Chapter 182

The tension in the room was so thick it could almost be sliced with a knife. Everyone had frozen in silence, not a word was spoken, as eyes darted around the room.

The main characters were all present, the truth was unravelling, and yet, no one knew how to approach the matter.

Usurla’s face was drained of all its colour, almost as if she had seen a ghost. She clenched her fist tightly at her sides to control the way her hands were trembling. She gulped hard occasionally, to wet her parched throat, her heart pounding loudly across her chest.

Her eyes travelled around the room, and she wished the ground would open up and swallow her.  Just a while ago, she had been so confident that no harm could be done to her plans again, but in just the blink of an eye, oh, how the tables have turned.

“Wh.. what is going on here?” Madelyn finally broke the ice after a few minutes of being so stunned to speak

Her gaze was fixed intently on the stranger in the room.

Who was he? And why was he here? And why did Usurla’s expression change on sighting him?

That happened to be the question running through the minds of everyone present in the room.

Nyx had his head tilted sideways as he stared with an amused smile on his face at his stepmother.

Sylvia adjusted herself on the bed; from the look of things, she was enjoying whatever it was that was going on.

Ken,t on the other hand, wasn’t fazed at all. There was a malicious glint in his eyes as he glared daggers at his mother.

“I think the best person to answer your question, Madelyn, would be mother dearest here,” Kent gestured at his mother.

Usurla staggered back.

“What’s wrong, mother?” Kent’s lips curved into a wide smirk, “You look like you had just seen a ghost.”

“Okay, I think I’m enjoying this,” Nyx muttered softly, winking at Madelyn, before taking a seat.

From the looks of it, they were in for a very long morning.

“It’s been a while, Koa,” the stranger finally spoke, his voice calm and calculated, with a tinge of old age.

Ursula felt like her body would give way under her wobbly knees; she felt knots tighten in the depths of her stomach.

This was one person she wasn’t expecting to see.

“El… Elias,” she stuttered.

Madelyn exchanged glances with Nyx, an amused smile plastered on her face as well.

“What a surprising turn of events,” she whispered under her breath, as she settled into a chair beside Nyx.

“Can someone at least tell us what’s going on here?” Sylvia blurted out without realising, drawing attention to her. She covered her mouth with her palm and lowered her gaze.

“How… how are you here?”

“I’ve missed you, Usurla,” Elias' lips curved into a smile, as he ignored her question.

“Mother, why don’t you tell everyone here of your steamy affair with Elias here?” Kent chipped in; his expression hadn’t softened even the littlest bit.

“Kent,”

“Don’t use that tone with me,” he cut her off sternly, “You fucking lied to me,” he added, more calmly than he actually felt.

He had spent this whole time trying to keep himself composed, to keep his emotions at bay, but just now something snapped he felt his chest tightening even as he stared at his mother.

“Why? Why did you do it?”

“I…”

“Why did you pump all those lies into me? Why did you turn me into something I wasn’t? You took Oriane from me, you took me from a life I had come to know, to what end, mother? For your own selfish interests,” He paused, and swallowed hard, tears pooling in his eyes.

“The stories you fed me as a kid,” he took a step closer with her, his whole body trembling with rage, his blood boiling, “All lies, twenty years, for twenty years, you sang the same tune in my ears, I grew up believing them, I was never the right heir to the throne, and you knew that,” he yelled, and the tears, finally slipped down his throne,

“And rather than make peace, you turned me against an innocent man, to what end

mother?” he sniffed, and cocked his head sideways.

“You turned me into the villain while making me feel like the hero, the whole time.”

“I did it for you,”  Usurla snapped finally, after taking more than enough from Kent. There was no point trying to deny it; the truth was out there already.

“Yes, Kent, I did it for you so that you could have a better life, I did it…”

“Cut the crap, Usurla, you did it for you. You never once had me in your thoughts when you made your plans; all you ever wanted was power. I was only just a means to an end.”

“You denied me the privilege of ever getting to my father; all these years, I mourned a man who had no connection whatsoever with me.

“The boy’s right, Usurla, you really did a number on him,” Elias spoke softly.

“Stay out of this,” Ursula warned sternly, tears flowing down her cheeks freely. She refused to believe it just yet, but she knew the end was here.

If her own son could turn against her, then there was nothing saving her from the horrors to come.

Sylvia watched quietly from her spot, silently pitying Kent, who had been used like a pawn by his own mother.

They were now more or less in the same boat. Still, a part of her wanted to slip out of the room and run away, never to be found, even though deep down, there was this yearning to reach out for Kent and hold him in her arms.

She decided she was going to stay, just for the thrill of it; she was going to watch them put Usurla in her place once and for all, and that alone was a big win for her.

“You’re evil,” Kent spat, his voice laced with venom; he was seething with rage.

“Watch your tone, kid, I am still your mother,”

“No,” Kent shook his head slowly, “You lost that right,” he added calmly, and walked out of the room.
