without major investment, how can they achieve results while offending seniors?"

I looked at the crowd, feeling a bit disheartened. It seemed this industry valued connections and relationships highly, and everyone was eager to please them. Nick, who offended them, might lose badly today.

At this moment, Mark, who had been busy, came over with his team, with Jane standing behind him. It seemed Jane, worried about the conflict escalating, had gone to get Mark in advance.

Mark said to the crowd, "The race is about to start. Everyone should head to the track and make the most of the time."

Hearing this, the crowd dispersed.

Susan said in surprise, "Anna, you were so brave just now. By the way, when did you and Nick get closer?"

Jane also curiously leaned in, looking eager to listen.

I didn't know how to respond, so I just said, "I don't know. You know, things just got better."

Thinking about Nick's obsessive possessiveness in the past, and especially the time he almost killed me, I didn't know how to describe my relationship with Nick now. Or maybe, it was more about hatred.
