Chapter 116 Evidence
After saying that, Joanna left.
Angelo followed behind her, giving Chris and Nicole a warning look.
Peter stayed behind to handle the dispute.
On the way back, Angelo drove: "I'll take you home first. Don't overthink this. Maybe Cynthia deliberately framed you. Once we find evidence, the Coopers won't have anything to say."
Joanna nodded. She knew that evidence was what they needed most right now, which was why she didn't want to stay there arguing with Chris.
But she couldn't just go home now and pretend nothing had happened.
After thinking for a moment, she said: "The café isn't far anyway. Could you come with me, Angelo? Let's see if there's anything we can do."
Angelo didn't refuse.
The two of them went back to the café. The staff still remembered Joanna as the culprit, so their attitude was quite unfriendly.
Only after Angelo gave them a tip did they answer questions seriously.
"It was too chaotic at the time. We didn't notice the specific details. When it happened, this lady and that pregnant woman were standing together. The atmosphere was bad from the start of their conversation. Obviously they were rivals in love. Who else but her would harm a pregnant woman?"
Angelo's expression turned serious: "So none of you saw clearly, yet you accused her of hurting the pregnant woman? No evidence, no proof, no video?"
The staff member was scared by his angry demeanor and mumbled: "Well, everyone thought that way. I wasn't the only one accusing her."
Joanna laughed bitterly and said: "Let me remind you - pinning the blame on me without evidence is slander. I can sue you and this shop. Also, if your shop doesn't have surveillance, surely the street cameras or dashcams nearby recorded what happened?"
The staff member shook her head, realizing neither of them were pushovers, and didn't dare say anything more.
Joanna was somewhat disappointed but didn't continue pressing the staff member.
She and Angelo sat back down at their original spot, looking out the window and recalling the scene.
"There's no way I would harm Cynthia. I don't care about Chris anymore. My only purpose in meeting her today was to get back my divorce certificate. She picked the location, she asked to meet me, and she kept provoking me the whole time..."
Angelo interrupted her: "So this was very likely a setup staged by Cynthia herself."
Joanna looked confused: "But she waited so long for this baby to be with Chris. There's no reason for her to harm the child. What if she loses the baby and Chris won't marry her?"
Angelo was silent for a moment, then figured out Cynthia's thinking: "Maybe she's trying to make Chris feel guilty. Just having the baby wouldn't make Chris focus all his attention on Cynthia. It might even make him frequently remember that accidental night, causing him to avoid being around Cynthia. But if Cynthia has a miscarriage because of your revenge and his mistake, the guilt over this life would force him to take responsibility and marry Cynthia."
Otherwise, Cooper Corporation's reputation would be damaged, and the Coopers and Cynthia's parents wouldn't allow Chris to be an irresponsible father.
That explanation made sense.
Joanna could only marvel inwardly that Cynthia was someone ruthless to others and even more ruthless to herself.
"Now it seems Cynthia has achieved her goal. If we can't produce evidence, Chris will probably hate me to death and take revenge on me out of guilt toward Cynthia."
Joanna grabbed her hair in frustration. As she looked out the window, she suddenly got excited: "That car!"
Angelo looked in the direction she was pointing.
"Angelo! That car seems to have been there since Cynthia and I arrived. Its dashcam might have recorded some evidence!"
By the roadside, several cars were parked. Some had driven away, others were still there.
Joanna excitedly ran out, and Angelo quickly followed.
They contacted the car owners and got two incomplete videos.
The dashcam footage wasn't very clear, and the angles were awkward, only capturing half a body.
But pieced together, they showed Joanna was innocent.
She hadn't touched Cynthia at all. Instead, Cynthia had knocked the coffee cup to the ground herself and then lost her balance in the panic.
Joanna quickly uploaded the videos to her cloud storage and sent them to Chris.
Angelo tipped the drivers, and after thanking them, the two returned to the café and copied the video for the staff.
"This is footage from a dashcam. I hope you won't slander me again. If the police or anyone comes asking about this, this video is the evidence. Please make sure they see it clearly."
After Joanna finished speaking, she picked up her bag and headed home.
The staff member stood there looking embarrassed, unable to say anything.
Angelo caught up and came to Joanna's home. Rather than acting like a guest, he went straight to the fridge to find ingredients and took them to the kitchen to cook.
"Haven't eaten yet, right? Want to eat together?"
Joanna responded listlessly and collapsed on the sofa in a daze.
If she hadn't seen it with her own eyes, she really wouldn't have believed that Cynthia would hurt her own child for a man.
It was too crazy.
She suddenly felt grateful that when she learned about Cynthia's existence, she hadn't thought about fighting for Chris but had directly left that unfaithful man.
Otherwise, Cynthia's vicious tactics would probably have made her life miserable long ago.
Angelo cooked two bowls of noodles, and the taste surprisingly matched the bowl Joanna had made for him before.
Joanna was a bit surprised: "When did you learn this?"
Angelo smiled and said: "After eating the noodles you made that day, I couldn't forget the taste. But I couldn't keep coming to have you make noodles for me, right? So I practiced at home a few times. Fortunately, I have some talent and managed to recreate the flavor. Try it and see if there's anything I need to improve."
Joanna shook her head: "The taste is already very good. You really are talented - no wonder you've built such a successful business."
She wasn't good at small talk, and her mind was still shaken by the day's events, so after saying this, she fell silent.
Angelo knew she needed space to calm down, so he didn't stay longer. After finishing the meal and cleaning up, he left.
With the video evidence, the rest could be left to Peter to handle.
Even when Chris called to scold her, Joanna didn't respond.
She didn't forget to contact the servants at Hillside Villa to have the divorce certificate sent over by express mail.
When she saw the divorce certificate, her eyes immediately welled up.
The last time she had been this anxious about a certificate was for her marriage certificate with Chris. Similar covers, but completely different meanings now.
This marriage could finally come to an end.
