Chapter 172
Chapter 172
Ursula’s POV
“If I had known you were this incompetent, maybe I should have just left you where you were to rot.”
“What do you mean by he rejected your advances, huh?”
I stared with disgust written all over me at the bitch who was on her knees. “Sylvia, you were brought here for a single purpose, and if you can’t carry out that simple task, I’m afraid we no longer have any use for you. I might as well just throw you inside the junction.”
“I’m sorry, your majesty,” she rubbed her hands together
“Once last chance, please, I promise not to mess it up this time,”
“You wouldn’t dare, we are running out of time, so this night, you need to make him want you, use that body of yours to get what you want, it’s not going to be the first time after all.”
I watched as her face sank, but it didn’t really matter, I was a woman on a mission, nd there was nothing to stop me.
Anyone who dared stand in my path would be eliminated, irrespective of their status or relationship with me.
“Get out of my sight now, I’m sick of your face,” I took a sip from the glass in my hand, and she scrambled to her feet and ran off.
So incompetent, how did I end up surrounded by people like this in my space? The only consolation I had was in the fact that they were only just a means to an end, after which I would properly dispose of them.
The door creaked open, and Kent stepped.
“I saw Sylvia on my way with teary eyes. What happened?”
“Nothing much,” I shrugged and tilted my head sideways, “I just scolded her a bit for not understanding her job description.”
“Mother…”
“Not now, Kent,” I held my hand up to bring to an end whatever it was he had to say.
“Now is not the time, we can’t afford to go soft on people, we need to show them who’s in charge, to avoid them going out of line.”
“The least you can do, mother, is at least treat them with respect and human dignity, he snapped at me.
“You’ll do well to watch the tone with which you speak to me,” I sipped from my glass and crossed my legs.
He sighed and ran his hand through his hair. “All I am saying is that you show a little bit of compassion to these people as well; they might be beneath you in status, but they’re still living beings,”
“Since when did you start getting invested in the way I treat others, or is this specifically about Sylvia?” I eyed him suspiciously, and there was a glint in his eyes.
“What do you mean?”
“Sit down, Kent. I see the way you look at her, with affection in your eyes; you’re in love with her,”
“Come off it, mum, stop imagining nonexistent things,” he waved his hands dismissively.
“You had better be right, Kent. I don’t want someone like her for a daughter-in-law. Besides, you need to remain focused on the task at hand.”
“Whatever,” he cocked his head to the side, as he spoke lazily.
He couldn’t be wiser than me, I knew him like the back of my palm, this was the same way he was with Oriane, before he asked her out, and this was the same response he gave me when I talked to him about it.
I had let that one slide, cause I figured he needed some semblance of peace in his life at that point, but I wasn’t going to let this one slide so easily, which was why I had to nip it in the bud. If it all comes down to it, I’d eliminate Sylvia rather than let my son find himself in love with her.
“You didn’t call me all the way down here to lecture me on my love life, now did you?” he smirked, as he walked over to the minibar and poured himself a drink.
“Of course I didn’t. The crowning ceremony, from what I’ve heard so far, is in a few days, so reach out to Kieran and tell him to make sure his men are ready to storm the palace.”
He nodded slowly and took a sip of the drink.
War was coming, I could almost taste it on the tip of my tongue. The atmosphere was changing, and tension had become thick.
I just had to play my cards right now, and everything else would fall into place.
“You’ll go into hiding soon, I’ll see to it.”
His eyes widened, and his hand froze midway to his mouth. “Go into hididng? For what reason?” he arched his brows in confusion.
“Are you cray? There’s a war brewing, a war where you’re at the center, and you’re asking why you’re supposed to go into hiding?”
“Mother,” he called gently, “All my life I’ve been hiding, I’m not doing that anymore. What kind of King would I be if at the first sign of trouble, my first initiative is to run and hide, huh?”
“Listen to me, Kent,”
“No, mother, you listen to me, okay? I am done hiding, it’s time I faced my battle head-on,”
“You’re going to get killed,”
“Then so be it,” he snapped, and I sighed. There was nothing I could say at this point.
The young man had made his decision; if he was going to remain so stubborn, then so be it. I just had to make sure he was safe even while on the battlefield. If he died, then the aim of the war would have been defeated.
A soft knock rapped on the door.
“Come on in.” The door creaked open, and Lady Loveth stepped in. She nodded slightly at Kent, who dropped his glass and stormed out of the room.
“Lady Loveth,”
“Queen Usurla,” she replied almost immediately, and I raised my brows at her.
“They’re ready,” she muttered, and I leaned back into the chair, as my lips curved into a smile.
