Chapter 115 The Child Is Gone

Chapter 115 The Child Is Gone

Innocent?

Cynthia?

Joanna thought this was the most ridiculous thing she'd heard all year.

She withdrew her expectations, her gaze turning icy: "I'll say this one last time—I didn't hurt her. If you're saying I hurt her, you should provide solid evidence! Did those witnesses at the café really see it with their own eyes? Until my lawyer arrives, I won't say another word."

With that, Joanna took a deep breath and pulled out her phone to contact Peter.

Along with Peter came Angelo.

Both had already learned what happened and immediately stood by Joanna's side upon arrival.

Peter said with a cold smile: "Mr. Cooper, I believe there's been a misunderstanding. It was Cynthia who invited Miss Jones for coffee, and Cynthia chose the location. After the incident, my client didn't flee but stayed with her during the examination and came to the hospital to wait for the medical assessment. If you have concrete evidence, please show it to me. Otherwise, this is slander."

Chris's face darkened. He hadn't expected Joanna to make this matter so complicated.

He said directly: "Once Cynthia's surgery is over, if she's willing to accept your apology, I'll treat this as if it never happened!"

Nicole wasn't having it and said loudly: "Why should we? We can't just pretend nothing happened! Joanna hurt my grandson!"

Peter's attitude became firm: "Please provide evidence before making accusations. Otherwise, this is slander, and my client has the right to sue you."

Nicole was furious: "So you're the only ones with lawyers? Chris, call Sean!"

Chris didn't comply. He just snapped irritably: "Enough! This is a hospital. Let's wait for Cynthia's test results!"

After that, neither side spoke another word.

Twenty minutes later, the doctor came out of the operating room and regretfully told them: "The baby couldn't be saved. The parents are still young—they can try again."

For some reason, Chris's first reaction to this news was relief.

But Nicole lost it, lunging at Joanna, scratching and hitting her: "This is all your fault! You bitch, give me back my grandson's life!"

Angelo immediately pushed Nicole away and shielded Joanna.

"There were many people at the scene—there must be some evidence. Joanna isn't that cruel, and she has no reason to harm Cynthia!"

Nicole shouted back: "No reason? She's jealous that Chris treats Cynthia well, and she hates that Cynthia took her man!"

Joanna wasn't the type to just be protected without fighting back. She sneered: "You know she stole my man, so I'm the victim here. That child shouldn't have existed in the first place!"

Nicole was too angry to speak.

During the standoff, the doctor wheeled out a weak, unconscious Cynthia.

Joanna silently followed behind to the hospital room door.

Chris had already arranged for his assistant Matthew to handle payment and admission. He was now contacting Cynthia's parents and more authoritative obstetrics experts.

Joanna crouched wearily on the floor, with Angelo beside her.

He understood what she was thinking and said: "You know very well you didn't do it, so there's no need to blame yourself."

Joanna shook her head: "Actually, the situation was very chaotic. I'm certain it had nothing to do with me. In fact, Cynthia seemed to be deliberately provoking me. Maybe this is the result she wanted all along."

To make Chris and Nicole resent and blame her, to make Chris feel guilty and protective toward Cynthia.

And she would become the villain, forced to apologize, forced to prove her innocence.

Angelo gently touched Joanna's face and said: "Don't be afraid. If she did it, there will always be evidence."

Joanna nodded, feeling much better.

Before long, the examination was finished and the medical staff left.

Cynthia hadn't woken up yet, but Joanna didn't plan to stay any longer.

"If there are any follow-up questions, you can contact me. But I'll also go to the café to look for evidence. When Cynthia wakes up and tells you the truth, you'll know it had nothing to do with me."

With that, she prepared to leave.

But Cynthia woke up at that moment. Her face pale, she touched her belly and looked up desperately: "Chris... our baby?"

Chris looked away, not wanting to tell Cynthia this cruel news.

But his attitude said it all.

Cynthia began sobbing in distress: "I'm sorry, I'm sorry I didn't protect our baby. It's all my fault, I didn't mean to."

Nicole was so angry her heart ached. She said furiously: "Did Joanna push you? Cynthia, tell us—if she did it, the Coopers will never let her get away with it!"

But Cynthia seemed devastated, just shaking her head and crying, not responding to the question.

Nicole grew angrier and glared at Joanna: "Didn't you say you were going to find evidence? Go ahead! If you can't find evidence, then you're responsible for Cynthia's lost child! You must give the Coopers an explanation!"

Cynthia kept her head down, calculating how to trigger Chris's guilt.

The baby was gone—that was a fact. But the wedding couldn't be affected. She had to bind Chris to marry her.

"Cynthia, you're awake now. You know best what happened. I didn't even touch you!" Joanna looked at Cynthia, wanting to hear her explanation.

But Cynthia just cried and said: "I don't know! I don't know why you hate me so much, Miss Jones. I only accidentally took your divorce certificate with Chris. I already had the maid send it over. Why did you accuse me of threatening you with such malicious assumptions? I didn't think that way. I hoped to become friends with you. After all, you're not as bad as Chris said—you're also a great doctor."

The word "doctor" reminded Chris of something.

He narrowed his eyes and said: "Did you plan this? Did you deliberately hurt Cynthia and cause the miscarriage?"

Joanna laughed coldly: "What would I gain from that? Why would I do such a thing?"

Nicole couldn't wait to shout: "Revenge! You're taking revenge on Cynthia, revenge on the Coopers! Joanna, you have such a cruel heart. That was an innocent child—you couldn't stand his existence? I'm going to sue you. Harming an unborn fetus is a crime!"

Joanna had no energy to argue further and simply turned around: "I'll find evidence to prove that what happened had nothing to do with me. Nicole, you'd better hope those people who told you I caused Cynthia to lose her baby can testify in court and take legal responsibility for their words!"
