Chapter 133: Do You Want to Eat Me Instead?
Sophia sat on the single sofa in the master bedroom.
She stared at the three dishes and one soup in front of her.
They were all her favorites.
She was about to start eating when Benjamin's forlorn expression flashed in her mind. It reminded her of a dog abandoned by its owner.
She asked Laura, "Is he here?"
"Yes!"
Laura responded with a relieved smile. "Mr. Taylor hasn't had lunch yet. Should I ask him to join you?"
Sophia blinked and cleared her throat to hide her emotions.
"Alright. I don't have much appetite. It'd be a waste if I can't finish it."
She said this to Laura deliberately.
She hoped Laura would pass the message to Benjamin that she wasn't inviting him because she wanted his company but simply because she couldn't finish the meal alone.
Laura, thrilled, dashed out of the room.
Benjamin changed his clothes. He was about to change his dressing. He planned to stay in the study for the rest of the day.
Knock, knock.
The door was open. Laura knocked on it and said at the door, "Sir, Mrs. Taylor asked if you would join her for lunch."
It was more like afternoon tea.
Benjamin raised an eyebrow, and his face beamed with joy.
"Join her for lunch?
"Did she say that herself?"
Laura gave a big smile and nodded vigorously. "Yes, Mrs. Taylor is waiting for you."
With a snap, Benjamin closed the lid of the first aid kit.
"I'm on my way."
He decided to skip changing the dressing. Nothing was more important than dining with Sophia.
In the master bedroom, Sophia was sitting on the sofa in a white silk nightgown.
She stared at the dishes on the table and swallowed eagerly.
She was starving.
Benjamin was so slow.
Just then, Benjamin strode into the room.
In no time, he was standing before her.
"Couldn't wait?" he teased.
He pulled a chair to sit down. His handsome face was full of delight and anticipation.
Sophia stared at Benjamin.
She noted that he had changed out of his formal suit into a creamy white turtleneck sweater and tan casual pants. He looked clean and gentle.
Her gaze then fell on his bandaged right hand.
Clearly, he had treated his wound, but the bandage was stained with some yellowish substance.
"Why is your bandage dirty?" Sophia asked with a frown.
Benjamin instinctively hid his injured hand behind his back. "I might have rubbed against something."
Laura brought Benjamin some utensils.
She didn't want to intrude on their moment and discreetly left the room.
"You must be hungry. Let's eat," Benjamin said gently as if speaking to a child.
Sophia was indeed hungry. She picked up a piece of passion fruit rib and placed it on her plate.
The light yellow sauce covering the ribs caught her eye.
That sauce looked suspiciously similar to the stain on Benjamin's bandage.
Wait.......
She looked up at Benjamin, who was sipping fish soup across from her.
Did he make all these dishes?
Benjamin noticed Sophia glancing between the ribs and him.
He put down his spoon and teased with a smirk, "Do you want to eat me instead?"
Sophia asked seriously, "Why aren't you going back to the office?"
He usually returned to the office after lunch. Why not today?
Benjamin frowned.
What did she mean?
Was she trying to chase him away?
He waved his injured hand and replied, "I'm injured. I took sick leave."
Sophia nodded and then pressed on, "What were you busy with downstairs?"
"Stitching my wound," Benjamin answered earnestly. Though puzzled by her questions, he answered them all and even took the opportunity to play the pity card. "You know I'm afraid of pain. It took me a long time to deal with it."
Sophia, lips pursed, suddenly stood up from the sofa. "Ouch," she winced, feeling a tug at her injured ankle.
"What are you doing?"
Benjamin quickly stood up and extended his arm to support her by the waist.
"Don't move around."
Sophia leaned into his embrace, her nose brushing against his collarbone.
He smelled of olive oil and a faint hint of passion fruit.
So, he did make this meal.
Benjamin was Lucas. Lucas cooked, and so did Benjamin.
"Sophia?"
Benjamin looked down at the dazed Sophia and touched her forehead with concern. "Are you feeling unwell?"
Sophia shook her head and coldly pushed Benjamin away.
Benjamin was confused.
"There's sunshine here, II want to sit here."
Sophia pointed to the spot next to Benjamin's chair where the sunlight streamed in.
