Chapter 115 Chapter 39.1
Chapter 115 Chapter 39.1
HEAVEN'S POV
I frowned as I looked at Anica. She couldn't even meet my eyes. Did something happen that they weren't telling me?
“Repeat what you just said, Anica,” I ordered. She bit her lower lip and lowered her head.
“I’m sorry, Heaven. We thought Desmond had already gone to see you last night after he found out about Daryl. He was at the house last night, I don't know what Mom and Dad talked about with him. We arrived with Daryl. He heard me call Daryl's name. We didn't know Desmond was at the house. We didn't answer any of his questions. Then his parents suddenly arrived. They called Daryl, and when Daryl heard his grandma's voice, he climbed down from my arms and went to Aunt Shiermy. We don't know what happened after that because Aunt Shiermy took Desmond home with her so they could talk there. I think Desmond already found out that Daryl is alive and that we hid him from him,” Anica explained. My lips slowly parted. Was that the reason why he didn't call me last night and why I hadn't received any of his messages?
If he already knew, then why didn't he come to see me?
“Why are you only telling me this now? You should've called me last night and told me what happened.” I couldn't stop myself from getting angry at my sister. She lowered her head even more.
“I’m sorry, Heaven. I thought Desmond had already gone to see you after he found out Daryl was alive. I didn't know he had disappeared.” I rubbed my forehead in frustration. How was I supposed to find him now when his phone was turned off?
Is he mad at me? I was planning to tell him tomorrow. I let out a deep sigh. Was it better that he found out earlier before our date tomorrow? What if he got angry at me while we were in the middle of our date?
“Can't you contact him? Didn't he go to work today?” Anica asked.
I shook my head. I wondered where he could be. Was it possible that Mommy Shiermy knew where he was?
“I should get going. We have to head back to our branch. I'm sorry again, Heaven. We never meant to ruin your plan.” I simply nodded because there was nothing else I could do. What was Desmond doing at our house last night? What did he say to my parents?
I rubbed my temples once again. Where was I supposed to find him now?
I picked up my phone and tried calling Desmond's number again, but it was still unreachable. I stood up from my seat and headed to Mommy Shiermy's office. She looked slightly surprised when she saw me.
“Mom, do you know where Desmond is?” I asked her directly.
“Didn't he go to work today?”
“No, Mom, Jake didn't tell me anything either. Desmond only told Jake that he wouldn't be coming to work today, but he didn't say why. I've been calling Desmond since last night, Mom, but I can't reach him. His phone was still ringing last night, but this morning and until now, it's been unreachable. I'm worried, Mom. What happened last night?” I asked.
“I’m sorry, Heaven. I didn't know Desmond was at your parents' house last night. We had no choice but to tell him the truth. We told him everything. Didn't he come to see you last night?” I shook my head because Desmond never came to see me. I hadn't even received a single call or message from him.
“Try going to his penthouse, dear. Maybe he just doesn't want to come to work because he was shocked by everything he found out last night.” I nodded, said goodbye to Mommy Shiermy, and left. I decided to leave my work at the office because I wouldn't be able to focus anyway with Desmond constantly on my mind.
I drove straight to his penthouse. I just hoped he was there. I only hoped he hadn't gone somewhere else because if he wasn't at his penthouse, I had no idea where else to look for him. Wasn't he happy to know that our son was alive? This wasn't the reaction I had expected from him. I thought that once our relationship was finally fixed and he found out our son was alive, he would be happy, but that wasn't what happened. It seemed like he was angry because we had hidden Daryl from him.
My grip on the steering wheel tightened. I was ready to explain everything to him. I wished he had just come to me and talked to me instead of disappearing like this. I didn't even know where to look for him.
I could only stare at the floor numbers above the elevator because it felt like it was taking forever to reach Desmond's floor. As soon as the elevator doors opened, I quickly stepped out and went straight to Desmond's room.
I would understand if he was angry with me, but I wished he had just talked to me. Did he really think everything would be okay if he just disappeared and hid from me?
“Desmond, are you there?!” I kept knocking on his door because it was locked. I didn't know the password.
“Desmond, please open this door if you're inside!” I shouted loudly, pressing my ear against the door, hoping I might hear something. I knocked again and winced because my knuckles were already hurting.
“Desmond, please answer me!” I shouted again, but no matter how loudly I called for him, there was no response. I couldn't hear a single sound from inside either. Wasn't he here?
I let out another sigh. Where could he have gone? Where was I supposed to look for him? I didn't even know if there were places he usually went to.
I stayed outside his penthouse for several more minutes, hoping the door would suddenly open once he no longer heard any noise outside. But several minutes passed, and it still didn't open. If that was the case, then he really wasn't here.
I slowly walked back toward the elevator. I couldn't think of a single place where he might have gone. Why did he have to leave? He could've just talked to me, and I would've explained everything. All he was doing was making me worry. Where was he?
I couldn't stop myself from getting irritated. He could've just talked to me, but instead, he chose to disappear.
I slumped over my steering wheel as soon as I got back into my car. I tried calling him one more time, but it was still the same, his phone was still unreachable.
