Chapter 134: Mr. Taylor Loves You

Benjamin stared intently at Sophia. He suddenly extended his arm and pulled her single sofa right next to his chair.

They were now side by side.

"Sit."

Benjamin pretended to be composed to hide his inner excitement.

Sophia blinked and obediently sat down.

Benjamin felt a surge of disbelief. Sophia had her head down, and he could only see her long, curly hair. His heart raced with joy.

This was the first time she had willingly approached him since she had discovered his deception.

Sophia looked up at Benjamin, who was still standing, "Why are you standing?"

Benjamin snapped out of his daze. He lost the stern and cold demeanor he usually had with others. He sat beside Sophia and nervously gripped his own knee.

Sophia continued eating.

Benjamin didn't disturb her. However, his injured hand made it difficult to hold the fork, and he struggled to pick up a piece of rib.

How did he manage to cook with such an injured hand?

Did he endure the excruciating pain?

Sophia felt a pang of guilt.

Just when Benjamin failed to pick up the food for the nth time, Sophia picked up the rib and placed it on his plate.

Then she added some chicken and broccoli.

After helping him, Sophia acted as if nothing had happened.

She continued her meal nonchalantly.

Benjamin couldn't help but smile as he looked at the food she had given him.

They ate in quiet harmony.

Three dishes and one soup were just right for the two of them.

Laura and a maid came in to clear the table.

Benjamin watched Sophia take her medicine.

"You can take a nap. I have a meeting later."

"I've taken my medicine. What about you?" Sophia asked. She didn't demand anything and just pretended to ask casually.

Before Benjamin could respond, Laura handed him his medicine.

"Sir, here are your pills."

Benjamin disliked taking medicine but valued his health. He lived a lifestyle of exercise and a light diet. Even when he caught a cold, he recovered soon, so he rarely took any medication.

Sophia looked at him with her beautiful eyes and said softly, "Patients should listen to their doctors."

Her implication was clear. She took her medicine, so he should too.

Benjamin stared at Sophia.

When she glared, her eyes looked like those of a doe. They were adorable, pure, and charming.

He drank a glass of water and swallowed the pills in front of her.

Sophia was pleased with his compliance. She smiled softly as she tried to stand up from the single sofa.

Benjamin placed the glass back on Laura's tray, walked over to Sophia, and bent down to scoop her up in his arms.

"Huh?"

Sophia let out a surprised sound.

Benjamin carried her in large strides to the soft bed.

Sophia leaned against the headboard and caught a glimpse of Benjamin's injured hand.

His hand...

"Get some rest," Benjamin said. He tucked her in under the covers.

As Benjamin stood up, Sophia reached out and tugged on his clothes.

"Benjamin..."

He looked down at her, his eyes filled with confusion and delight.

What was going on?

Why was she suddenly so clingy?

Benjamin gently held her soft hand, "Do you want me to stay with you?"

"No," Sophia responded coldly.

"Your bandage is dirty. Remember to change it."

She quickly pulled her hand back and hid under the covers.

Benjamin looked at the small lump under the covers and smiled indulgently.

Leaning in close, he spoke in a deep, magnetic tone.

"Alright, honey."

Sophia's eyes widened in shock.

What did he just call her?

Blushing furiously, she kicked off the covers and was about to scold him, but Benjamin had already left the room.

The maid finished tidying up and left.

Laura closed the curtains to ensure Sophia could nap undisturbed.

"Madam, have a good rest, just call me if you need anything."

Laura bowed respectfully before turning to leave.

"Laura."

Sophia called her back.

Laura turned and asked, "Yes, madam?"

Sophia clutched the covers, her fingers twisting the smooth fabric.

"Did Benjamin make the lunch?"

She knew Laura would cover for Benjamin, but as the housekeeper of Oakleaf Estates, Laura would know the answer.

Laura frowned slightly, looking troubled, "Well..."

"Don't lie to me. I smelled olive oil and passion fruit on him, and his bandage had rib sauce on it.

"Those details have told me the truth."

She just wanted someone to confirm her suspicions.

"..."

Laura lowered her gaze, contemplating.

Benjamin had done so much for Sophia. Perhaps they could reconcile if she knew the truth.

"Madam, Mr. Taylor has been cooking all your meals recently.

"Your refusal to eat really scared him.

"He knows you like his cooking, so even with his busy schedule, he makes time to cook for you. He's been doing this for the past two weeks. He's really a good husband."

If not for genuine love, Benjamin wouldn't push himself so hard.

In high society, it was good enough for a husband to hire a good chef for his wife. But Benjamin was hands-on when it came to Sophia.

If he hadn't come back every noon to cook, Sophia would have been bullied by Kimberly and Charlotte.

Sophia clutched the covers tightly, her eyes misting, and her heart felt heavy.

She thought Benjamin had only cooked this meal.

"Madam, Mr. Taylor loves you."

Love?

Sophia lowered her eyes, her lashes trembling slightly.

To others, Benjamin loved her

But why did it all feel so unreal to her?

How long would his kindness last?

Could she really trust Benjamin again?

...

She was afraid that he would fail her again if she gave him her heart once more.
