Chapter 100: What Will I Find Out?

Chapter 100: What Will I Find Out?
Alpha King Caspian's POV:

I wasn't exactly sure what I was going to find from this video as it started to play. I just knew in the back of my mind that, despite the fact that I needed a moment to step away, there was something about it that seemed to be rather important. Beta Maxwell would not have brought it to my attention otherwise.

"I do hope you're ready to get started," I heard Beta Maxwell say on the screen as I leaned forward and adjusted the volume, turning it up to where I could hear the man's response the background.

When I first heard him speak, I happened to notice that his voice was rather deep. You could tell the oldness to it a bit.

"I am," said the man with confidence. It was at that moment that I leaned forward once more, pressing the button on the keyboard so I could stop it from playing for a brief moment as I looked over at Beta Maxwell and asked him a question, "Hemming?"

"Sir? Oh yes, Your Highness," Beta Maxwell finally responded as he nodded his head several times, confirming the fact as to what the man's name was.

I nodded as I reached forward again, pressing the button once more to let the video continue playing.

"However, I do have one small request," Hemming spoke as he continued.

As I continued to watch this, you would usually see a sort of arrogance in the demeanor or tone of one particular individual while they were captive. I didn't gather any such vibe from this particular individual. Although this was a captive, I still needed to determine for myself who this individual was and whether he posed a threat to our grand nation.

"What is your request?" Beta Maxwell asked in return on the video.

"Well, you know my name already," Hemming spoke with the utmost confidence. "I would appreciate it if I knew who I was talking to as well. Would you mind telling me your name?"

I pursed my lips together in agreement. He was right to know who he was speaking with, and I didn't see an issue with that. I, on the other hand, would've introduced myself no sooner than I sat down. However, Beta Maxwell seemed to be a bit more reserved in his line of questioning, as I'm sure several questions would be coming.

"Very well, my name is Beta Maxwell. You may refer to me as Beta Maxwell too. I am the Beta and second-in-command of all you see before you. His Highness is the rightful ruler of this nation and the most powerful Alpha that I have seen in a very long time. I only answer to Him. Does that about cover the introductions?"

"Yes, I appreciate your position as well," Hemming responded as I watched him lean forward and place both his bound hands on the front edge of the table. He even raised his chin slightly when he spoke next. "I don't mind telling you about who I am. The fact that you know my name is Hemming is one thing. The thing you don't know is that I was the Alpha of my pack, my Beta... on the other hand, wasn't so lucky. He was one of the ones who traveled with me to the rival nation. He was killed in the ambush right on their side of the border."

"Will that's rather unfortunate," I said, leaning forward once again and pressing the as I furrowed my brows at the statement he made this time. Once the video was paused, I looked over at Beta Maxwell. "Tell me, what was the last time we sent anyone outside to the rival nation?"

It was at this precise moment that I noticed Beta Maxwell seemed to get a wee bit nervous. It wasn't his usual demeanor, so I knew there was something he had yet to tell me. Something I didn't know if I was going to like.

"Well... You see..." Beta Maxwell started to say as he leaned forward, interlocking his fingers and holding his hands so tight together that you could see the whiteness of his knuckles as he tightened his grip on each of his hands. "It was..."

"You're not in any trouble, Beta Maxwell," I said as I leaned back in my chair and raised my chin up to one side, leaning my head over slightly, trying to figure out why he was a bit reluctant to want to tell me the information that I was asking.

"Very well, Your Highness," he said this time as he closed his eyes for a brief moment, trying to recompose himself. Whenever he opened his eyes, he blew out a slow, deep breath as he looked at me directly. "It was around 18 years ago, Your Highness."

After I heard his words, my brows furrowed, and my expression changed. My lips even parted slightly, but no words came out. I didn't know what to think. I didn't know what to say that moment. I was still leaning back in my chair, and that's when Beta Maxwell stood up to his feet and walked out closer to my desk again, reaching out to hit me when he spoke next.

"I understand the cautiousness, Your Highness," Beta Maxwell said, his voice sounded a bit nervous but still trying to project confidence. "However, he will explain. Hemming will explain... everything. And I do mean everything!"

"I hope for your sake, and his, but you are correct," I said, just as he pressed, as I interlocked my fingers and placed my elbows on the front edge of my chair as I leaned forward slightly.

I didn't exactly know what I was going to find out in this particular video, but if it had anything to do with my mate, as I had found her today of all days. I was already more than frustrated, as well as my Wolf, Cash, and neither of us was pleased with the conditions in which she was treated.

"You used to be an Alpha?" I heard the shock in Beta Maxwell's voice come across the laptop speakers.

I could tell by the sound he seemed rather shocked about this, and my eyes went wide. That was the last thing I expected to hear.

"Of which pack?"

"The Blue Moon Pack, to be precise," Hemming spoke, his tone sounding confident.

I nearly came unglued. And that's when I saw Beta Maxwell raise both of his hands in front of himself as I stood up to my feet at this precise moment.

"You have got to be kidding me," I said, reaching forward and ripping the front edge of my desk just as Beta Maxwell pressed on the 's that I wouldn't miss anything.

"I understand the frustration behind this, Your Highness," Beta Maxwell said as he again raised his hands in a defensive posture.

I could feel my anger rising to the surface, and I knew Cash didn't like the sound of it either.

"Your Highness, from everything that I have understood, this man disappeared 18 years ago. I only ask for your patience. Hear him out, please."
