Chapter 181
Chapter 181
Nyx’s POV
“I’m sorry, Nyx,” she hiccuped, “I'm really sorry,” her face was a mess with tears flooding all her features.
“Save it, Lady Loveth, and to think I once respected and trusted you.” My tone was cold, but I couldn't care less; she had it coming and worse.
“Nyx, believe me when I say everything I did was for the good of our pack.”
“Shut up!!!” I thundered, and it echoed throughout the dungeon.
That was the last straw,
“You almost killed a babe, and your excuse is that it's for the pack? Who are you kiddin,g Loveth?” I snarled, exposing my fangs, my eyes glowing brightly with rage.
“Nyx, believe me, please.”
“Just shut it, you disgust me, trying to justify your actions? You're supposed to own up to it,” I yelled, and sped my way to her, as my hand found its place around her neck.
Staring at her face did a very good job fueling my rage, as I tightened my grip, till I felt my claws digging deep into her skin, drawing a thin line of blood.
She was surprisingly quiet, almost like she had resigned to her fate.
I shut my eyes tightly and released my grip, making her fall to the ground.
Despite the rage boiling in me and the urge to strangle the life out of her, she had once upon a time been a mother figure to Astra and me.
The memories we once shared flashed before my eyes, and my chest tightened. I felt like a thousand needles were piercing through my heart, all at once.
“You didn't do it alone. Who helped you?” I asked after I was able to calm myself down after a brief second of silence.
“It doesn't matter,”
“I'm working on a really thin line of patience here, Loveth, tread carefully,”
“Who helped you?” I asked slowly, emphasizing my words.
“Nyx,”
“Do not dare me,”
“Ursula,” she muttered slowly under her breath.
I rolled my eyes and scoffed.
She only just put words to the conclusion I came to already; she couldn't do her dirty work, so she sent someone else.
Classic Ursula.
“What was it? What motivated you to do it?”
“Like I said before,” she tilted her head sideways, “I did it for the pack,”
Without sparing her one last glance, I turned around and walked out of the dungeon.
I feared that if I had spent even a second more there, her head would have rolled off her neck.
Her lies sickened me. I ran my hand through my hair as I walked up the stairs.
I got to the room and met Madelyn there, cuddling Elio.
“Hey,” I whispered, as I hugged her from behind.
Tomorrow, justice would be met, for today, we sleep. It has been one hell of a day.
My eyelids fluttered open as soon as the first ray of light flooded the room.
Besides me, Madelyn lay peacefully, her curled eyelashes hugging each other tightly.
I eased myself off the bed quietly, careful not to disturb her or Elio.
I emerged from the bathroom a few minutes later to see Madelyn seated on the edge of the bed, her hair a mess.
“You didn't really think you'd leave without me, did you?”
“Babe,”
“Don't, I'm coming with, and that's final,”
I sighed and ran the dryer through my hair. There was no point arguing with the lady. When she was determined, there was no stopping her. I had learnt that the hard way, though.
I quickly slipped my clothes on while she walked towards the bathroom.
A soft knock rapped on the door as soon as she was done dressing up.
“Come on in,” she muttered softly.
“Your majesties,” Zimora bowed as she stepped into the room.
I nodded at her curtly and took my eyes away from her.
“Take Elio,” Madelyn nudged at the cot, “Take good care of my baby Zi. I'd be busy today.”
Zimora nodded and skidded past us, towards the cot.
Once that was settled, I took her hand in mine, and together we walked out of the room, the guards at the door fell in place behind us, one destination in mind.
Usurla’s room.
Without bothering to knock, I turned the doorknob and stepped into the room. She was pacing about, with Sylvia seated comfortably on the edge of the bed.
“What are you doing here, Nyx?” She halted in her steps and folded her arms across her chest.
“Are you here to accuse me further?” she added, before I could even give her an answer to the initial question.
“Accuse you?” I raised my brows at her, “The audacity, Usurla,” I scoffed.
“I should have known this whole time that you were nothing but a sly snake.”
“Nyx, I have had about enough of this nonsense,” she snapped, taking a step closer to me, but Madelyn stepped in between us.
“And I've gotten enough of your pretense; it sickens me,” she tilted her head sideways.
“Young girl…”
“Point those fingers at me again, and chopping them off alone would be a mercy,” Madelyn's voice had dropped to a dangerous calm, her expression as cold as her tone.
“You know it's funny,” Madelyn moved away, “I know you sent Kent to Kieran, but I really can't see why, seeing as they're nowhere to be found,” she gestures at the room, her lips curved into a sly smile.
I peered intently at Usurla’s face. There was a flicker, but it disappeared almost as it started, and was followed by a cackle.
The expression on her face gave way to a mocking smile.
“So what if I did?” She threw her hands up dramatically and stepped back.
“I mean, you were so gullible and desperate for a mother's love, so I took advantage of that,”
Something snapped in me as I sped to her, wrapping my hand tightly around her neck, so tight, blood spluttered out of her mouth and nose.
“That's enough,” Madelyn patted my arm gently, and I released her.
“You're pathetic, Nyx,” she coughed out, as soon as she landed on the ground, “you're not worthy to be a king, you're not deserving of the love you found,” she gestured at Madelyn.
“Your whole existence is a mistake,”
I shut my eyes tightly and walked towards another corner of the room.
“Do well to watch your mouth, or you might join your pal, in the comforts of the dungeon,” Madelyn crouched beside her.
She chuckled loudly for a while, her once white teeth now stained with blood.
“You both will pay for this disrespect when my son, the rightful heir, becomes king…
“Hold that thought,” A very familiar voice called out, followed by the throwing open of the door.
“Ke…” she stopped halfway, as her eyes fell on the man who had accompanied Kent.
All her boldness and conviction seemed to melt away at the moment, and for the first time that morning, I saw it, a glint of fear, right there, in her eyes.
