Chapter 102: The Truth Unveiled
Chapter 102: The Truth Unveiled
Cameron’s P.O.V
“How could this have happened?” My father slammed his fists against the wooden table, causing a dent in it.
I’d never seen him have outbursts like this before, but even I was just as furious as him today, maybe even more. We had taken all precautions possible! We had set up guards! We had the Amethyst coven bloody set up magic shields to not let any other witch enter into the pack-house! Then how? How could they so easily take away Freya? How could all of our guards, the witches, and even all of us wolves become sitting ducks while Freya was abducted?
“We had everything in place!” My father said now, reflect my earlier thoughts. “The security was air-tight!”
“Magic cannot be stopped physically.” Sanaya spoke from her seat. “The fog couldn’t enter the pack-house, so they lured us out.”
“But I was right next to Freya!” Sarah managed to stutter out. “But I couldn’t sense her at all! I couldn’t even see her!”
Out of everyone here, Sarah and I were probably the ones most rattled by the situation. Without Freya beside us, both of our wolves were driving us insane, clawing and growling inside my head, wanting to get out. But the hardest part was not being able to sense her at all.
“Someone did come inside the pack-house though…”
It was Aria’s small, hesitant voice that caught our attention.
“Aria, I told you, you must have been mistaken.” Sanaya shushed her instantly, causing me to frown at the interaction.
“What is it?” I asked Aria instead, when Sanaya hesitated. “Tell me!”
“Well…It’s…um…” Aria looked towards Sanaya for backup, who shook her head vehemently. “Nothing?”
“Aria.” It was my mother who went up to the girl and knelt in front of her. “If you have any theories, then please tell us. We’re ready to listen to anything, even if it doesn’t make sense at the moment.”
“F-Freya…” Aria said hesitantly, her eyes on the ground. “She’s a witch too…”
“Freya?” I stood up from the couch to stare down at her incredulously. “What does that have to do with anything? Her powers are sealed since birth!”
“I know…I’m probably wrong…but when we got stuck inside the pack-house, as our powers were turned against us…no one outside the house could’ve done that!” Aria argued. “It had to be someone inside the house! But…the only known witch inside the house was Freya…wasn’t it?”
And that was when another thought hit me. “No!” I told them immediately, before turning to Darcia. “Where’s Maggie?”
“Maggie?” He frowned. “Why would she be here?”
“What do you mean?” My heart thrashed against my rib-cage. “Didn’t you invite her here?”
“No! This was a private party and we’re not that close.” Darcia shook his head immediately. “I didn’t want to invite her here especially since your pack already arranged for the Amethyst coven to be here. It would’ve looked like an insult.”
“But…that’s impossible!” My tongue felt heavy…words got stuck in my mouth as I felt a sense of betrayal towards the woman who I had thought was an ally. “Maggie…she was here last night…Freya and I both saw her…”
“What?” My father sounded just as surprised. “Another witch was able to get in? And none of us had any clue?”
“We knew her.” Sarah piped in. “She was the witch that helped discover Freya’s seal. I thought she was on our side…we all did.”
Darcia and I nodded in confirmation when my father looked at the both of us. “Then how was she able to get in?”
“Wait…” This time, it was Sanaya who interrupted us. “What coven does this friend of yours belong to?”
“What coven?” I looked towards Darcia for help but he shook his head. “I don’t know the coven but she said her name was Margaret Lopez.”
“I’ll search for her in the archives.” My dad went to start his laptop but Sanaya stopped him.
“There’s no need, we already understand why Freya was taken.” She said, much to our astonishment.
“Explain.” My dad commanded; his wolf in his voice.
“Certainly, Alpha.” Sanaya turned to face all of us. “Your friend belonged to the Lorenzic coven, and believe it or not…she’s actually related to Freya by distant blood. You see, a few hundred years ago, the Lorenzic coven, one of the elite covens in our world, produced a pair of twins…a fourteenth witch. Since a coven with more than thirteen members misbalances the power dynamics inside the coven…one of the twins was abandoned upon reaching adulthood.”
“But she felt betrayed by her coven, so she began gathering her own followers, practicing dark magic to increase their powers as a coven…until the twin was able to surpass her origin coven. And then she went after old coven. Twenty five years ago, the Lorenzic coven was attacked and their members killed one by one and their powers absorbed by the new coven members. As the members died out, the new coven began calling themselves the new Lorenzic coven. They are the only witches with the Lopez surname.”
“So if my guess is correct,” Sanaya said finally. “Then Freya’s mother was none other than Faith Lopez, the last surviving member of the true Lorenzic coven. And now…Faith’s daughter, Freya, is the only survivor left…the only source of magic that they haven’t drained.”
“So…you’re telling us, that Freya was take because of her magic?” I asked past the lump in my throat. “She was taken so they could take her magic from her?”
“Yes,” Sanaya confirmed, her face drawn in hard lines. “But that isn’t what concerns me. What concerns me is that Freya’s magic never got an outlet before. It had been sealed right from the beginning. And magic grows with time…it expands and thrives. So what I’m more worried about…is what exactly will happen when her seal is finally broken; that too without proper preparation.”
“Why?” Sarah stood up from her seat to come to stand in front of Sanaya. “What will happen?”
And then Sanaya said the one word that made my heart stop beating inside my chest.
“Death.”
