Chapter 142 Chapter 142
LAST RESORT

SERAPHINA’S POV

I closed the door behind me and leaned against it, my back pressed hard against the wood.

My chest felt tight. It was as if my lungs had closed up. I could not breathe properly. My hands were shaking, and my mind was spinning with fear.

“Seraphina, is everything alright?” Lila asked, stepping closer with a worried look on her face.

But unfortunately, I could not say a word. My throat felt dry.

The image of Ezekiel talking with Lucas in the hallway kept flashing in my head. If they were discussing the letter I had sent, or worse, the rogues, then everything I had worked for was finished.

I began to wonder what to do. I could not let Lucas expose us. But I could not go out there either. The brothers were already suspicious. One wrong move and they would turn on me.

“Goddess help me,” I whispered. “I’m finished.”

“Come and sit down,” Lila said gently. She took my arm and helped me walk to the chair near the window. I sank into it, feeling weak and defeated.

She hurried away and returned with a glass of water.

I took it from her with trembling hands and took a slow sip. The cool liquid helped a little, but I couldn't stop fearing for the unknown.

“Now tell me,” Lila said as she sat down beside me.

“What happened? Why do you look so pale all of a sudden? And…” She paused and looked at me from head to toe. “Why are you dressed as a guard?”

I gulped and pointed a finger at the door.

“Lucas,” I said.

“What about Lucas?” Lila blurted, clearly surprised.

I told her everything. How I had seen Lucas outside the hall talking with Ezekiel. How angry Ezekiel looked. And how I was scared they might have discovered the fake letter or the plan with the rogues.

Lila listened quietly, then placed a hand on my knee. “Take a deep breath,” she said. “You are panicking too much.”

I sipped the water again, trying to calm myself.

“Why is Ezekiel angry with Lucas?” Lila asked.

I could not believe my ears. If I did not know Lila for a long time, I would have thought she was a fool. The heck with such a question.

“Are you in your right senses at all?” I said, turning my gaze to her sharply.

“Of course I am. Why would you say that?”

“Because you’re asking stupid questions!” I snapped. “Ezekiel is with Lucas right now. The same Lucas I used in the fake letter. If they find out I lied, I’m finished! What's so difficult for you to understand?”

Lila scoffed and shook her head. As if she found it funny.

“Listen, I understand your fears,” Lila said calmly. “But you don’t need to worry about Lucas. You should think of the rogues instead.”

“Why shouldn’t I worry about Lucas?” I asked, turning fully to her, my eyes blazing with fury.

“Because I’ve already settled with Lucas,” Lila blurted and I widened my eyes in shock.

“What?”

“Yes. That’s why I haven’t been around the pack house. Since you left, I decided to search for Lucas. I found him asleep in his chamber. I took him to the woods, and we had a long talk. He agreed to stay quiet. He won’t say anything about the letter or the plan.”

I stared at her in surprise. For a moment, I wondered why I had been so afraid. Lila had handled Lucas. She had done what I could not.

I turned and pulled into a tight hug. “Thank you,” I whispered. “I don’t know what I would have done without you.”

“It’s fine,” Lila said, patting my back. “But that doesn’t clear all our problems. The rogues are still in the Alpha heirs’ custody.”

My excitement vanished instantly. Lila was right.

Even though Lucas had been handled, one big problem was still there. And that's the rogues.

"What should we do about this?" I asked myself with a deep frown on my face.

“I think I have an idea,” Lila said after a while of silence.

I turned to her swiftly. “What’s the idea?”

“There are two options. The first one is for you to approach the Alpha heirs as their childhood friend and convince them to let the rogues go. Tell them it might cause an unexpected war.”

I scoffed and shook my head instantly.

“That’s a bad idea,” I said. “None of them will listen. In fact, they will be praying for the war to come if it means protecting Tiana.”

“If that doesn’t work, then you approach their father, the Alpha,” Lila continued. “I believe he would listen to reason.”

“Have you ever heard the saying, like father like son?” I asked, raising a brow at her.

Lila thought about it for a moment, unable to say a word. Just when I was about to say something, Lila turned to me sharply and continued.

“Then if that doesn’t work, you can take the last option,” Lila said.

“Which is…?”

“Convince Tiana and her mother instead. Both of them have soft hearts. If you use the right words, they will listen. And when they do, you know the Alpha and his sons won’t object.”

I nodded my head slowly as her words sank into my head.

How come I had not thought about this before? I'm not really close to the Luna, so that option felt impossible. But Tiana? She was an easy target.

I stood up from the chair, feeling a new wave of determination.

“I will talk to Tiana,” I said. “She is the weakest link. If I can make her beg her Alpha heirs to release the rogues, then they will have no choice but to agree.”

Lila smiled. “That’s my girl, but be careful. Don’t push too hard. Make her feel like you are on her side.”

“I know what to do.” I said with a nod.

For the first time since the rogues were caught, I felt hope again. The plan was not completely dead. I still had a chance to turn everything around.

And Tiana? She would definitely help me destroy herself.
